Who Was Really The Phantom?

Summary:

What if someone we knew was The Phantom?

Notes:

Work Text:

The Phantom felt Metis' blood cover his hands. He laughed; it was becoming too easy to get away with murder after murder. He heard the door start to open; that wasn't supposed to happen. No one was supposed to be there. He made sure. He quickly opened a window and jumped through it. He couldn't be seen.

He had developed extreme paranoia from the incident. Of course, his friend, Apollo Justice, had noticed.

Apollo couldn't just stand around anymore. He had to do something. "Are you alright?"

He smiled. "Of course, Apollo, I'm always okay." Apollo didn't believe it, but there wasn't much he could do about it.

He cursed at himself later that he was starting to unravel in front of someone. He couldn't have his act fall apart.

It had been years since he had killed someone, and he was feeling that urge to rip apart someone's family. Take away someone they loved, just like what had happened to him with his mother.

He felt the detective's blood cover him. Why did he get such a rush from such a horrible action? He dumped the body into a local river and quickly took on the man's identity.

This game of his was starting to get a bit confusing. Pretending to be a detective one minute and then be a middle school or high school student the next.

Apollo noticed a sudden shift in his friend. "Dude, are you okay?" He placed a hand on his shoulder. "I know you haven't been the same since she died, but suddenly you've changed a lot."

He smiled at the boy in red. "I'm fine, Apollo. Just have been off is all." Apollo let it go. He shouldn't have. There was nothing he could do, though.

Part of Apollo had forgotten about his friend's paranoid behavior until he saw detective Fulbright do some of the same movements. Odd, he would have to ask Clay later if he had ever been around the man before.

Once Clay had died, the trial was going just fine, poking holes in testimony, but then one of the forensic investigators burst the court door open. "The body has disappeared." That was when Apollo connected the dots.

The paranoid behavior.

The kind of people The Phantom killed.

Clay and Bobby never being in the same room.

Clay was The Phantom.
