It's New Years Eve and Jimin finally gets up the nerve to ask out his favorite customer, Jungkook.

(Can be read as a standalone fic)

Notes:

This fic is technically a sequel to my Taejin story, Winter Bear, however, Jungkook was not in the first part, he was only mentioned. Feel free to skim part 1 to see what was said, but basically, Jimin works at a coffee shop and has had a long time crush on a customer, Jungkook, who often comes into the shop to see him. But he hasn't worked up the nerve to ask him out just yet.

Part 1 of the series is a taejin based fic. Seokjin agrees to be Jimin's fake boyfriend at his cousin Taehyung's Christmas party, but Taehyung can see through the ploy, and he and Jin end up falling for each other instead. The family still doesn't know the truth...

Taejin readers: I would still read this one first as it has some t/j in the background.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Jimin twiddles his thumbs, staring at the door and waiting for a customer to enter the shop just to give him something to do. He’s spent the last two hours quietly working around the small coffee shop, constantly making sure there were fresh pastries in the center case in the off chance someone would actually come by.

Most shops around the area are closed for the holidays but Jimin has decided to work on the few days between Christmas and New Years… just in case a particular dark haired, friendly, totally adorable, customer happened to walk through the door.

He hears the jingle of the door and immediately glances up, spotting his friend Seokjin. He tries not to feel the slightest tinge of disappointment. He loves Seokjin but he’d be lying if he said he wasn’t hoping for someone different to stroll in. But he should have known better, he knew Seokjin would be stopping by so they could talk about their plans for New Years.

It’s become sort of a tradition to spend Christmas and New Years together and considering January 1st is only 2 days away. It would be good to sort out their plans.

Seokjin says hello to Jimin and sits at the counter, waiting for him to make his traditional Americano for him. Jimin thinks it’s a boring drink, and definitely not sweet enough, but he’s not the biggest coffee fan anyways, ignoring the fact that he serves it every day.

Seokjin is barely responsive because his eyes are glued to his phone. He’s smiling like an idiot at the screen and Jimin knows before he even asks that he’s texting Taehyung. His cousin.

The two had met at their families annual Christmas party. Jimin had dragged Seokjin along to pretend to be his fake boyfriend so his parents would get off his back about always being single. But, amidst all the chaos Seokjin had actually gone and fallen for Taehyung instead, complicating things. Their parents still thought Jimin and Seokjin were dating. It was a complete mess that Jimin was not looking forward to sorting out.

To make things even trickier, Taehyung had invited Seokjin to attend his parents annual New Years Eve party that they threw at their Penthouse every year and Seokjin had been begging Jimin for weeks to attend with him.

“You know you owe me for pretending to be your fake boyfriend to begin with, so don’t even try to get out of it.”

And it’s not that Jimin doesn’t want to go. He loves parties and New Years, but the idea of having to tell his parents the truth about the whole Christmas debacle is daunting. It’s not exactly at the top of his to do list. Though the alternative of pretending to be in a relationship with Seokjin again isn’t ideal either.

“Why can’t you just go on your own?” Jimin asks.

“Because. You’re supposed to be my ‘boyfriend’. You need to come so there’s a reason for me being there.” Seokjin begs, throwing on his best puppy dog expression. Damn it for working almost every time. “And we don’t have to tell anyone the truth about us yet, we can keep it all casual. Just have fun, as friends. Your parents are probably gonna be too busy doing their own thing to even notice any of us.”

“Okay, okay.” Jimin caves. His best friend is happy and dating someone for real for the first time in… ever, so the least he could do is be supportive. “I’ll go.”

“You could invite him you know?” Seokjin says tentatively.

But Jimin ignores it, not wanting to hear it. Seokjin is talking about Jungkook, Jimin’s crush for the last year. He comes in to get coffee occasionally and Seokjin’s been trying to get Jimin to ask him out for weeks. But Jimin is stubborn and a big old scaredy cat and he doesn’t want to put himself out there just to get rejected. He can’t risk scaring Jungkook away by revealing his crush. What if Jungkook didn’t feel the same? It’d be humiliating and then they wouldn’t even be friends anymore because Jungkook would probably start avoiding the coffee shop all together.

