Chapter 1: Ruins

Summary:

"You're not really human, are you?"

Chapter Text

The Ruins were quiet and dusty. That fact on its own wouldn’t be anything out of the ordinary for hardly anybody lived here, and therefore nobody cared to clean. However, in the context of this human child killing everything with their tough-looking branch, it felt sinister. Their blue-and-pink t-shirt, once a bright pastel color, had now been covered in dust as if they had dropped a whole bag of flour on themself. They looked entirely desaturated.

Now deeper into the Ruins, they marched past that puzzle with the cracked floor and into the room with several rocks. Three Moldsmal burbled quietly, sitting on the other side of the spiked bridge. They couldn’t actually see the child approaching, but when they sensed the kid’s SOUL approach, they reflexively withdrew into themselves. The child didn’t even bother doing the puzzle. They leapt across the span of water and killed the trio with precision.

Countless monsters down, one more to go.

They find their next victim quickly - a Whimsun child hyperventilating in the farthest corner of the room.

The human approached with the intention to be silent, yet their heavy footsteps begged to differ. Loud, careless shuffles prompted whines and garbled sentences from the Whimsun, which seemed to form a type of apology, or maybe a plea for mercy.

Smells like a panic attack.

The human child offered no such solace.

~

The old lady’s home was quiet and neat. That fact on its own wouldn’t be anything out of the ordinary, for the old lady lived alone and had too much time on her hands, However, in the context of a despaired mother leading a stray child into her empty house, it felt heartwarming. Parental, even. The lady rushed off to check on the pie that spent too long in the oven, leaving the child to invaded the once-adored bedroom. The human crawled under the bedsheets and rested their weary body. The poor thing, exhausted from committing such egregious acts. Have a little sympathy.

The kind old lady offered them food, shelter, and love.
The old lady filled their SOUL with LOVE.

Memories of a loving family fills you with dread.

The child saves their progress and moves on.
