Chapter Text

Prologue

The sun shines crisply through the windows of South Park High School, the weather uncharacteristically pleasant for a late December morning in Colorado. An eighteen-year-old Kenny McCormick bursts through the double doors, hands extended like he’s blessing a bread basket as he saunters down the hallway. All around him, students are gathered in their friend circles, chatting happily amongst themselves, knowing that in just seven short hours, they’ll be free to enjoy their much-deserved Christmas break.

Kenny beams as he strolls over to his locker, passing by South Park’s version of the Grinch along the way, Craig Tucker, who is hunched over his locker, the dark bags under his eyes telling a sad story of their own. Whistling a festive, cheery tune, Kenny dials his locker combination and swings the door open, nearly knocking himself off his feet in the process. Rolling his eyes at Kenny’s antics, Craig quickly turns away from the calamity, pretending to scroll through his phone.

Laughing a bit to himself at his own clumsiness, Kenny attempts to shake it off before returning to the task at hand. Suddenly, he leans his head back, eyeing a bright red sheet of paper neatly folded in the very center of his locker shelves, a mini spotlight seemingly shining on it from above. Kenny scans the area, furrowing his eyebrow suspiciously, before carefully grabbing the note, inspecting it like it's a piece of fruit – even going so far as to pick it up and sniff it a few times for good measure.

“Goddammit!” Craig cries, the expletive immediately catching Kenny’s attention. He whips his head up, flashing a sympathetic gaze in Craig’s direction, then stares back down at the note – the mysterious sheet of paper seemingly calling out to him. In his heart, he knows what he should do, but he feels like he’s being pulled in two different directions.

Should he read the note or help out his friend?

What should Kenny do?