“How are things going with Taehyung?” Jimin asks, changing the subject.

Seokjin immediately smiles and Jimin thinks that he probably doesn’t even need to know the answer. He could probably guess based on his reaction alone.

“It’s going well, and we’ve been talking every night.”

Jimin jokes, “oh really, just talking? No kinky phone sex or anything like that?”

He gets a smack for saying it and Jimin knows that Seokjin would never confess to something like that, even if it was true.

“You guys are too adorable… it makes me sick.” He teases. Deep down he’s of course happy for them both. He just wishes his own dating life was as successful.

“Uhh..” Seokjin says suddenly and Jimin can see that his focus is outside the front window. “I’m sorry in advance.” Seokjin rushes out and before Jimin can even ask what the hell he is talking about he hears the ringing bell of the front door and sees it opening.

In walks Jungkook and Jimin finally understands.

“I told him we were here and that he should come by.” Seokjin whispers quickly, before Jungkook manages to make his way up to the counter. He’s smiling brightly at the both of them and Jimin plasters on his own smile, pretending to be happy.

He loves Seokjin but sometimes he really needs to mind his own damn business.

“You came!” Seokjin says loudly, hand going to Jungkook’s back as he welcomes him in. Jungkook smiles at him softly before turning to look at Jimin and Jimin suddenly feels like he can’t breathe.

He’s so ridiculously attracted to Jungkook that sometimes he doesn’t even know how to act around him. When they’d first met he was so confident and found it easy to make conversation, but as Jungkook grew up and matured Jimin’s crush got stronger. Which made it more difficult for him to act normal around him. He wondered if Jungkook had noticed the shift in his behavior. Now he was just a shy, mumbling mess half the time.

“Jimin-ssi!” Jungkook says enthusiastically, something he’s come to shout pretty much every time he comes into the coffee shop. It makes Jimin’s heart swell with fondness.

“JK!” Jimin tries to tease casually, but glances at the floor, feeling flustered. “What’s up?”

“You tell me,” Jungkook responds, “Jin-hyung said you wanted to talk to me about something?”

Jimin immediately turns his head to Seokjin, silently staring daggers at him and hoping that he takes the hint. But Seokjin only smiles back at him and lifts his eyebrows, in silent encouragement.

Jimin takes a breath, trying to find the balls to just spit out what he wants to say. It’s now or never and he really doesn’t have a choice to back out, not with Seokjin setting him up like this.

“Oh, well… Seokjin-hyung and I were just taking about New Yews and wondering if you had any plans?” Jimin tries to say casually. Part of him is hoping Jungkook will say yes, that he does have plans, so that Jimin won’t have to ask his follow up question and get rejected, but of course Jungkook is smiling at him and saying no.

“My cousin, Taehyung, throws a party every year…well actually, his parents do. And he’s invited Jin-hyung and I to go and I thought… well, I don’t know, if you weren’t doing anything maybe…” He continues to ramble until Seokjin is stepping in and attempting to help him out.

“Maybe you wanted to come with us?”

Jimin’s jealous of how easily the words come out of his mouth.

“That sounds like a blast!” Jungkook says enthusiastically. “I never do anything fun on New Years.”

“Awesome,” Seokjin says casually. “We can pick you up? Just give Jimin your number and we can text you details?”

Jimin’s amazed at how smooth Seokjin actually is. How he’s subtly gotten Jungkook’s number in .5 seconds when that’s something he’s failed to do for the last eleven months since he’s known him.

“Okay sure, what’s your number Jimin-hyung? I will text you right now.”

Jimin falters for a second, racking his brain to remember it and then calls out the numbers, watching as Jungkook enters them. Jimin’s phone vibrates in his pocket seconds later and he’s shaking as he retrieves it, instantly saving Jungkook into his contact list. He hopes his utter excitement isn’t too obvious.

Jungkook sticks around to chat for a few minutes before telling them that he has plans with his brother and will see them in a few days. He smiles at them both, waving before leaving the coffee shop and once he’s out of earshot Jimin leans over the counter to smack Seokjin in the arm.

“Hey!” Jin protests. “What the hell was that for?”

