Seokjin smiles fondly when more texts come through, Jimin being whiny and pouty. He can hear his adorable boyfriend sulking and Seokjin feels his heart squeezes. He misses Jimin a lot. It’s been about 3 weeks since Jimin flew across the sea for work. Seokjin misses the way Jimin hugs and kisses him. The younger always insists on being the bigger spoon and he can’t go a day without nibbling on Seokjin’s lips for 30 minutes a couple times, making Seokjin blush and a little dazed. Seokjin thinks about the way Jimn’s eyes crinkle when he is so happy. He laughs with his whole body, lighting up the surrounding with the twinkle in his voice. Jimin is not the best at cooking, but Seokjin knows he secretly calls Seokjin’s mother to help him prepare the elder’s favorite meal.

Seokjin misses him. A lot.

He is startled by the sudden blast of ringtone coming from the phone in his grip. Jimin’s sleepy face appears on the screen and Seokjin grins. He swipes the green button and brings the phone to his ear.

“Hello?”

“Hyung! What happened? Are you okay? You read my texts but you weren’t responding, I got worried!”

Seokjin winces. “Sorry, got lost in my thoughts, Jimin-ah.”

Jimin hums. It seems like he is in a meeting room or something because it sounds a little busy. Seokjin glances at the clock. It’s almost lunch hour for Jimin.

“You just got out of meeting, love?” Seokjin asks, laying down in the bed. He grabs Jimin’s pillow and brings it to his chest, sniffing. Jimin’s berries scent from his shampoo is almost gone and Seokjin pouts a little.

“Yeah, we just got out of meeting. I’m on my way to lunch now,” Jimin answers. It’s quiet for a few seconds and Seokjin listens as Jimin climbs into a cab and talks to the driver in Deutsch. He doesn’t understand a word but Jimin must be asking the driver to drive him to a restaurant or something. “Sorry, hyung. Okay, we can talk now. How are you, love?”

Seokjin lets out a breath, eyes closing. “I’m doing okay, baby. Just finished eating dinner. Hobi and Tae dropped by this evening, so I think I’m gonna go to bed a bit earlier tonight,” he says in a quiet voice, a little sleepy. “I miss you a lot, Jimin-ah.”

“Hyung, I miss you a lot, too. I love you. I really want to hug you,” Jimin mutters. Pouty.

Seokjin’s heart flutters. It never gets old. They have been together for 4 years, and Jimin still makes Seokjin all mushy and soft.

“I love you, too. Love you so much,” Seokjin whispers back. “When will you come back?” he asks.

When Jimin remains quiet, Seokjin’s stomach sours a little.

“I’m really sorry, hyung.”

Normally, Seokjin doesn’t take it too hard when Jimin lets him know that his business trip will be taking a longer time than it is supposed to. But, their anniversary is coming up in less than a week. Seokjin really wants to spend their fourth anniversary together. They never missed any of their anniversaries before.

The added fatigue from the day makes the tears roll down his face. Seokjin hides his face and holds the phone away from him, trying to cry quietly. He hears Jimin calls for him from the other end of the line and composes himself.

“Yeah, sorry. I heard you. It’s okay, I understand,” Seokjin speaks softly.

Jimin makes a noise. “Are you crying?”

“No,” the older denies, but the way his vision turns blurry and his throat closing proves otherwise. “Yes,” he admits, voice quiet and sad. “I miss you a lot, Minnie. It’s been almost a month and our anniversary is soon, and I just- I don’t know, I really want you here.” Seokjin’s voice breaks, tears still rolling down his face.

“I am truly sorry, hyung. I will ask the director if we can end our business trip earlier. Hyung, please don’t cry. I don’t like you crying,” Jimin says with a wet voice, trying his best to hold his emotions together.

Seokjin grabs tissues from the nightstand and blows his nose, shaking his head. “It’s fine, Jimin-ah. I understand. I think I’m a little tired the past few days so I’m a little emotional tonight. Sorry,” he mutters. “Don’t worry, it’s just one anniversary. We can celebrate it together when you come back. Okay?”

“Hyung…”

“Jimin-ah, I’m really tired. We can talk again when you are free and I wake up later.”

“Okay,” Jimin whispers, defeated.

“Eat well, love. I love you.”

