Work Text:

In all honesty, Jeongin is not a fan of skinship and everyone knows it.

Even Hyunjin - especially Hyunjin - knows that.

But as Jeongin's boyfriend, Hyunjin does have some special privileges. They do what's considered 'normal couple things', they're just not overly sweet and clingy like Felix and Jisung - even though Jeongin is quite sure that if given the opportunity, Hyunjin would be just like his two friends.

After all, Hyunjin is extremely affectionate and shows it mostly through physical intimacy.

So Jeongin is now questioning himself just why he can't sleep. Of course he knows the answer to that question, in fact, he knew the answer before even thinking about it, but he's so stubborn that he doesn't want to give in by admitting to himself - and not anyone else per se, just himself - that he misses the warmth that embraces him every night but that's missing right now.

Hyunjin is away for the first time - since they moved in together two years ago - due to work. He's gone away to Japan for almost a week, holding an exhibition with his latest art pieces, and Jeongin would be proud - which he is - if he wasn't so restless.

Restless because he, the person who doesn't like skinship, misses his boyfriend's arms wrapped around his waist and soft hair tickling his neck softly.

Fuck.

It's ridiculous because every night Jeongin makes sure to playfully complain about how Hyunjin is squeezing the life out of him and now he's missing it. Jeongin even feels his eyes twitch and his hands shake, oh God, he's experiencing withdrawal.

For a moment, he considers sending Hyunjin a message. They've already texted quickly and said their goodnights as Hyunjin was extremely tired of running around the gallery to see if everything was primer and proper - Hyunjin just being himself, the perfectionist that he is.

Hyunjin is probably asleep and Jeongin thinks for a minute longer and gives up. He's not going to let Hyunjin tease him about missing his boyfriend too much, Jeongin would not hear the end of it.

He settles for closing his eyes and trying his best not to think about anything.

It results in a very bad night of sleep. Even all cozy due to all the blankets he rolled himself into to pretend that Hyunjin's holding him, Jeongin wakes up as if he had taken a short- and very bad - nap.

He doesn't have actual work today - all the kids are on recess already - but he still has to go to the kindergarten for two more days in order to plan in advance his classes for when everything resumes after the end of the year festivities.

The moment he steps foot in the teacher's lounge, he's greeted by Jisung - his coworker and long time friend.

"You look like shit this morning," Jisung says and Jeongin shoots him a glare. "Bad night?"

"Didn't sleep that well," Jeongin replies, not really paying attention to his words and what it entails. He sometimes forgets Jisung is also friends with Hyunjin.

He misses the way Jisung looks at him, all smug.

"Missing Hyune's cuddles?" Jisung asks and Jeongin huffs but doesn't reply to the teasing.

Jisung takes the hint and doesn't bother his friend for the rest of the day. They still chat like usual but Jeongin is just glad that he doesn't bring that up again - he'd hate to have Hyunjin find out through Jisung, of all people, that he misses him.

Just as Jeongin expected, sadly, he keeps on sleeping terribly.

The warmth of being wrapped around too many blankets is not the same as being lovingly embraced by his boyfriend. Jeongin feels stupid but tells himself that it's normal to feel like this when he's been so used to having Hyunjin cuddle him to sleep for the past two years - even more if he considers that back in university they'd take turns staying over at either Jeongin's or Hyunjin's dorm room and would rarely sleep alone after a few months since they started dating.

On the fourth day, he nearly loses his mind.

He's not going to work anymore at this point, Christmas is too close already and everyone else is making plans with family and friends. Jisung even invited Jeongin to go over to his place so he wouldn't be alone but he declined it, Hyunjin's supposed to come home soon - Jeongin is not sure what time though - and he wouldn't want to be the third wheel on Jisung and Felix's celebrations.

Although, he's so lost that he forgets it is actually Christmas Eve, loses track of time and spends the whole day on the couch, marathoning a series he had paused due to the lack of time he had for it.

Halfway through it he falls asleep, too tired as he had slept so badly lately, and the sound of the door clicking open and then shut goes unnoticed.

He's woken up by a heavy weight being thrown on top of himself. Jeongin almost screams, thinking that someone's trying to kill him until he sees Hyunjin's smiling face right in front of him.

"Hi," Hyunjin whispers, burying his face on Jeongin's neck. "I missed you."

Jeongin takes a few seconds to wake up fully but when he does, he wraps his arms around Hyunjin and hugs him, earning a yelp from his boyfriend.

"Oh my God," Hyunjin exclaims and raises his head up again so he can stare at Jeongin. "You just hugged me."

"I always hug you," Jeongin replies, faking annoyance.

"I know but you did it so willingly, I didn't even have to ask," Hyunjin jokes, Jeongin is too used to having his distaste for skinship being a teasing matter at this point and doesn't think too much about it. "Have you survived without me here?"

Jeongin grunts when Hyunjin pushes against his stomach to get up, combing his hair with his fingers in the process and reaching out for his luggage that is right next to the couch.

"Barely," Jeongin mumbles and decides to tell the truth, if asked. He thinks Hyunjin deserves to be reassured that he was missed dearly.

"Have you not been eating well?" Hyunjin questions with hands on his hips, forgetting about the luggage that he was going to take to their room.

"I have been eating properly, thank you very much," Jeongin replies and laughs when he sees the confused expression on Hyunjin's pretty face. "What I mean is that I haven't been sleeping that well."

Hyunjin pursues his lips and widens his eyes in surprise when he finally understands what Jeongin is trying to say, without actually admitting to it.

"You've missed me?" he points a finger to himself and even blushes. "I mean, of course you've missed me but you've missed the cuddles?"

Jeongin rolls his eyes.

"How about you take a shower and I'll heat up what I had earlier," he groans and rubs his eyes. "I know it's Christmas Eve but I haven't prepared anything special."

Hyunjin skips all the way to Jeongin who's already settling things in the kitchen and throws his arms around his boyfriend.

"You missed me and my cuddles," he says delighted and presses a kiss to Jeongin's cheek. "All I wanna do after we have dinner is cuddle you so you can sleep properly, as you deserve."

He skips all the way to the bathroom and misses the flustered look on Jeongin's face.

As he heats up the galbitang Minho has given him earlier when he passed by to check up on Jeongin - bless him -, Jeongin thinks about the reservation he had made on their favorite restaurant at the beginning of the week so they'd be able to have dinner together at a nice place tomorrow on Christmas day, also as a celebration for Hyunjin's first successful exhibition overseas - but that's a surprise and Hyunjin will only hear a word of it tomorrow after lunch.

Hyunjin quickly joins him back in the kitchen and tells him all about his week.

That night, Jeongin sleeps soundly. Hyunjin's arms wrapped tight around him and lips brushing against his collarbone.

Jeongin doesn't like skinship but he's always willing to make exceptions when it comes to Hyunjin.
