Work Text:

Crosshair was warm and comfortable. Snuggled in the nest under the pile of warm, heavy blankets he and Tech had collected over the summer. This was their first Autumn on Morut and it quickly became everyone’s favourite season. Don’t get them wrong they liked all the seasons the planet had to offer, but the changing colours had been a magical experience the Vode had never seen before.

Someone gently called his name and patted his shoulder, Crosshair blinked sleepily while coming out of his happy sleep. He could actually say he had ‘happy sleep’ from time to time. Crosshair smiled when Tech’s face came into focus “is everything alright Cyar’ika?” Crosshair’s body told him it was still really early, if Tech was awake something must be wrong.

Tech looked wide awake, showered and was fully dressed “yes. Everything is fine darling, I was hoping you would join me on a little walk this morning” Tech’s eyes were hopeful yet held an understanding if the answer was ‘No.’ Crosshair stretched his arms and sat up “what time is it? I couldn’t have over slept” granted the Batch had some down time, their last hunt having paid out beautifully, but they still worried and were unsure about relaxing all day. No matter how many times they had been told it was fine. All of them had to be doing SOMETHING.

Tech chewed on his bottom lip “it’s an hour before sunrise. I would like for you to join me in watching it. I understand if you don’t want to but I would love for you to see it.” His voice held the type of confidence that Tech had when he was planning a project or overseeing upgrades or maintenance on the Marauder, he knew what he wanted to do but was still a little unsure about how to get there quickly. Crosshair wasn’t a morning person, the nest was perfectly warm and safe. The temperature just right. But. Something tugged at him and all he could do was nod “sure. Yeah, I’ll join you. Do you know the best place to watch it?”

Crosshair stood and stretched some more. He knew Tech had started going out for early morning walks as a way to help clear his head after a nightmare, so it was possible he had found the perfect spot. Tech smiled “I have and it’s not too far from here. I believe you will like it, I’ll wait for you downstairs.” He disappeared through the door while Crosshair dressed. It was going to be cold outside so he pulled on the thickest clothing he owned.

He wasn’t sure why he’d agreed, Tech hadn’t forced him to go. Crosshair just needed to go, he felt Feral stirring slightly. The wild part of himself was also excited for this {he will be so happy. He wants to show you something special. He wants to share this with you.} Crosshair knew he was lucky that he and his Feral got along so well, if anything Feral encouraged Crosshair to step out of his comfort zone.

Once he was dressed Crosshair headed downstairs and met Tech in the communal living area, he was wrapped up warm and carried a bag on his shoulder. Tech linked his hand with Crosshair’s and led him outside. The very early morning chill hit them both immediately, but it wasn’t at all unpleasant. It was a dry chill that stung the eyes slightly yet it helped clear the last of the sleep cobwebs.

The homestead was quiet as they headed towards the east gate, there wasn’t any wind and the sky was completely clear of clouds. It was a dark blue blanket of stars. There had been far too much light pollution on Coruscant so the stars had never been visible and you had to be extra lucky to get a clear night on Kamino for star gazing.

Tech led the way towards the mountain range a short distance away, a neatly laid path pointed towards the Wolfpack’s Den. Crosshair was surprised by how far Tech climbed, more lights from the main city (now named Mereel Plaza) came into view the higher they went. Tech had clearly thought out his view point and the one thing Crosshair would forever appreciate was a good vantage point.

The walk had helped warm them both, so by the time Tech stopped walking the chilly air wasn’t much of a problem. Tech pulled a couple of blankets from his bag and laid one on the rocky outcrop, he sat down and waited for Crosshair to join him “you come up here often?” Crosshair asked as he settled behind Tech and let his husband lean back against him. Tech nodded “After a particularly bad nightmare I just needed to keep moving, I walked wherever I could. I found my way here after...what must have been a few hours. My adrenaline had started to wear off so I just sat and watched the view, when the sun started to rise...Well you’ll see.”

Tech covered them with the second blanket, Crosshair had to admit it was nice to be away from the house for a bit. The fact they had a home was still foreign to them, being out on the Marauder was what the Batch knew. Leaving Kamino for the first time had been exciting yet terrifying, they got to travel the galaxy but never really experience it. They got to work with more of their brothers but not all of them had been accepting of the Batch.

