Work Text:

If there was one thing Kaeya was good at, it was definitely annoying Diluc to death.

As it was, the two were sat in front of their shared apartment's fireplace and giving each other's Christmas gifts. The crackling fire giving off a warm glow to light up the living room. The messily decorated Christmas tree ("it's ugly", "I'd prefer to call it avant garde, Diluc", "I feel like it's glaring at me") next to the fireplace added a festive feel to the place. The pile of boxes and wrapping paper accumulating on the floor though was beginning to get on the redhead's nerves.

When the couple had exchanged Christmas gifts a while ago, Kaeya went ahead and gone first to give Diluc his present. The glaringly huge box next to the Christmas tree was handed to Diluc with a proudly smug smile. Diluc accepted it with a raised brow and set it down the floor to unwrap. It wasn't as heavy as Diluc had expected and it didn't make any rattling sound inside to indicate what it was. He was fairly curious as to what the other had gotten for him for it to be this size. He unwrapped the box and opened the lid, peeking inside only to find another wrapped box a tad smaller than the last.

Diluc sighed and leveled Kaeya with an unimpressed look. "Seriously, Kaeya?"

Kaeya, unbothered by the look, merely hummed happily and encouraged Diluc to continue opening it. "I promise, there's something inside, sunshine. Just gotta be patient," he said as he sat down in front of Diluc to watch him open his present.

Diluc let out a groan but complied anyway and that was how they found themselves about 10 boxes in and a mountain of wrapping paper after. The box was about a foot in height now and as was probably Diluc's patience.

"I swear, Kaeya if this is just gonna end up as a prank," Diluc starts as he moves to sit down on the couch with the gift box on his lap to unwrap yet again.

Kaeya lays his chin on his fist as he continues to watch Diluc from where he's sat on the floor. Why he thought this would be a good idea, he forgot from how much he's started to get nervous as the box in Diluc's hands becomes smaller and smaller. Honestly, it was nerve wracking to have to sit there and wait for Diluc to finally get to the last piece. He seriously found his stupidity astounding at times. The ruby encrusted ring seeming to feel heavy on his quickly sweating palm.

Kaeya merely gives a mischievous chuckle as a response to cover his nerves and prepares himself as Diluc nears the last box only about a couple inches in size this time. He watches Diluc open it and the look of surprise and emotion on his face made Kaeya remember why he had done this in the first place.

Diluc stares at the red velvet ring box in shock and awe.

"Kaeya, is this-" He murmurs as he gently takes the box on his hands, not once looking up at Kaeya, too overwhelmed with emotion as he keeps his eyes on the box. He slowly opens it, excitement mixed with nerves, only to find the box empty.

Confusion colors his face making way for annoyance. "Kaeya, you-" Diluc starts as he snaps his head up to look at Kaeya with an irritated expression on his face, only for the rug to be pulled from under him once again.

In front of him, was Kaeya down in one knee with a gorgeous ruby ring held towards Diluc.

Diluc wasn't able to hold back the choked gasp that escaped his mouth as he stared at the man in front of him.

"Sorry for teasing you, love. You know I can never help it," Kaeya says, his face so utterly fond and his eyes focused entirely on Diluc alone. The hand clutching the ring shakes as he takes in a breath to calm himself despite his teasing. "Anyways, I reckon this is the part I profess my undying love for you, huh? Don’t worry I prepared a speech," Kaeya chuckles.

Diluc lets out a genuine laugh despite the cheesiness of everything and decides to play along. "Well, go on with it then."

"Right," Kaeya smiles as he clears his throat. He goes and takes a hold of Diluc's hand and brings it up his lips for a gentle sweet kiss. He then looks up and clutches their hands together. "Diluc, you have been warm hugs in dark and sleepless nights since I was a boy easily scared of everything unfamiliar. You've been laughter in warm summer days spent running around in unbearable heat. You've been acceptance when I felt like the whole world was against me. Most importantly, you've been comfort whenever I've missed the thought of home, but soon I've come to realized that home was whenever I am with you. I have been in love with you for as long as I remember, Diluc Ragnvindr," Kaeya says as he lets go of Diluc's hand to gently brush away the tears threatening to fall from the redhead's eyes. He softly caresses Diluc's cheeks and looks him in the eye as he finally pops the question.

"Marry me?"

Diluc lets out a full on sob as he tackles Kaeya down to the floor. Kaeya falls back with an oof and feels Diluc cling to him as the redhead clutches his shirt and buries his face on his chest. Everything Kaeya just said left Diluc an emotional mess, it was all he could do to let out a yes and not get overwhelmed. He quickly wipes his teary eyes and holds out his hand to Kaeya.

Kaeya scrambles for the ring and honestly it was a miracle how he was still able to hold onto it when Diluc all but threw himself at him. He places the ring on Diluc's finger and is glad to find it fit perfectly.

Diluc holds out his hand in wonder as a smile makes its way on his face. "It's beautiful," he sniffs out.

"Thought it would match your eyes," Kaeya says as he sits them both up and places Diluc on his lap, encircling Diluc's waist with his arms.

Diluc cups Kaeya's face with both his hands and gives him a soft sweet kiss. "Thank you. I love you," he whispers as he rests his forehead on Kaeya's.

"I can't believe you'd still find a way to be annoying while proposing though," he says after a beat of silence, glaring at all the boxes and wrapping paper surrounding them.

"Well, you know me," Kaeya laughs as he kisses down Diluc's neck. "Don't worry, I'll put them on recycling later, I promise. But for now can I get my present?" Kaeya asks suggestively as the hands on Diluc's waist slide further down to his ass to grip on the mounds of flesh.

Diluc raises a brow and smirks. "Sure, let me go get it," he says teasingly as he makes a move to get the neatly wrapped present under the tree. He barely makes it out of Kaeya's lap before he's being pulled down by a strong grip on his hips.

Kaeya whines as he settles Diluc firmly on his lap. "Darling, don't be cruel. Don't you think I deserve a little reward for giving you the best proposal of your life?"

"Don't get ahead of yourself," Diluc says with an eyeroll and just as Kaeya starts to complain, he shuts him up with a kiss. "But I guess it is worth giving you a little something," Diluc says as he smiles and goes to slowly unbotton his shirt, purposefully making a show for Kaeya. "You can do anything you want tonight, Sir Kaeya," he leans in and whispers into Kaeya's ear.

"Oh sunshine, I love you," Kaeya declares as he excitedly stands up and takes Diluc up with him. The readhead automatically wrapping his legs around Kaeya's middle as he lets himself be carried to their bedroom. He starts to hold onto Kaeya's shoulders when light reflects off the ruby on his finger. This catches Diluc's attention as he marvels at the way the diamond shines on his hand.

He honestly can't wait for the wedding.