“I can’t believe you did that Hyung!” Jimin nearly shouts. What if Jungkook had rejected him? It could have mad things super awkward for him afterwards.

“I think you should be thanking me right now.” Seokjin says defiantly.

And yes, he’s right. Jimin should be thanking him because otherwise he wouldn’t be spending his New Years with his crush. He just wishes Seokjin had prepared him more.

Maybe it’s better this way. By making it into a sort of group hang there is a lot less pressure.

Things will be fine.

Jimin’s a nervous wreck by the time Seokjin gets to Jungkook’s house. He pulls out his phone and sends a short, “we’re here” text to Jungkook as they wait for him to come outside. He vaguely wonders if he should have gone to his door, but talks himself out of it. This is not a date.

Jungkook makes his way outside and Jimin practically forgets how to breathe. He looks so good in all black, with the front of his shirt slightly unbuttoned and his long hair swept to the side.

He jumps in the backseat and says his hellos, and off they go.

Saying the Kim penthouse is huge is quite an understatement. Taehyung’s family is loaded, and even though Jimin is already very aware of this fact, the other two have clear looks of amazement etched on their faces when Seokjin pulls up to park outside.

They take an elevator to the correct floor and are greeted by Jimin’s aunt once they get inside. She takes their coats and Jimin can spot Taehyung out of the corner of his eye. He’s talking to a few of Jimin’s cousins and after a moment he glances over. Jimin can see Seokjin make eye contact with him and huge smiles form on both of their faces. They are clearly happy to see each other again and Jimin knows that his best friend is holding back from running straight over and jumping into Taehyung’s arms. Instead Taehyung saunters over slowly and says hello, bowing at Jungkook a little awkwardly and then giving Jimin a hug. He moves to Seokjin last, and Jimin can feel how tense they are, like neither knows just what to do.

“Hi.” Taehyung say softly.

“Hi.” Seokjin responds, moving forward to wrap his arms around Taehyung timidly.

It’s awkward and cute and Jimin feels like he should give them time to chat.

“We’re gonna get some snacks,” Jimin says to the two and then quietly continues, “remember we are in front of family.”

Considering everyone still believes that Jimin and Seokjin are the ones that are dating they can’t make it too obvious that things have changed.

Jimin watches as Taehyung and Seokjin walk off together. He can see their smiles from here. They look nervous, and cute and Jimin’s not sure he’s ever seen his cousin act like this with someone before.

He can feel Jungkook watching him from the corner of his eye and turns to look at him, raising his eyebrows slightly before Jungkook is interrupting his thoughts.

“What exactly is going on between those two?” Jungkook pries, with a smile.

“Honestly, I’m not sure myself.” Jimin answers honestly. “They met at our Christmas party this year and they hooked up. I think they’ve been texting non-stop for a few days. I know Seokjin wants more. Probably Tae too, I’ve never really seen him like this.”

“It’s sweet.” Jungkook says confidently, smiling at him, and Jimin tries his hardest not stare.

“Yeah, but it’s complicated.”

“How so?” Jungkook asks, grabbing some food from the nearby table and stuffing it into his mouth.

“Well, actually…” Jimin hesitates. Not really sure how to tell Jungkook this next part. “I kinda told my family I was bringing a boyfriend this year… so I convinced Jin to come with me and pretend to be him…”

Jungkook just listens quietly, and Jimin continues, “and I guess Tae could see through the lie and just kept pushing Jin’s buttons until he caved and admitted the truth. But, he’s the only one that knows. The rest of my family still kinda thinks I’m dating Jin…”

He looks at Jungkook sheepishly and Jungkook only nods slowly. Jimin wishes he could read his expression.

“Why didn’t you ask me?” Jungkook surprises Jimin by saying.

“Seriously?” Jimin asks tentatively. “You would have done that for me?”

“Sure.” Jungkook answers nonchalantly, eating more food. “I mean, that would have been more believable then you and Jin don’t you think?”

Jimin’s not sure entirely what he means by that, but he is shocked that Jungkook is acting so casual about this. That he wouldn’t have minded at all pretending to be Jimin’s boyfriend.

“Well, I thought about asking you…” Jimin says quietly.