“I love you. I’m really sorry, hyung. I really want to be there with you for our anniversary.”

“I know,” Seokjin says. “Bye, love.”

“Talk to you later, hyung.”

Click!

Seokjin turns off his phone and shoves it under the pillow. The tears start to roll down his face again and he lets it happen. He misses Jimin but he can blame no one. It’s going to be a whole month without his boyfriend and Seokjin hates it.

He blows his nose again and throws the tissues at the trash can next to the desk on the opposite of the bed. It lands outside of the trash can and Seokjin rolls his eyes, annoyed. Seokjin switches off the light and lays down again with Jimin’s pillow between his arms. He will talk to Jimin tomorrow when he feels less sad. Seokjin hopes he doesn’t cry when he buys anniversary gift for Jimin. Even though they won’t be able to celebrate together, that doesn’t mean he can’t still get something special for his lover.

Seokjin sniffs loudly in the quiet room and lets himself falls into a deep slumber.

“Jimin won’t be back until the end of the month,” Seokjin tells Yoongi.

They are sitting at a table near the window in a restaurant, waiting for their food to arrive. It is still too early to be drinking but Seokjin downs the beer in the small cup at once. Yoongi looks unamused but Seokjin ignores him. He’s sad, he’s allowed to wallow in self-pity. At least, for a little bit.

“I know. He called me this morning, because a certain someone had his phone switched off,” Yoongi says sarcastically.

Seokjin pouts and frowns. “I forgot to charge it last night,” he lies.

“You are lying but I’m going to ignore because you are being annoying.”

The older huffs and kicks Yoongi’s shin, the younger groans and giving him a sharp glare. Seokjin makes a face, mocking him and leans back in his chair.

“You know he doesn’t want to stay there longer than he should, right?” Yoongi asks.

See, Seokjin knows that. He knows it really well. Jimin doesn’t even like going on business trips, he said it once. Jimin said he likes being with Seokjin all the time, he doesn’t mind if his job has to be done from home. Seokjin, being a novelist, is always at home, typing away at his laptop. They know Jimin makes more than Seokjin does but Jimin never underestimates Seokjin’s job. The both of them respects and appreciates each other. When Seokjin is nearing deadline or editing his manuscript, Jimin supports him quietly. He gently reminds him to eat, offers snacks or drinks, ensures him to take a break because he has been sitting in the office room for far too long. And cooks for him when Seokjin finally comes out of the room. They take care of each other whenever one of them is too busy. Jimin works as a Marketing Manager which requires him to travel a lot. The company opened a new branch in Germany at the beginning of the year and since then Jimin had been traveling to Germany every few months.

This time, however, he has been to the other country for almost a month. Usually, the longest he had to stay in Germany was three weeks. Not to mention he will be missing their anniversary. Seokjin understands he is busy but that doesn’t mean he isn’t allowed to be upset.

“Of course I know. If I don’t, we won’t even be celebrating our fourth anniversary soon,” Seokjin grumbles.

“Hyung, come on.”

Seokjin groans, rolling his eyes and relents. “Fine, I will call him when I go home later. Happy?”

Yoongi squints his eyes. “Promise?”

“Yes, you fucker,” the older mutters quietly.

Yoongi gives a smug grin and grabs his phone. Seokjin sighs and grabs the glass of water instead of beer. He looks around mindlessly, eyes landing on the few couples sitting near their table. It’s been awhile since he went out on a date with Jimin. He’s still glancing around when Yoongi tell him he’s going to the bathroom. Seokjin nods, letting him know he will wait for him if their food comes.

Not even a minute after Yoongi left, his phone rings. Seokjin frowns and clicks his tongue. He grabs it and answers the call.

“Hello?”

“Hyung.”

It’s Jimin. Seokjin blinks, brings the phone away from his ear and looks at the screen. It is Jimin. Huh.

“Hyung?” He hears faintly.

“Ah, yeah. Yes, Jimin-ah. Hi,” Seokjin blurts.

“You switched off your phone,” Jimin sulks. He must be pouting.

Seokjin scrunches his nose. He doesn’t know what to say. “Yeah.”

“Are you really mad at me? Hyung, I’m really sorry.”

