Work Text:
Aizawa’s right arm was dead from a certain someone sleeping on it all night. He woke with a groan amidst the mountain of pillows Hizashi insisted on keeping on their bed, looking over at his stupidly handsome husband.
A smile formed on his face as he watched Hizashi’s chest rise and fall, early morning light filtering through the pale curtains. Their room was cozy and warm even in the cold of winter, and for that Aizawa was grateful.
The book Aizawa had fallen asleep reading lay on the ground next to the bed, pages splayed and slightly crushed. He gasped and painstakingly extricated his arm from beneath the blond, then picked up the novel, carefully unfolding the creases and placing it on his bedside table. He couldn’t bear to see a book with bent or dog-eared pages, it was a pet peeve that he regarded highly.
The door to their room creaked open and Eri’s small face appeared in the crack. Aizawa smiled warmly, an invitation for her to come over. She had a small stack of presents in her arms and gently put them on the bed next to her adoptive father.
“Santa came!” she whispered to him.
“Do you want to open your presents now?” Aizawa asked, checking the time. It was barely seven, she must have been too excited to wait any longer. She nodded enthusiastically.
“How about you go and wake up your brother and then we’ll open them together?”
“Okay!” Eri replied before running out the door to Shinsou’s room.
Aizawa turned on his side to Hizashi, softly rubbing his shoulder until he woke. His husband stirred and blinked his eyes open. He beamed at the sight of the love of his life, picking up his hearing aids from the small table and putting them on before greeting Aizawa.
“Good morning, honey!” he leaned over and pulled Aizawa partially onto him in a hug.
“Eri wants to open her Christmas presents with us,” he said. “I told her to grab Shinsou as well.”
“Ooh I hope she likes the things I chose!” Hizashi exclaimed.
“Shh! They’re from Santa, not us, remember,” Aizawa laughed, putting a finger to Hizashi’s lips to shush him. He was in a particularly good mood this morning. “We’ll give them the ones from us later.”
Shuffling was heard from the hallway and Eri waltzed in, dragging Shinsou by the hand. He was laden with presents as well.
“I see you’ve found your gifts from Santa!” Hizashi grinned.
“Aren’t I a bit old for Santa?” Shinsou grimaced, putting the stack on the bed next to Eri’s.
Aizawa gave him a stern stare, pointedly looking at Eri. “Santa is a very generous person.”
Eri jumped onto the bed next to Hizashi, patting the spot next to her. Shinsou complied, sitting at the foot of the king sized mattress beside one of the many cats living in their household.
“Which one do you want to open first?” Hizashi asked Eri, and she picked up a small lumpy package in colourful wrapping.
“This one.”
“Good choice!” Remarked Hizashi as she tenderly unwrapped it, careful not to rip the paper. Inside was a tiny figurine of Present Mic, complete with shiny glasses.
“Look, it’s you papa!” Eri giggled.
Aizawa turned to Hizashi and murmured in his ear. “I thought we agreed to get her suitable presents for a young child.”
“It’s basically the same as any other doll,” the blond whispered back smugly.
“Your turn, Shinsou!” Eri announced. Her timid nature had vanished somewhat as she had grown more accustomed to her new family, and it made Aizawa very proud.
Shinsou begrudgingly tore open one of his presents from ‘Santa’ and revealed the sequel to a book he’d read recently and loved. A miniscule gasp escaped him despite himself, and he beamed at Aizawa, who he was certain had picked it out.
“Thank you.”
“Don’t you mean ‘thanks Santa’?” Hazashi chuckled.
“Yes. Thank you Santa,” Shinsou rectified as Eri giggled again.
The pair opened the rest of their presents, Shinsou receiving several more books as well as a suspicious box telling him to open it later. Eri was overjoyed about all of her gifts and profusely hugged her parents, Shinsou (who reluctantly accepted them), and the cats lounging around the room.
“Did you feed the cats this morning?” Hizashi asked Aizawa as one of them meowed loudly in his face.
“No, I’ll go do that now.”
Shinsou stood up and picked up the tabby. “I can feed them.”
“Oh, okay. Thanks, Shinsou,” Aizawa said, mildly confused.
The purple haired boy left, taking the kitten with him and calling to the other ones who went running along behind him, eager for their breakfast. Eri followed him, scooping up the unwrapped toys in her dress and telling her parents that she was going to play with her new gifts. Hizashi pecked Aizawa on the forehead, snuggling down into the blankets.
“We should probably get up too,” Aizawa murmured.
“Mmm soon. I’ll make pancakes for breakfast with lots of berries like Eri likes,” Hizashi mumbled in reply. He nuzzled further into Aizawa’s bare chest, kissing at the scars scattered upon it.
“Okay, time to get up,” Aizawa stated as Hizashi migrated farther down.
He slipped into a plain black v neck and sweatpants and Hizashi put on an obnoxiously colourful christmas sweater that he and Eri had picked out. It was bright pink with text that read ‘Meowy Catmas’ above a picture of a kitten wearing a Santa hat. Aizawa only pretended to hate it.
The pair walked down the hall towards the kitchen / living room. As they neared the doorway Aizawa groaned and Hizashi turned to look at him.
“What is it?” he asked.
Aizawa pointed to a sprig of mistletoe hung above the door frame.
“Which child did this?” The dark haired man sighed, exasperatedly.
“Ten bucks on Eri!” Hizashi laughed.
“She can’t reach that high,” Aizawa commented.
“She could have used a chair!
“That is true.”
Hizashi stepped underneath the mistletoe and gestured to his husband. “Join me?”
Aizawa walked over to him and embraced the taller man, letting Hizashi kiss him on the mouth. They stayed like that for a few seconds before separating with a smile. Aizawa turned to see Eri staring eyes wide at her parents. Shinsou was next to her, rolling his eyes.