Jungkook stops chewing, looking at Jimin with wide eyes.

“You did?”

Jimin nods. “But I didn’t want to put you in an awkward position or make you feel weird or anything…”

“It wouldn’t have felt weird.” Jungkook says without hesitation. “It would have been easy.”

And then Jungkook’s just staring at him and suddenly Jimin feels a bit suffocated, even in a room here with all these people. Again, he wants to ask what Jungkook means but he can’t find the courage.

“Too late now.” Jimin chuckles but Jungkook isn’t really laughing, just staring at the food on the table.

“How long are you guys gonna pretend?” Jungkook asks. “I mean at midnight… are you guys gonna…”

And Jimin knows exactly what Jungkook is implying. It’s tradition in many other countries to kiss your loved one at midnight.

“No.” Jimin says immediately.

He did actually kiss Jin at Christmas, but it was mostly just to mess with Taehyung. And it was weird. Kissing someone you see as a brother doesn’t feel like much of anything. He doesn’t particularly care to do it again.

“I don’t know how long we’re gonna keep it up.” Jimin says honestly. “I haven’t decided if I want to tell them the truth or just pretend like we decided to be friends.”

“I think the longer you wait the harder they are going to take it. Everyone loves Seokjin, right?”

Jimin wants to scream that he doesn’t. Well, he does, as a friend. But not in that way.

All Jimin wants is Jungkook.

When Jimin runs into Seokjin again later he has a dopey smile etched on his face and two empty drinks in his hand. Jimin can tell that he’s enjoying himself.

“Getting another for Taehyung I presume?” Jimin teases and Jin smiles, looking at the ground.

“Yeah.” He says. “How is it going with you and Jungkook?”

“Okay.” Jimin responds. Jungkook hadn’t been his typical peppy self this evening. He wondered if Jungkook was really having a good time or not. Maybe he’d only agreed to come because he was too nice to say no?

“Just okay?” Seokjin pries.

“I told him. About our dumb fake dating plan. I dunno, he seemed a little put off by it.”

“Uh, yeah, probably because he’s jealous.”

“What?” Jimin asks. “No he’s not. You’re crazy.”

He refuses to get his hopes up over Jungkook. Just because Seokjin insists that he sees something there doesn’t mean that there is.

“You don’t see the way he looks at you?” Jin teases, setting the cup down and softly rubbing one of Jimin’s shoulders in comfort. “Come on, have a little faith. Tell him how you feel.”

Jimin can’t think of anything scarier.

Before Seokjin can say anything else a voice is rising out, which Jimin recognizes as his own mothers.

“There you two are! I haven’t seen you together all night!” She exclaims, smiling at Seokjin. She doesn’t seem to have any sort of suspicion in her voice. “What have you been up to?”

“You know, just entertaining our friends, Eomma.” Jimin smiles, slapping an arm around Seokjin’s shoulders.

“I’m so glad you came,” she says to Seokjin before turning back to Jimin, “you two have fun.” She says fondly, kissing them both on the cheeks before running off again to spend time with her friends.

Jimin watches her go and glances across the room to see Jungkook staring at him from one of the outdoor patios. Jimin immediately drops his hand from Seokjin’s shoulders.

“We should probably tell them soon.” Jimin finds himself saying. “The longer we wait the harder they will take it, you know?”

Taehyung interrupts, coming up to with a cheeky smile on his face.

“What are you guys doing?” He teases, hand firm around Seokjin’s wrist as he glances between the both of them.

“Jimin will fill you in, I need to run to the bathroom.” Seokjin smiles, squeezing Taehyung’s hand and for a second it looks like he is going to lean in and kiss him, but he catches himself, running off down the hallway.

Jimin immediately turns to Taehyung, eyes wide.

“Clearly it’s going well for you two?”

“Yeah… it is.” Taehyung says shyly.

“You guys better cool it or everyone’s gonna figure out what’s really going on.” Jimin warns.

“I can’t help it. I like him so much.” Taehyung sighs before taking a sip of his drink.

“Is it serious this time Taehyung? Or this just another one of your flings? Because Seokjin-hyung is the best person I know and I swear if you hurt him…”

“Whoa, I’m not going to hurt him chimchim,” Taehyung responds, throwing his old nickname for Jimin out there to lighten the mood, “I really like him.”