Seokjin rubs at his forehead. “Love, it’s okay. I understand. I am just a little upset, but not at you. I did switch off my phone but I forgot to turn it back on when I woke up today. I am really not mad at you, Minnie.”

“Promise?”

“Promise.”

The older can hear the smile, causing him to smile along. His heart squeezes, he loves Jimin more than he can say. Only God knows.

“Isn’t it 7 in the morning there?” Seokjin asks, getting relaxed and comfortable for the first time today.

A muffled eung! comes from Jimin. He must be brushing his teeth. “I’m going to the office around 9 later. Are you waiting for your food, love?”

Seokjin squints his eyes, even though he knows the younger can’t see him. “You were texting Yoongi, weren’t you? You planned this with him, huh?”

“Well,” Jimin snickers, “I didn’t get to talk to you properly last night and your phone is off when I tried to call as soon as I woke up. Yoongi hyung is willing to be kicked by you just to help me.”

Aside from Jimin, Seokjin is really glad to have his friends. They are annoying and a pain in the ass, always meddling with their love life, but they are also the ones who are always ready to be at their worst and best.

Like at this moment. Seems like Jimin had went to Yoongi for help and Yoongi, being the a caring friend, helps Jimin to get to Seokjin.

“Should have known.”

Jimin giggles and Seokjin laughs, too. Then, their food comes. Seokjin tells his boyfriend to wait as he watches the waiter places down the plates of his and Yoongi’s food, thanking him before he leaves the table.

“Minnie?”

“Yes, my love,” Jimin answers sweetly. It makes Seokjin’s ears redden.

“I know you have work to do, so don’t worry. I understand. It’s just one anniversary. Plus, we can celebrate it when come back from Germany, right?”

“Of course, hyung.”

“I love you a lot, Jimin-ah. You mean the world to me,” he speaks softly.

“And I really love you, too, hyung. Please know that I am more than willing to do anything to be back home with you and celebrate our fourth year of being together.”

“I know.”

“I will call you as soon as you wake up on our anniversary. Okay?” Jimin suggests.

“Love, it’ll be, like, 11 o’clock for you. You’ll need to sleep since you have to go to work next day.”

Jimin whines, “I don’t care. Wanna video call you and look at your face and wish you sappy shits and tell you I love you, hyung.”

That makes Seokjin laugh a little loud. He bows in apology at the people sitting near him.

“You are really cute,” he muses.

“Well?” Jimin urges, a little annoyed. He’s being a brat.

“Of course. I will be waiting for your call, my baby.”

They talk a bit more and when they finally say goodbye to each other, Yoongi returns from the bathroom. Seokjin hands him his phone with a glare without heat and Yoongi pretends not to see.

“Let’s eat, hyung. The food’s getting cold.”

The both of them start digging in. Seokjin’s chest feels a lot lighter and happier as he chews on a piece of radish kimchi.

Seokjin has a dopey smile on his face as he pours the milk into a cup. The anniversary video call with Jimin ends with Jimin falling asleep to Seokjin singing. They spent about 3 hours talking, Jimin really called him as soon as Seokjin woke up. 3 hours seem a bit too short, but for now, Seokjin is content. He still misses his sweet, handsome, beautiful boyfriend but listening to him talking for and seeing his cute face for 3 hours are enough for now.

Seokjin shoots a text to Jimin. ‘I love you.’ Delivered. Jimin will see it once he wakes up to go to work. The younger will be back in a few days from now and Seokjin really can’t wait. He wants to cuddle and kiss Jimin until the both of them are too tired to do anything but sleep.

As he wonders what to cook for breakfast, he gets a text from his friends. They are going to breakfast at the new cafe close to Seokjin’s apartment building. Jungkook mentions that Seokjin should join them. Not debating on it too much and after rationalizing how long has it been since he hung out with his friends, Seokjin agreed. It’s only 9, he has time to make himself a little more presentable before going to the restaurant.

“Hyung!” Jungkook greets excitedly when Seokjin finally reaches the building. The young man runs toward him and throws his arms around Seokjin. The older grunts, not having the same amount of energy to return the enthusiasm.

“You are heavy, Gguk!” he yells.

“Yeah, you’re going to crush Seokjin hyung and he’s going to die too soon,” Yoongi deadpans.

