Kuroo's Not Too Scientific Definition of Love

Summary:

As mentioned, Kuroo is a science geek. He knows science like it was the back of his hand and he believes in it like a religion. However, one thing that science has failed to elaborate is love. Neither science nor Kuroo could plausibly define the transcendent word.

Or

Some KuroKen Christmas fluff for the single (or not too single) souls.

Work Text:

"Kenma!" A voice booms out from the other side of the clothing store. The staff glared at the black haired man, who was also the source of the ruckus.

"What Kuro?" The shorter guy with overgrown roots ducked from behind a mannequin wearing a designer tuxedo, a bored look presented on his facade.

"Do you think Boku-bro would like this tie?" Kuro, as the other had referred to, inquired whilst holding an elegant tie which literally screamed 'classy'.

Kenma sighed and shook his head in disapproval as he made a beeline for his boyfriend. "Don't you think it's too formal for him?", he said as his eyes darted around the store seeking for a better attire for the aforementioned 'Boku-bro'.

"Maybe he would like that tie clip better." Kenma indicated towards the case displaying tie clips, specifically at the one with a tiny owl with gems as eyes.

Kuroo's eyes lit up in surprise as though he hit the jackpot. He scrambled over the case (of course, while tugging his unfortunate companion along).

What are the two doing in a high-end clothing store you may be wondering? Well, it's beginning to look a lot like Christmas as the snow has covered their homely town in a fine blanket and since Kuroo had to change their duvet to an extra thick one. The now official couple were eagerly (though Kuroo expresses it prominently) finding gifts for their loved ones to spread the love on a chilly winter day.

After endless shops, they settled in this fancier one which was much to Kuroo's preference and totally within Kenma's budget, to search for some presents for their highschool rivals which also happens to be their best friends, Akaashi Keiji and Bokuto Kōtarō.

"Okay Kenma, have you found something for Akaashi-kun?" After finally managing to choose a gift for the grey haired owl, Kuroo shifted his attention towards his petit boyfriend who was tying his hair in a bun.

Kenma has always been breath-taking, but in Kuroo's perspective, he has always been the loveliest when he was tying his faux blond hair. He had this adorable scrunch on his nose as his fingers maneuvered with the strands of hair with practiced ease. And Kuroo swears with his life that those eyes that look up to him in the midst of the process will be the death of him one day.

"Mhm." Kenma hums with the elastic still between his lips as he gestured towards the cashier where a sophisticated coat was lying, waiting to be purchased.

The both made their way to the counter and quickly paid for their goods before heading out in the harsh winter weather once again. Fortunately they both wore multiple layers of clothing and Kenma had already slipped his right hand in the pocket of Kuroo's jacket, so if I were to judge, they seemed fairly unaffected by the frigid temperature.

Their following stop was a more casual apparels brand, though the price didn't necessary waver too much from the latter. Upon entering, Kenma shoved his bag towards Kuroo and practically disappearing deep between the rows of clothing.

Kuroo was definitely no stranger to this behavior. It may have been foreign at first but after years of being beside his partner and bestest friend, he had accustomed to it just fine. Kenma always was enthusiastic when it came to Hinata Shōyō from Miyagi. Their friendship evolved as the years passed by and Kuroo really ought to thank Hinata more for being able to bring out the pleasantly eager part of his boyfriend.

Not long after, they both finish their little spree. Having bought a few more gifts for both of their parents and buddies, they were now respectively holding a cup of hot chocolate as they made their way towards the station.

Kenma pulled his scarf upwards to cover the blushing tip of his nose (which is clearly because of the cold and not at all because of the handsome hunk who constantly held his hand despite being pre-occupied with the bags).

The evening streaks of golden sun rays strived to engulf the couple in a warm embrace. But Kuroo knew for a fact, he needn't depend on the humongous star to bring him the snuggly feeling. For Kenma being close to him was more than enough (it might as well make the frail attempts of sunlight pale in comparison, but Kuroo knows science by heart and as much as he hates to admit it, it was impossible to overpower the sun in this facet).

"I think we got great gifts Kuro." Kenma spoke from under his scarf, his voice was kinda muffled but it was clearly audible to Kuroo who had always perked up his ear whenever a sound emerged from the younger.

"I think so too Kenma." He agreed. He knew that the tie clip for Bokuto was a great idea, the coat was totally suitable for Akaashi, the shorts were perfect for Hinata, the jewelries were going to be adored by their parents, the hair gel would be essential for Lev, vanilla scented candles were going to make Yaku tear up and the rest of the gifts would fit their friends.

But Kuroo couldn't help but let his mind think of how the ring engraved with both of their initials neatly placed in a red velvety box in one of the higher compartments at home would look absolutely dazzling on Kenma's finger.

As mentioned, Kuroo is a science geek. He knows science like it was the back of his hand and he believes in it like a religion. However, one thing that science has failed to elaborate is love. Neither science nor Kuroo could plausibly define the transcendent word.

But Kuroo is certain that the endless butterflies that wreck havoc in his tummy whenever he's with Kenma is love, the fact that he wants to devote the rest of his life alongside Kenma is love. And boy was he in love with Kenma.