“Good. Because he cares a lot about you too.”

“I know he does.” Taehyung says with conviction. “We talked about things, earlier. And we wanted to give this a real chance. So…” Taehyung looks hesitant to tell Jimin the next part, “I think I am going to stay in Korea. And not go back to New York.”

“Wait, seriously?” Jimin asks. He is completely shocked by this information. He knows how much Taehyung loved his internship in New York the last year. “Does Jin-hyung know this?”

“Not yet.” Taehyung says. “I didn’t want to scare him off….”

“You won’t.” Jimin interrupts. “You should tell him though. Tonight.”

“Okay,” Taehyung says, smiling, “maybe I will.”

“Perhaps at midnight? And then you can give him his New Years kiss.” Jimin teases.

“Right…” Taehyung laughs it off, “are you forgetting something? What about the family?”

Jimin sighs, not sure what to say. It’s barely been a week and the secret is already eating him up. He doesn’t want his family thinking he’s dating Seokjin anymore. Not when he can see how ridiculously happy his cousin and his best friend are together. Not when his mid is full of thoughts of someone else. Maybe this whole charade just needs to end tonight.

“What about them?” Jimin says, surprising even himself.

Taehyung smiles at him then, mouth wide and eyes crinkled as he pats Jimin on the shoulder, “you should maybe take your own advice too you know?” he says quietly, walking away.

As the night goes on the party only seems to get more wild and louder as it gets closer and closer to midnight. Jungkook is quite the social butterfly, making his way around to strangers and introducing himself, laughing and seemingly having a good time.

Jimin is glad that Jungkook is able to enjoy himself but it wasn’t exactly how he expected or hoped the night would go. He had wanted Jungkook to stick to his side most of the time, claiming not to know anyone that well so that they could hang out together. Jimin secretly wanted it to feel like a date but it sort of just felt like any other party with friends.

Jimin looks over his shoulder and he can see Taehyung and Seokjin talking in hushed whispers in the corner of the room. Taehyung is speaking intently and then Seokjin smiles, eyes lighting up before leaning in and hugging Taehyung. They hold each other tightly for a solid minute. Obviously, Taehyung had told Seokjin the news about staying in Seoul and clearly, Seokjin was glad about it.

Jimin is happy for his friends but sometimes he wishes he were in the same boat with someone. Seeing so many couples around during the holidays makes him feel extremely lonely. He'd barely gotten through Christmas with the two of them.

Jimin can’t help but continue to stare and when Taehyung pulls back and full on kisses Seokjin on the mouth, he’s forced to catch his breath. He thinks he hears an audible gasp and when he turns to look next to him his mom is standing there, also watching the two of them in shock.  Her eyes immediately scan the room, looking for Jimin before stalking over to him. Jimin is not sure he’s ready for this conversation but he’s secretly glad for it. At least this ridiculous lie about him and Seokjin can be put to rest.

“Jimin, what is going on?” his mother asks him urgently, staring at him and waiting for an explanation. Jimin only shrugs his shoulder, unsure what to say exactly.

“We broke up?”

He says the first thing that comes to his mind. He should just be honest and tell her the entire story but the words tumble out before he can catch himself.

“From Christmas?” She asks, seemingly stressed. “It’s been a few days honey…”

Jimin sighs. He knows he needs to tell her the truth. He just isn’t sure how he’s supposed to say it. “Eomma, we were never really together okay? I made the whole thing up. I was tired of the family constantly asking me why I wasn’t dating anyone. Seokjin-hyung agreed to help me out. You guys all loved him so much last year...”

“Oh honey…” she begins. He’s not sure if she feels bad for him, or if she’s disappointed in him. “And how did that happen?” she finishes, gesturing to Taehyung and Seokjin.

“I guess they hit it off at Christmas…” Jimin explains.

“Are you okay with this?” She asks him, putting a hand on his back and rubbing softly.

“Yes, I’m fine with it. I don’t like Seokjin in that way. I never did. I’m sorry I lied Eomma.”