Jungkook pouts and Seokjin glares at Yoongi. Their other friends just laugh. Taehyung, Hoseok, and Namjoon give him a hug and they all wish him a happy anniversary. It’s a little awkward since Jimin is not there to receive the wishes as well, but Seokjin smiles happily and thank them. They walk into the restaurant, Jungkook clinging on Seokjin’s arm.

When Taehyung and Hoseok, Yoongi, Namjoon, and Jungkook sit next to each other, Seokjin feels a little jealous. His friends are sitting with their partner(s) while his boyfriend is in a country 8 hours behind him. He’s probably sleeping still.

“Seokjin hyung?”

The oldest snaps out of his thoughts. He looks at Taehyung, who is sitting next to his right. “Ah, yeah. Taehyung-ah,” he says.

“He misses you too, you know?”

“I know.”

Taehyung gives him such a kind smile and Seokjin grabs his hand and squeezes. The six of them list out their orders when a waitress comes up to their table. They talk about everything and nothing, their table is quite loud considering it’s still morning, so much to talk about, even though they always meet up every few days.

When their orders arrive, they all dig in. Taehyung tells Seokjin how much he loves his latest book which is released two months ago. Seokjin will never get used to receiving compliments but he thanks Taehyung and he asks the younger what he likes the most about the book. Jungkook, who is sitting on Seokjin’s left, keeps feeding Seokjin with his sweet pancake. The older eats every piece offered absentmindedly as he is never one to deny being fed. Namjoon then gives Jungkook his food because he can’t finish it and because Jungkook is giving him puppy eyes. Yoongi offers his English muffin to Namjoon and Namjoon lets Yoongi feed him. Hoseok informs them his dance academy will be doing a festival next month and his dance crew will be performing. He tells his friends he has reserved the tickets for them and they are all invited and are not excused from attending.

After Seokjin pays for their food, Jungkook proposes they go to the movies. Hoseok and Yoongi whine that it is too early to be watching movie. Jungkook pouts while Namjoon and Taehyung are already giving in. They look at Seokjin and the oldest sighs, relenting. He won’t be doing anything if he stays at home and he will be thinking about Jimin’s absence too much. Everyone is dressed decent enough, too. Seokjin rides with Taehyung and Hoseok while Namjoon, Yoongi and Jungkook drive to the mall in Namjoon’s car.

Taehyung and Hoseok talk quietly. Seokjin, obsessively, checks his phone. There is no text from Jimin and his last text to the younger is still on delivered. He sighs quietly and looks out as they pass by building and people and trees. He wishes the day can move faster.

They spend a good few hours at the mall. Seokjin treats them to lunch, too. His mind steers away from sadness and Seokjin feels happy. Jungkook and Taehyung keep sticking to him while Namjoon, Yoongi and Hoseok never stop talking with him. They really distract him, even though they tried not to make it too obvious. But, when they passed by a jewellery store, Seokjin stopped in front of the display window. He looks at the bands and his heart jumped. He thought of Jimin. Would Jimin prefer gold or silver? Jimin loves rings, maybe bracelet will stand out more as engagement band. Namjoon called for him and Seokjin tore his eyes away from the shiny jewellery.

“Hyung, you wanna go somewhere after this?” Hoseok asks when the six of them are walking back to their parking spots.

Seokjin hums, thinking a little. It’s a little after 2 in the afternoon. Maybe they can go to Jimin’s favourite place, the beach and Seokjin can give him a call when they are there.

“Let’s go to the beach? I want to call Jimin and show him the sea. He must be missing his favourite place,” Seokjin proposes with a smile.

Jungkook sniffles loudly before fake-crying about how sweet Seokjin and Jimin are. There are a few people near them and they have to ignore all the stares, face reddening. Yoongi pinches Jungkook’s cheek in mock exasperation as Hoseok and Taehyung argue with their youngest friend. Namjoon gives Seokjin a comforting pats on the shoulder.

The ride to the beach is far better because Jimin finally responds to his text.

“Hyung, you are smiling a little too hard, hyung,” Hoseok teases from where he is driving.

Seokjin rolls his eyes, “you are so nosy.”

Taehyung turns in his seat a little to look at Seokjin. “Were you texting Jimin, hyung?”

“Yeah.”

It’s quiet for a while. Then, Taehyung speaks again.

