“Wake up my little dreamy meow meow. It's seven in the morning-“ The prerecorded voice of Clay’s boyfriend - who was lying unconscious, though some may argue dead, next to the aforementioned man in their queen sized bed - played loudly through the blonde’s phone audio. Though the dark-haired brunette had recorded the audio as a joke, the taller had made it his alarm for everything.
A groan vibrated in the throat of the tall floridian as he tried to shuffle his way out of the shared bed, arms held tightly in the other's hands and around his torso. “Sapnap, I need to get up.” He complained with a scratch in his voice, the other shuffling and pulling him closer. “Sapnap, it's Christmas Eve, come on. My family is coming over soon, I need to clean the house up.”
Another shuffle was heard and felt before he was finally released from the death grip the shorter had on him. Clay sat up and stretched, hearing small cracks from his back. He stepped into bland, blue and white-striped pyjama pants - remaining shirtless. He walked around the bed, leaving a small kiss on his boyfriend's forehead with a smile before leaving the room quietly.
Morning sunlight - that had been dimmed by the frosty winter weather - shone through each window, the air cool and his breath’s warm. Clay shivered as he walked through the house, shoulders and chest freezing - yet he did not go back to place a shirt upon himself. Instead, he started to grab two glasses, turning the handle of the tap for cold water to start running through it and into the glass cups held underneath.
Clay started to clean the dirty cups and plates from the living room table and kitchen sink, knowing his mother would scold him if she knew that he left everything around the house. He took the occasional sip from his glass, leaving the one he made for his boyfriend untouched.
Quiet footsteps shuffled from behind him, arms covered in a warm and fluffy Christmas sweater wrapping around the blonde's torso, and a stubble-kissed face resting on his shoulder.
“Good morning.” Clay teased with a smile almost too close to a smirk, earning a tired grumble in return. He turned in the arms to face his brown-haired boyfriend, wrapping his own limbs around the other. “My mom called. Everyone’s gonna be here at twelve.” He informed, glancing at the digital clock displayed on their microwave - 10:56. The short silence held tension - unwanted tension, at that. The taller rested his head atop Sapnap’s, mouth opening to ask the question they both wanted to say. “Are we gonna tell them about us?”
‘Maybe’ they both silently agreed.
Clay wasn’t out to his parents - he had quickly learned that it wasn’t as easy as just saying “yeah, I’m bisexual but like guys more.” He needed to have a conversation about this, but he wasn’t sure if they would listen.
They had already set up excuses about why they were sharing a room weeks earlier, the stress of outing themselves eating them alive.
The warm silence was broken by a loud cuckoo cuckoo from their cuckoo clock - which abruptly went off every hour. “I should probably get a shirt on before I catch a cold.” Clay breathed out a laugh.
“Yeah, dumbass.” Sapnap chuckled as he pulled away from the hug.
“Kiss first.” Clay wrapped his arms around Nick again, leaning down slightly to rest his forehead on the other’s.
“Okay.” They shared a short sweet kiss, the meaning of ‘I love you so much,’ being received by the both of them.
As they pulled away, they shared a loving smile. The blonde did go upstairs and get a shirt on himself, though it was rushed and his shirt was put on backwards as he tried to get down for more hugs and kisses before his family was there.
-
“Merry Christmas!” Clay greeted as his whole extended family stood at the front door of him and Sapnap’s two story home. His mother had brought over a large Christmas Ham, ready to be feasted on. He held back a laugh as he saw Sapnap almost drool at the sight.
His younger sister flipped him off before locking herself in the downstairs bedroom, My Chemical Romance heard through the walls. Clay chuckled with a sigh. He shared a small fist bump with his older brother and a ‘hello’ to his wife, yelping in surprise as his nephew latched onto his legs.
“Uncey Cway!” He cheered with a lisp, Clay lifting him up and holding him in his arms, greeting the rest of his mother and father. Sapnap greeted all of them after the blonde, sharing ‘hello’s’ and shaking hands with a toothy smile.
As everyone entered the house, Clay caught a glimpse of Sapnap laughing to himself about the countless times the blonde had been asked about a girlfriend. He sighed, closing the door and putting his nephew back on the floor, resting his head on Sapnap’s shoulder as the six-year-old ran off to the rest of his family.
“I wanna tell them…” He confessed, holding the shorter closer. “I’m just scared.”
“I know.”
Lively classic Christmas music floated through the house - even with it only being Christmas Eve - in an attempt to get everyone into the holiday spirit. All of the bags that his family had brought over layed on the carpet in the middle of the living room, couch and bench either side of the pile. “Sapnap and I will- uh, share my room so you don't have to sleep on the couch.” Clay explained, rubbing the back of his neck nervously, please don’t know, please don't know-
“Ah, alright.” His mother said - not even a hint of suspicion in her voice. Clay almost let out a sigh of relief at the unknowing woman. He watched his family recollect their bags and carry them upstairs, leaving the worried couple alone in the now silent room.
