The train rattled as it zoomed along the tracks, Ranboo’s voice emitted from Tommy’s phone. The blonde knew he was saying something, but couldn’t calm his nerves down enough to focus on what he was saying. Something about… birds?
“Hey, Tommy, you okay?” Ranboo asked, sounding vaguely concerned for his boyfriend.
“Yeah, just a bit nervous. It’ll be our first meetup since we started dating, that's all.” Tommy replied, playing with the hem of his hoodie.
Sighing, Ranboo swears he could hear Tommy’s heart beating loud and fast in his chest, “You'll be here soon, it’ll be okay. I’m gonna go, ‘cause you’re almost here. See you soon, Tommy.”
As he hung up, a woman’s voice came over the intercom.
"Next Stop: Brighton"
The train slowed to a halt, and the door hissed open. He stood after letting the few middle aged people on his carriage out first. Tommy then stepped onto the platform to look out for a particular someone.
Ranboo waved him over, pulling him into a tight hug. “Glad to have you back.” he spoke softly, against the blonde curls.
As he stepped back from the embrace, Tommy realised he still didn’t know what their plan was, “So… what are we doing?” he asked, hoping Ranboo had thought that far ahead.
“You'll see," the taller grinned, already leading tommy further from the platform, and towards Tubbo's dad, who was waiting in his car.
“Good to see you again, Tom.” He smiled, hands taking the wheel as the pair slid into the back seats. They drove away from the train station, into town, then down a familiar road, to Tubbos house.
When the car was parked, Tubbo's dad unlocked the door for them, and then they parted ways. Ranboo and Tommy both hurried upstairs into the extension. When their race ended, Tommy then tackled Tubbo into a hug.
“Oh- Jesus Christ, Tommy! You scared me!” Tubbo's voice shook with surprise. “I’m streaming, by the way.”
Ranboo went to pat Tubbo's shoulder to get his attention. “Well, Tommy and I have some stuff to do out of the house. We’ll see ya' later, bye!”
Soon, Tommy found himself walking down the sunny streets of Brighton, his hand enveloped in Ranboo's. They passed shops filled with clothes, food, and a whole load of other kinds of knick knacks, and all of them were overflowing with life.
While Tommy wanted to stop and wander the colourful and lively storefronts, Ranboo had clear intentions to find one store in particular. They happened across a bakery tucked away from the main street, a quaint little building with flower beds out the front, filled with chrysanthemums, daisies, and hydrangeas.
The inside of said store was just as charming, the walls lined with plants and vines, it even had a display of cakes and tarts with different magnets attached. Greeting them at the register was an older woman, say 50 or 60, in a green apron.
“Hi, what can I do for you two today?” She asked, her eyes crinkling with a smile.
Tommy looked to Ranboo, who was briefly scanning the display cabinet of pastries. “I'll have two of the smiley face biscuits, thanks."
They left the shop £6 poorer and two biscuits richer with Ranboo carrying them in a brown paper bag. After running down a back alley, it seemed that the early evening sun had begun to dip below the horizon. Most shops were shutting up, but Tommy knew of a hidden gem open ‘til late.
“Okay, okay- Ranboo, this is going to be epic." he announced, moving his hands around in a dramatic fashion. The games around then were classics like MarioKart , DanceDanceRevolution , and Pac-Man ..
Flashing colours and electric sound effects bounced between them, going from game to game for about 2 hours or so, they only realised how long it had been when the sun had truly set, letting the night take over.
“C'mon Tommy, just over here!” Ranboo called back to Tommy, who was a bit behind. He was showing the blonde to a more secluded part of the beach he’d found during his stay in the UK. While there might not have been any beach goers at that time of night, they still didn’t want to risk any fan taking a sneaky photo of them like this together.
The side of the beach Ranboo had found really was hidden, but it was so worth it. Tommy let himself sink into the rockless sand after the long day out and felt the sand between his toes. He shut his eyes and let himself rest, just for a minute.
Ranboo let himself indulge in the sight of Tommy’s eyelids fluttering shut, his perfectly curly hair now sprawled out in the sand. “Get up Tommy, I've got a picnic blanket.”
“Oh my god. Ranboo, you are the definition of a sap. You look up the word pathetic and your picture is right next to it. UrbanDictionary, sappy boyfriend, it's got your name written all over it.” Tommy rambled on and on to combat the heat creeping on his cheeks.
Ranboo leant in for a kiss, but before their lips met, he smiled and whispered against Tommy’s cheeks. “Yeah, you love it,” and then kissed him underneath the night sky.
They both barely fit on the fairly large blanket, but laying on their back, gazing up at the stars, they felt so small against the universe.
