Shelby opened her eyes to the sight of a smiling redhead lying on top of her. The girl's piercing green eyes looking into her own. "Ugh, Emily... Why'd you wake me up so early?" Shelby looked over at her nightstand, the clock reading that it was just past 7:40 in the morning.
"Because it's Christmas!" Emily hopped up and down on the bed, pressing Shelby roughly down into the mattress.
"So? That doesn't mean I can't have my sleep."
Emily pouted, unhappy with Shelby's pessimism so early in the day. "You'd have some sleep if you didn't go to bed at 1 o'clock in the morning. But that doesn't mean I don't love you." Emily leaned down, nuzzling up against Shelby's neck.
"Stop that." Shelby pushed Emily away with a playful shove. Emily fell backwards onto the bed, being pinned down by Shelby's now fast moves. With a sly smile, Emily brought her head up, giving Shelby a light kiss. Emily giggled, placing her head against Shelby's chest.
"Come on! Let's go downstairs!" Emily slid out from underneath Shelby, and ran for the door. Shelby followed sleepily, still annoyed by how early in the morning it was.
Skipping down the stairs, Emily's flaming red hair dazzled in the early morning sunlight, giving Shelby a show in seconds. As Shelby reached the bottom of the staircase, she barely saw the tip of Emily's hair enter the living room. Going instead to the kitchen, Shelby opened the refrigerator and grabbed a Red Bull. Cracking it open with a satisfying metallic sound, she took a swig, feeling her eyes open with energy.
Stepping into the next room, Shelby was greeted with the sight of her girlfriend sitting under the Christmas tree, an exited smile on her face. Shelby plopped down onto the couch, watching as Emily shook a wrapped present next to her ear. "Can I open it?" Emily asked with puppy dog eyes.
Shelby nodded, causing to Emily to rip into the wrapping with frightening speed. Slowing her carnage down, she pulled out a dark blue and green scarf. Shelby blushed slightly as Emily tried it on, swinging it around her shoulder. Shelby found herself staring at her girlfriend as she spun around with her scarf. It was oddly, mesmerizing.
"Did you make this?" Emily asked curiously. Shelby's blush deepened as she took another sip from her can.
"Possibly," she responded quietly.
Before she knew it, Shelby was pinned to the couch in a tight hug, feeling the warmth of Emily against her body.
"Thank you so much," Emily whispered, her voice sounding like she was on the verge of tears.
"You're welcome, sweetheart." Shelby placed her hand against the back of Emily's head, softly patting her hair.
"Do you want to open one of your gifts?"
"Uhm, sure." Emily crawled out of Shelby's lap, before walking back to the base of the Christmas tree.
"Is there one you want in particular?" Emily asked as she leaned over the stack of presents.
"How about that one?" Shelby pointed at a thin box, it's wrapping being a gold and white zigzag design. Emily shuddered slightly before picking up the present, her face dusted pink as she handed it to Shelby. Shelby felt around the box, feeling it's thin cardboard bend and crumple under her presses. Tearing the wrapping off, she opened the box, revealing a red pair of lingerie.
Shelby blushed, unsure how she could react. Pulling it out of the now opened box, she hid her face from Emily. Emily started laughing hysterically, falling over onto the carpet. Shelby dropped it down, pouting as Emily rolled around the floor laughing.
"It's not that funny," Shelby said quietly.
Emily sat up, holding her chest as she gathered her breath. "Well, do you like it?"
"I do. It's just that… I didn't expect you to buy me something like this."
"Well of course I did!" Emily beamed. "I know how much you love when I put on things like that, so I bought a pair for you!"
"Come here."
Emily walked over to the couch, sitting down next to her girlfriend. Shelby leaned in, her mouth next to Emily's ear. "Want to try it tonight?" Shelby whispered before kissing Emily's cheek.
Emily nodded, her face now dusted pink. Maybe it was a Christmas miracle after all…