“I have known Jimin my whole life. It is safe to say that I know you guys are perfect because you complete each other,” he speaks softly.

And, that is something really cringy to be said by a person, right? But, Seokjin blinks back the tears and holds out his hand to Taehyung. They look at each other, speaking with their eyes.

Seokjin has known Jimin for 7 years, but Taehyung is Jimin’s soulmate. They have lived their entire lives together and while Seokjin has a lot more to learn about Jimin and is a bit jealous because Taehyung knew everything about his soulmate, he is more than happy, relieved to be blessed by Taehyung as Jimin’s boyfriend.

They almost reach the beach and Jimin tells him he is going to eat his breakfast a little before Seokjin video calls him to show the sea. Surprisingly, when they park their cars, there aren’t too many people. Seokjin notices a beautiful setup a bit further from where they are parked and his throat jumps a little. He is suddenly sure he wants to get married to Jimin for the rest of his lives.

Namjoon and Yoongi walk on either side of Seokjin as they stroll down the seashore. The weather is perfect, not too warm and not too cloudy. The breeze coming from the sea is chilly. Jungkook and Taehyung are giggling so much as they run after Hoseok who is screaming, trying to get away from his boyfriend and friend from being tossed into the sea. Namjoon and Yoongi are talking about their work as producers at their shared company and Seokjin, while he doesn’t know a lot of production, listen intently.

Suddenly, there are a pair of hands covering his eyes from behind. Seokjin jolts.

“Hyung! Stop squirming, it’s just me!” Jungkook complains.

How the fuck does this kid run so quick that he is now standing behind him? Seokjin can hear laughter coming from his other friends.

“What are you doing, Gguk-ah?!” Seokjin panics as the youngest tries to make him step forward with his eyes still covered. “I’m gonna trip, Jungkook!”

“No, you won’t! I wanna show you something and you can’t look at it yet,” Jungkook says with a grin.

“Yoongichi, help me!”

“Nope, no can do. You know Ggukie is stubborn.”

Seokjin frowns. “Isn’t it because you are stupidly in love with him?” he accuses.

“That, too, of course.”

And, the men burst into another laughter. Seokjin steps forward carefully as Jungkook guides him, his hands are being held by Namjoon and Taehyung each. The trip seems to take longer than ever and Seokjin starts whining. He has no idea what Jungkook, or any of his friends, is trying to show him. Whenever any of the couples (and a throuple, of course!) celebrate their anniversaries, they simply throw a small party. Seokjin doubts they are going to be partying, somewhere out in the public, in the afternoon and without Jimin.

“Almost there,” Jungkook mutters quietly.

Then, they are stopping. The hands covering his eyes are still there and Seokjin waits patiently.

“Okay, I’m gonna remove my hands, but you can’t open your eyes yet! Promise, hyung?”

Seokjin nods, not in the mood to mess around. Namjoon squeezes his hand and gives it a comforting pats with his other hand before letting it go and stepping away. Taehyung does the same, not before giving a loud kiss on his cheek. Seokjin laughs a little and senses Taehyung step away, too. Now, he feels a little nervous. He squeezes his eyes tight when Jungkook remove his hands. The breeze feels a little cold now that his friends are not standing close to him.

“This is not a prank, right? You guys still here, right?” Seokjin asks loudly, nervousness audibles in his voice.

“Nope, not a prank,” Yoongi chirps a few feet behind him.

“It’s okay, hyung! You will love this!” Taehyung assures.

Namjoon, Hoseok and Jungkook let him know that they are still there, too. Seokjin lets out a breath, calming down his nerves.

“Okay, hyung! Open your eyes in 3!”

“1! 2! 3!”

Seokjin opens his eyes and blinks, blurry and confused. He turns to look at his friends behind him, who are smiling excitedly. Then, he turns his head to the front again and gasps, his breathe is punched out of him.

He is standing in front of the beautiful setup he saw before. But, Seokjin’s mind and heart are only focusing on something else.

On someone else.

Jimin is on one knee in front of him. Jimin is in front of him, holding a box open where a glimmering silver band rests inside it.

Jimin, who should be in Germany, who should be getting ready for work.

“Minnie?” Seokjin mutters brilliantly, too stunned, too shocked.