“Who put this up?” Aizawa demanded, fighting back the blush spreading over his cheeks and pointing at the mistletoe.
“Shinsou did!” Eri said, bubbly as ever.
Shinsou shrugged, not bothering to explain any further. Aizawa would be sure to inquire about his intentions later.
“Eri! Want to help me make pancakes?” Hizashi called from the kitchen, where he had begun to get out eggs and milk.
“Yeah!” She skipped over and put on the tiny apron Hizashi handed to her, skillfully tying it over her Christmas-themed dress.
Shinsou bid them farewell and left to his room where Eri complained that he spent all of his time. “He’s just a teenager,” Aizawa would say, while Hizashi always said he was “off to text that adorable boy of his!”
As his husband and daughter started to cook the pancake batter, Aizawa went to Shinsou’s room to interrogate him about the mistletoe. It wasn’t like he minded, it just seemed rather out of character for him.
He knocked on the door which had a small collection of Pikachu stickers stuck to it (courtesy of Shinsou’s boyfriend of several months), and awaited a response before entering.
With Shinsou’s permission he opened the door and found the purple haired boy curled up with the marmalade coloured cat they had adopted recently, reading one of the books that ‘Santa’ had given to him. Aizawa sat on the bed next to him, leaving plenty of room between them (they were both particular about their personal space, which worked well).
“What was your motive with the mistletoe? Hizashi was thrilled,” the pro hero questioned, straight to the point.
“It was a dare from Denki,” Shinsou replied, nonchalantly.
Aizawa let out a bark of laughter, of course the loud blonds in his life shared similar romantic-borderline-corny ideas. “Speaking of, have you opened that last box yet?”
“This?” Shinsou picked up the object in question from the other side of his bed. “No, not yet, should I?”
Aizawa shrugged and Shinsou raised an eyebrow. He decided to open it anyway, pulling off the lid. Once he saw what was inside he threw the box and its contents across his bed, furious blush on his cheeks. His dad laughed at the reaction, as Shinsou spluttered.
“Why the hell are you giving me condoms for a Christmas present?” He groaned and covered his face with a pillow. “I thought Denki wasn’t allowed to come over today since you said it was a family day?”
“He is definitely not coming over today. I just need you to promise me you’re going to be safe - I warned you that dating a loud blond was a mistake,” Aizawa stressed.
“You obviously don’t think it’s a mistake,” Shinsou mumbled, recovering from his shock.
“And you obviously take after me,” Aizawa retorted.
Shinsou groaned again, hiding his face. “Can we please not talk about this? I promise to not get him pregnant or let him impregnate me.”
Aizawa snorted at the sarcastic response. “Just make sure you’re careful. Look, I think Denki’s a great kid and he’s good for you, but I know how horny you teens are - I teach a whole class of them. You know, when Mic and I were young-”
“Please stop talking.”
“Good call.”
Hizashi called them for breakfast after a while, Eri looking very proud at the meal she had helped prepare. Shinsou and Aizawa sat down at the table, marvelling at the vast collection of condiments - maple syrup and berries as far as the eye could see.
“This looks delicious, thank you Eri,” Aizawa commented.
“And me!” Hizashi corrected.
“Yes, I know, honey,” Aizawa sighed. “So childish - this is one of the many problems with blonds,” he whispered to Shinsou. Shinsou snorted a little despite himself.
As they were tucking in, Eri got up and ran off to her room.
“She’s gone to collect the cards she made us,” Shinsou explained. “I had to help her figure out how to spell ‘Merry Christmas’.”
When she returned, she gave each person a card in turn. After they had each received one, she sat back down, waiting expectantly.
Aizawa opened his, admiring the picture she’d drawn of him standing next to Hizashi, Shinsou, and her, as well as the cats they owned plus a few extras that Aizawa was ninety percent sure they didn’t have. Inside the card it read ‘Merry Chrismas Dad I love you frome Eri’. Aizawa almost teared up, the hit and miss spelling making it ten times cuter.
Hizashi’s card was similar (though the word ‘christmas’ had been spelled correctly this time), and Shinsou’s featured a clumsily drawn Denki next to the picture of her purple haired adoptive brother.
Shinsou discreetly took a photo and sent it to his boyfriend, whose immediate reply was a series of flames and starry eyed emojis, with the words ‘can eri make me one?? :D she’s the next da vinci i swear’. Shinsou smiled.
“Denks loves your art, Eri. Do you think you could make one for him?” he queried.
Eri nodded enthusiastically. “Mhmm!”
After the pancakes were demolished, she set about drawing a picture of Denki and Shinsou holding hands. “Just like Dad and Papa!”
Aizawa had to bite back tears a second time. She was seriously too precious for this world.
Hizashi insisted on a family photo using a new camera that Aizawa and Shinsou had bought for him (they were originally going to buy some new radio equipment, but decided they needed to convince him to take high quality photos of their many cats to frame so instead chose the camera), and later managed to endure his non-stop Christmas music - not to mention the slightly off-key singing which Aizawa was annoyingly fond of.
After Eri went to bed later that night, Shinsou attempted to sit through one of Hizashi’s favourite cheesy Christmas rom coms, but left eventually in favour of texting Denki.
“He opened the box - you should have seen his face,” Aizawa chuckled quietly.
“Denki is a good kid, I’m glad to have him as a future son-in-law!” Hizashi remarked, recalling the first time they met when Denki accidentally asked for his blessing and Shinsou’s hand in marriage after gushing about how lucky he was to have their son as his boyfriend.
“Just because he’s basically a miniature version of you,” snorted Aizawa.
“You really can’t escape loud blonds can you?”
“Tell me about it.”