After an incident that involved eight troopers of the 501st cornering Tech in the hanger, an incident that ended in all eight of those troopers having multiple broken bones and organ damage, both Cody and Rex had been very firm with the men of the 501st. The 212th had never been an issue as they had quite a few omegas in their ranks so were naturally protective, the 501st were a more difficult lot as they only had three omegas. Rex had been extremely firm with his men about keeping their hands to themselves after some of them had tried to get ‘handsy’ with Kix.

Note: Do NOT mess with someone who knows how the body works and can snap things with minimal force.

Tech hadn’t said much about what happened in the hanger but Cody and Rex had a gut feeling. The fact one of the troopers injured had his penis pointing at an angle it shouldn’t have been, was a tell tale sign of what was about to happen back there.

Having a safe place to rest in was a luxury the Batch were still adjusting too. Maybe watching a sunrise was a good starting point to really get settled in, something different from what they knew. To see what their home planet had to offer.

They talked quietly while waiting for the sunrise, the small lights from the various Homesteads dotted the valley and hillsides. It was amazing to see, the soft golden glows not disturbing the surrounding areas. Set apart from the rest was Howzer’s tiny home, just a couple of small lights showing where it stood. Crosshair worried about the older omega living alone. Well he did have his medical droid Jax, so he wasn’t completely alone but still...

“Look on the horizon” Tech suddenly whispered. Crosshair looked up and saw a very faint flash of pink just starting to peek from the horizon line. Everything seemed to get quieter for a moment even though there hadn’t been any noise at all, then the sound of a bird singing drifted along the quiet valley. As the sky brightened more birds started to sing, more of the wildlife began to emerge from their sleep.

Crosshair brought his arms tighter around Tech’s waist and rested his chin on Tech’s shoulder, ‘this is nice’ he thought ‘I wouldn’t mind doing this more often.’ The colours changed, the first sliver of gold appeared as the sun rose, the dark blue of the sky became lighter. Mixed with various shades of pink, yellow and white the sky before them didn’t look real ‘it’s too beautiful’ Crosshair thought, he had only seen things like this in pictures.

As the valley brightened below Crosshair watched as all the colours came to life. Velvety reds, soft yellows, deep golds and lavender shades, a patchwork that covered the valley, hillsides and mountain ranges. It made for some truly romantic memories. The homestead looked wonderful from up here, the large lake that ran through the centre had a thin layer of ice over the surface and the grass was pale with early morning frost. Crosshair blessed his eye sight at times like these.

Shifting so he could see Tech’s face Crosshair felt his breath hitch slightly. His husband was relaxed, his eyes flicking from the rising sun to the valley. The light brought out the warmth of Tech’s brown eyes and highlighted the copper undertones of his hair, there was a glow on his skin that matched perfectly with the contented smile on his lips. Crosshair couldn’t help himself, the kiss was tender and deep. They cuddled close so the kiss wouldn’t be broken too quickly, Feral was happy {told you so. Tech wanted you here with him. He’s happy. Kiss him more.}
Crosshair rolled his eyes, it wasn’t missed by Tech “what’s wrong?”

“Feral. He’s happy to see this so he’s a little eager” Crosshair watched the blush appear on Tech’s cheeks, “what has he said?”

“That I should kiss you more. That it’s nice to see you happy. Thank you for showing me this, I never would have come up here alone.”

Tech smiled brightly and nuzzled Crosshair’s cheek lovingly, a soft purr vibrated his chest “I would love to share this with you more Cyare. Seeing you like this...It’s magical. As for the extra kissing, shall we appease our dear Feral?”

Crosshair smirked and brought his lips closer to Tech’s again “that sounds like a brilliant idea. Wouldn’t want him to feel left out now do we.” Crosshair gently laid Tech back on the blanket and settled over him, they unbuttoned their coats so they could get closer ‘we’ll do this again with less clothing later’ Crosshair thought cheekily as he and Tech kissed each other senseless.

After a while they settled to watch the sun, curled together with the blanket over them. Tech ran his hand over Crosshair’s hair and tickled the back of his neck with his finger tips “I love you Cyare.”
Crosshair purred happily and snuggled his head into Tech’s shoulder “I love you too darling. Every part of you.”

Notes:

Feral is Crosshair’s feral side. They get along well unlike Hunter and his Alpha. Feral is pretty chill unless provoked, he gives Crosshair advice and loves Tech just as much.

He is a separate personality but a good one.

I am planning a longer fic but can't get it to work yet so I'll just do shorter ones like this for now.

Thank you.