They hurried over to each other to share a short and sweet kiss before sitting on their comfortable couch, leaning on one another - just as footsteps were heard coming from the wooden stairs.
-
As the night became quieter and quieter - more and more people leaving to go to their beds - the room was left with just the couple once more. Sapnap yawned, resting his head on Clay’s shoulder, eyes focused on the movie.
Sapnap never failed to make Clay's heart flutter and pound in his ears - with every little thing he would do, Clay would fall in love more and more. He was falling in a well of passion, falling deeper and deeper. He let it happen. He wanted to keep falling forever.
The blonde carefully leaned forward to a mug he had previously filled with hot tea.
“Sap, wanna get some hot cocoa?” He suggested, seeing as his mug had become empty. He heard a small ‘mhm’ before the two of them got up from the cushion-y and soft couch - beginning to make their way to the kitchen.
As they walked through the open doorway, Clay took a small glance at the clock - just as he did earlier in the day. 23:49. A small tug on Clay's shirt beckoned him to stop, looking down at the brunette - who was pointing upwards. His eyes followed the direction of the finger, seeing a small bit of green leaf and red berry hung on the ceiling.
“Oh no, I guess we have to kiss now, how awful for us,” Sapnap exaggerated, earning an airy chuckle from the blonde. He sneakily moved his hand to be around the shorter’s torso before he leaned down, connecting their lips softly - yet still passionately. A warm and gentle hum of happiness emitted from the back of Clay's mind, cheeks becoming red as he gladly took the breath of his loved one.
The two heard small shuffling but paid no mind to it - the noise going in one ear and out the other. Their kisses were not short lived, time seemingly having disappeared. Clay felt high on love and he cherished every second of it.
He loved this man so much.
The two pulled away with love-drunken smiles and fond glints in their eyes.
They loved each other so much.
-
The family gathered around the large dining table, taking a seat each. Warm waffles, chocolate pudding and other Christmas foods - that Clay's mother had woken especially early to make from scratch - sat atop the table.
Clay grabbed a few things off the table, filling his plate with an array of foods - managing to keep his hand on Sapnap’s thigh in a loving manner.
“Uncey Cway?” His nephew called from the other side of the table.
“Yes, Daniel?” He inquired.
“Why were you and Snapwap kithing last night?” Clay flushed at the mention, instinctively looking to the brunette beside him - seeing an equally frightened face to the one he felt he held.
“Uhm..” He tried to start, the words not being able to leave his tongue. They know, he just said it in front of everyone, they know, they know, they know-
His frantic and worried thoughts were softened and became quiet as a warm hand was felt on his shoulder. He focused only on his boyfriend's face. He was smiling, a short nod showing what he meant. The blonde took a breath of refreshing winter air, turning back to his small nephew.
“Well, Sapnap and I are..” he hesitated, feeling all eyes in the room on him. Was he really doing this now, during Christmas breakfast? All his family was here, and he was coming out. A rush of adrenaline pushed the words out of his mouth. “Dating. We’re dating.”
The room fell into a deafening silence, the clattering of forks and plates and the chatter and laughs of family members no longer. A comforting hand stayed on his shoulder, with a quick and gentle squeeze accompanying it, keeping him from falling deeper into the pit of fear.
“Oh, that’s lovely, dear!” His mother smiled, looking over warmly at the couple. “How long have you two been together?”
They… they’re okay with it… Tears pricked his eyes, a stupid smile spreading on his face. A few tears fell, Sapnap now keeping a warm hand on his back. “Uhm, w-we’ve been together for almost a year now.” He informed her with a smile while rubbing the tears from his eyes.
-
Christmas ended quickly, the presents Clay and Sapnap had gotten and given each other still in the living room. Everyone had packed up, saying goodbye to each other in the entrance of the house.
“Goodbye, sweety, I’ll make sure to come and visit you two soon.” His mother hugged him, pulling back and going to hug the unsuspecting brunette. “And, if this wasn’t already clear, you’re always welcome in the family. I hope to see you at our New Years get together.” Clay smiled as Sapnap teared up and hugged back.
“Goodbye Uncey Cway and Uncey Snapwap.” His nephew waved, holding a stuffie that resembled a rabbit. Sapnap visibly melted at the name, waving back to the six-year-old.
The house became quiet as everyone left.
A final click of the door being shut by Clay indicated it was finally just him and Sapnap. Christmas was somehow better than the two had anticipated. Clay turned to Sapnap with a relieved sigh, seeing him staring at the taller with intense love shining in his eyes.
“What?” Clay asked with a smile, walking forwards and resting a hand on the stubbly cheek of the other.
“Nothing, I’m just really fucking proud of you.”
Clay flushed and tensed, admiration shining from his own green eyes as he rested his head on the other's shoulder - hiding his face in his boyfriend's neck, flustered. The two wrapped their arms around one another, holding each other close.
“I love you so much, idiot.”
“I love you too, dumbass.”
This was a good Christmas.
