Sooo hot…
The sands burned with integrity with every step as they snuck into his already overheated shoes, stride swaying with the golden sea moving underneath his careless gait.
The Gerudo desert was as unpredictable as it was unforgiving, the heat taking a turn for the deadly after Link decided to go searching for some delicious voltfruit. His Vai outfit did well to keep him cool in the extreme conditions of the desert, but only to a certain extent, usually knowing better and bringing some elixir if worse was to come.
That wasn't the case this time, thinking his mission would be short enough to not merit wasting precious materials on another heat-resistance potion, but after getting distracted by some buried treasure did he realize the mistake in his planning.
He panted under the Vai mask, folding it up on its side so it wouldn't get stuck to his already dried up lips. The last hydromelon snack he ate seeming further away the longer he ambled on, vision getting wavier with the strands of the sun. His clothing was so caked in dust that his whole body cracked like a dried up leaf.
I'm so dead, I'm gonna dieeee! His mind whined out to himself in a highly dramaticized drawl, barely capable of staring at the shaky distant visage of Gerudo Town, feeling hopeless at just how far away it really was. It was one of the worst situations to be in, seeing a paradise right in front of him only to be stopped by the simple roadblock of mileage. If only there was another way to get there quickly…
He blinked, sand falling down across his face from his caked lashes. Is that what I think it is? Scrunching his head forward, a sudden burst of energy filled him with momentum. It's a sand seal! Even just a wild sand seal would be enough to get him to town in a jiffy!
His feet picked up the pace, changing his dawdling walk to a proud jog, hope spreading across his face as a smile fitted with his joy. With a swift swipe and shield at the nine, Link happily skipped to the seal, hands ready to grab at the tail and start his trip back.
Finally, I'm not dead! Get ready sand seal, here I come!
The Guards of Gerudo Town have the unique opportunity to deal with a wide variety of strange happenings, especially at the front gate. Dorrah and Merina had to deal with the recurrence of lingering Voe Hylians, overly curious monsters, wall-scalers, and even stopping drunk Gerudo from wandering out to their demise. Many more things to count upon, and their days were always busy. However, nothing could have prepared them for what came next.
A typical day, another disappointed Hylian Voe sitting up against the wall of the city, whom they eventually took pity on and gave some water. It was a silent desert Noon besides that, getting ready to change shifts by the hour before something peculiar caught their attention.
In the stark bright distance, a trail of dust plumed back with the little breeze, coming closer with every second. The two guards prepared themselves, spears at the ready as they looked off vertically to the city. It got further along, both of them tightening their grips on the weapon, the Voe peering out from under the tarp at the highlighted obstacle.
Bewilderment was the only thing expressed after the entity got close enough, spotting what was really making the ruckus. A Hylian Vai, screaming within every breath of her life, all the while holding on to the tail of an Electric Lizalfos with a grip only comparable to Captain Teake's arm wrestling. The metal shield under her feet screeched as loudly as the Lizalfos, who appeared just as confused as the rest of them.
After they grew an uncomfortable distance to the front entrance, the shield snagged on to a stone, causing the Vai to faceplant into the sands below while the Lizalfos sprung free, hugging at its tail for dear life while it waddled away from its captor and spouted curses.
The small audience watched as the Vai slowly lifted herself out of the sand, looking back to the Lizalfos who just had a particularly poor experience. It had been a rough day for the both of them.