She looks a bit frustrated with him but also sympathetic and leans in to give Jimin a hug. “I wish you hadn’t of lied to everyone but… welI I know how much pressure this family puts on others… just don’t do something like this again. And if someone is bothering you about this then tell them to talk to me.”

“Eomma.” Jimin whines. He loves his mom but does she have to be so embarrassing? Though he appreciates her words.

She kisses him once on the cheek and they chat a little longer before she finally agrees to give Jimin some space. She tells him she will talk to the family members and try to help explain things, walking away. Jimin is relieved that she took the news so well, unsure how the rest of his family will feel about this. He did lie to all of them for a week straight. But what’s done is done, and now he can finally move on.

He almost wants to laugh at how easy it was to come clean, knowing he should have done it even sooner, but well… it’s over now.

Seokjin and Taehyung are watching him carefully from the side, and Taehyung nods at him, a sympathetic smile on his face. Jimin returns the smile and turns back towards the kitchen. He could use a drink.

He grabs a beer and then heads off towards the hallway, finding an empty bedroom where he can sulk for a while. He is surprised when he hears footsteps and looks up to find Jungkook following him into the room, shutting the door softly behind them.

“Hey,” he says quietly, walking over to Jimin and sitting next to him on the bed.

“Hey.” Jimin responds. He wonders how long Jungkook was watching him if he knew exactly where to find him, "where have you been all night?”

“Just hanging out. Trying to be social. I’ve met a lot of your family tonight. They are really nice,” he says and Jimin smiles at that. It’s nice to hear that the boy you are crushing on likes your family.

“Yeah, well, they might not be very nice to me now that the secret is out. My mom saw Taehyung and Seokjin kissing. It went okay but I don't know how the rest of the family is going to react.”

“Yeah, I saw what happened…” Jungkook says sheepishly, scooting a bit closer to Jimin on the bed. “I’m sorry Hyung.”

He’s looking at Jimin so sweetly and all Jimin wants to do is lean in and hug him. But he doesn’t want to do anything to push Jungkook away. So he resists.

“It’s okay. I’m kind of relieved it’s out there you know? I didn’t really like lying to everyone.”

“Yeah. It’s good you told the truth. You deserve to find someone that you really care about.”

His voice is soft, and sweet, and Jimin wants to tell Jungkook that he has found someone to care about. But then Jungkook is actually laughing and it surprises Jimin.

“Oh, so you find my misery funny?” Jimin teases, lightly punching Jungkook in the shoulder.

“No…” He tries to defend himself. “Okay, well, maybe a little bit. Mostly that your family believed that you and Seokjin-hyung were actually dating.

Jimin doesn’t know if he should take that as an insult or not. Jin-hyung is obviously beautiful. Does Jungkook think that Seokjiin is out of his league?

“What’s so unbelievable about that?” Jimin asks. “You can’t see me with a boyfriend?”

“No, it’s not that.” Jungkook answers immediately. “I can see that.”

“Then what, Jin-hyung is just too beautiful to be dating me?” Jimin mostly teases but also part of him wonders.

“What? No. That’s not what I meant either. You are just as beautiful as he is.”

Jimin tries not to let his last words get to him. It's probably a nothing comment.

“Then what?”

“Just… I don’t know. You guys are best friends. I can’t see you together… plus, I thought, maybe…”

“Maybe what?” Jimin asks, waiting for Jungkook to continue. But he doesn’t. He just stares at Jimin for a few seconds before leaning in again, even further this time. He can feel Jungkook's hands on top of his and he glances down to see his own hand completely covered, Jungkok intertwining their fingers together.

“You really don’t know?”

And based on the way Jungkook is looking at him, he thinks he can probably figure it out. His heart nearly jumps out of his chest when he sees Jungkook leaning forward, face only inches away. He never expected his feelings for Jungkook to be reciprocated. He thought Jungkook only viewed him as a friend. But clearly that wasn’t the case.

“I was hoping you were into someone else…” Jungkook whispers, eyes focused on Jimin’s lips. Jimin cant take the tension any longer and pushes in, crushing his lips over Jungkook’s feverishly, unable to stop himself.

And then Jungkook’s hands are grabbing the sides of his head and holding him in place, kissing him back just as hard and Jimin allows himself to get lost in the feeling.