His boyfriend is smiling, his favourite smile. The one where he looks especially fond and so happy, eyes disappearing, turning into crescents, cheeks round and full with love.

“Seokjin hyung, between you and me, I admit that you are way better at words than I do,” Jimin starts, licking his lips. Seokjin is still frozen in his spot. “The past 4 years of being your other half has been nothing but the only thing that keeps my heart beating. You give me so much love, it overflows me and I want to give you more than love itself for the rest of our lives. I want to keep arguing with you why throw pillows are unnecessary. I want to keep cooking your favourite food even though I will cry because of how spicy it is. I want to keep listening to your ideas of the books you want to write because somehow they resonate our relationship. I want to share our happiness and sadness, to laugh and to cry with each other. I want to adopt a cat and a dog with you, and maybe, someday, when we are brave enough, I want to adopt a kid with you.”

Seokjin sniffles. He doesn’t know when he started crying but he is and he doesn’t care. He feels like bursting at the seams, every fibre in his being is vibrating with euphoria and love. He can’t believe at all this is happening, he can’t believe this is real.

“One day, after we are married for 50 years, when we are growing grey hairs, when we are retired, we can still hold each other,” Jimin continues, voice wet. “Grey and old. You okay with that, hyung?” he asks playfully.

Seokjin snorts and sniffles. “Sure.”

“Then, will you marry me, hyung?”

Fuck. Fuck. The tears are automatic now. Seokjin’s vision blurs once again.

“Yes,” he sobs. Dropping on his knees, Seokjin throws his arms around Jimin’s neck and kisses him, the younger readily catches him in his embrace.

Their friends yell, scream, whistle and jump around them, picking the rose petals and throwing them above Jimin and Seokjin, who are laughing against each other’s lips, wet. Jimin draws back a little, takes the band from the box and slides it on Seokjin’s ring finger. The three, small diamonds on the band blinking under the sun. Seokjin laughs and hugs Jimin again, burying his face into his fiancés neck. He breathes in deeply the familiar, comforting scent of Jimin. Relief and love flood throughout his body because the love of his life is there with him once again.

Seokjin pulls Jimin up after another minute of being on their knees. Their friends are still shouting and jumping around them, Jungkook recording every moment with his camera. Seokjin doesn’t know from where and when he whipped it out but for now he is just happy.

“You are awful,” he scolds Jimin. “You made me cry, made me think you wouldn’t be home till the end of the month!”

Jimin giggles, body swaying before he presses his face against Seokjin’s broad chest. “Forgive me, hyungie,” he apologizes in a cute voice.

Seokjin shakes his head, cheeks hurting from how hard he is smiling at the moment. His thumb rubs softly the band resting on his finger.

"You could have made them make me dress properly, Jimin-ah," he complains.

The younger smiles cheekily. "Well, I think you look perfect. I like you better in pajamas, anyway." He tilts his head a little, acting cute. Seokjin can't resist kissing his nose and they giggle. Their friends are forgotten, the whole world is forgotten. It is as if just the both of them existing at the moment.

"And I like you in any way," Seokjin tells Jimin. He brings Jimin's hand to his lips and press a gentle kiss on his knuckles.

"Let's go on a date, hyung. I owe you dinner for making you cry, right?"

Seokjin tugs Jimin's hand with him and they walk closer to the sea. They stand next to each other, sides pressing tight and feeling the breeze caress their skin. Seokjin turns his head to look at his friends behind them. They are picking up the petals on the sand, chasing the ones trying to fly away. He smiles and turns to look at his fiancé who is already looking at him.

"We gotta get rid of our friends first."

"Sure. Then, we go home. We can make love and you can make me cry as a payback. Then, we get ready for our date. Sounds good?" Jimin bites his lower lip, gaze lingers on Seokjin's mouth.

The older can feel warmth spreading south. It's been almost a month since they had sex. He is not one to deny an opportunity of making Jimin cry while having sex.

"Yeah. Yeah, we need to do that," Seokjin agrees breathlessly.

They lean into each other and press their mouths together. It's slow and sensual, Jimin gripping at the end of Seokjin's shirt. They are a little breathless when they part.

Seokjin admires Jimin for a bit. “I really love you.”

“I love you.”

Another kiss.

“Happy anniversary, love.”

“Happy anniversary, hyung.”

Forever.
