Rhythm of My Heartbeat

Summary:

On almost every occasion, songs are always there. It brings excitement to the most boring events, it calms us down in the drunkening times of midnight. Although, to some, it’s just the only or perhaps one of the only things they could ever do with their life that gives them meaning. It gives them a purpose. These people are musicians.

Even if that's the case, some may still be finding a reason for their music to exist in the first place. This is how it is for I'VE, a well-known band in Fleur Clematis Highschool living off covering songs for the entirety of their highschool life.

Chapter Text

A series of muffled noises were audible from outside the backstage. The cheers, yells, and all sorts of sounds played but were muted by a dark cloth that divided the two sides of the platform. There was a performance going on causing the roars of the crowd.

As it continued, the only people to be seen prepping for the next were four students.

One of them had long blonde hair with bangs covering up her eyebrows fidgeting her fingers out of anxiety. The one sitting right next to her who had her hair clipped at the back, slapping random notes on her bass with sass, one who simulated the crash of cymbals and the bangs of the tom-toms, and another who seemed the shortest among them with tuning each string of her dark red electric guitar. All of them wore an identical red jersey jacket with an "i" embroidered on the right side of their chest.

And just before they all stopped doing their warm-ups, another girl arrived and exhaled from running through the corridors of the school. She radiated a charismatic aura that made each of them turn to her direction immediately ready to listen to her every word.

“This is it. We're next. Are you all ready to perform?” She said.

“W-What if they’re suddenly surprised and suddenly don’t like the song?”

“Shhh, they did ask for this didn’t they?”

“I don’t care whether 90-percent of the crowd hates the song.”

“At least, we did our best to make a change in our ways.”

“Yeah. That's exactly the point.”

I don't care whether everyone hates this song.

Right after, all the high volume sounds outside the curtains were slowly put to a halt, as soon as they heard static from a microphone. They could all feel like their heartbeats were rising, their sweat trickling all over their faces, but despite all of that, one of them smiled.

I left those thoughts.

“And for the grand finale of all the performances, the one Fleur Clematis High has been waiting for…"

I thought proving myself to them was all that matters.

When they heard the announcer speak, all five of them took one step at a time waiting for their name to be called.

“I'VE!”

Then, they walked to the front of the stage standing in their designated positions ready to perform. With their leader in the frontline, she tapped on the mic checking whether it was in a functional state.

She looked back at her members signaling them to do something as she gestured her hands. On the last hand movement, they understood the assignment.

"One, two, three…"

"Hello everyone we're IVE!" The bright spotlights focused on them drawing all the attention to them. This was it. This was what they prepared for over the weeks. Different thoughts of fear and excitement ran through their minds waiting for their drummer to strike both wooden sticks in her hands.

But it turns out, I was wrong.

In a count of three of their human cue card, a sequence of notes played to start off their intro. It was time.

Because to be honest, this melody is just for you.