Jimin pulls away, trying to catch his breath. “I am,” he finally confesses, which forces a smile out of Jungkook. He leans back in, pressing his lips against Jimin's again.

They kiss for a while after that, how long, Jimin has no idea, but he gets lost in the feeling. Jungkook’s hands are on his shoulders, fingertips pressing in and he’s leaning his body forward, into Jimin’s space as close as he can get while they kiss. Jungkook’s lips are soft and frantic against his own, like he’s been wanting to do this for a while. Maybe he has.

Jimin thinks about how precarious they are being and what someone would think if they walked in right now and caught them doing this. It’s not that Jimin cares about his sexuality, because his family knows he’s gay, but a few days ago he was “dating” Seokjin and now here he was kissing someone else?

Jimin’s thoughts are interrupted when Jungkook pulls away and he’s seemingly out of breath, staring at Jimin and smiling.

“I’ve wanted to do that for a long time.”

“You have?” Jimin asks. He can hardly believe it. This whole time Jungkook has felt he exact what that he has?

“Yeah um… I don’t even like coffee.” Jungkook laughs. “I throw it out half the time after I buy it.”

“What?” Jimin asks in disbelief. “You could have just ordered something else…”

“Not the point.” Jungkook teases, dipping in and stealing another kiss. “I only come to see you. I was starting to get a little impatient… you couldn’t tell that I was flirting with you?”

And honestly Jimin hadn’t. He had hoped, of course, and he always wanted to believe Seokjin when he said Jungkook was flirting but Jungkook had never asked him out or made it clear. At least not, until now.

“I just thought you were being nice.” Jimin says with a small smile, suddenly feeling shy.

“I’m not that nice.” Jungkook whispers, pushing back in to kiss Jimin again.

This time it’s twice as demanding and Jungkook’s actually pushing Jimin down onto the mattress, climbing over him and dipping back in to kiss him again. His lips trail over Jimin's jaw and then down to his neck, where he sucks gently on the flesh. Not enough to cause any sort of hickey or anything. But Jimin thinks to himself how much he wouldn't mind seeing that reminder tomorrow morning.

Jimin feels like his veins are on fire, he never expected to be here with Jungkook.

The kiss doesn’t last nearly as long as Jimin wants it to because a loud noise outside the door startles both of them.

“Did you hear that?” Jungkook asks as he pulls up from Jimin and sits back on the bed, Jimin following right behind him.

It’s quiet as they both listen, but no other noises filter in. However, the voices of everyone outside the door is loud. People are starting to count, “Twenty! Nineteen! Eighteen!”

“It’s almost Midnight!” Jungkook says with a smile on his face and he grabs Jimin’s hand, pulling him out of the room to join the crowd.

Jimin scans the room quickly but cannot find Taehyung or Seokjin anywhere. He is about to look for them, but Jungkook has other plans, pulling him over to a nearby window so they can look out when the clock ticks down.

“Ten! Nine!”

“Make a wish!” Jungkook says and Jimin wants to laugh, because he’s pretty sure this isn’t a birthday and that’s not how this works, but Jungkook is looking at him so sweetly and for a brief second Jimin closes his eyes.

“Six! Five!”

He wants to open them, but suddenly, there’s a warm press against his mouth and he realizes that Jungkook is kissing him. Again. Except this time, it’s right out in the open.

“Two! One! Happy New Year!”

They kiss through the chanting and then all the noises around them seem to filter out and quiet as their mouths move together. Jimin can vaguely hear fireworks going off outside in the distance, but all he can truly focus on right now is Jungkook.

Jungkook pulls away finally, whispering, “Happy New Year, Jimin."

“Happy New Year.”

Jimin glances around and is surprised to see his mom staring at him from a few feet away. He feels slightly embarrassed that she’s just caught him kissing Jungkook, especially after everything that went down tonight, but she smiles at him and raises her glass to him. He knows that things are going to be okay.

A ping on Jimin’s phone interrupts the moment and he pulls it out of his pocket. He has a message from Seokjin. All that is included in the text is a picture of Seokjin and Taehyung outside, in the snow, kissing.

He laughs softly, turning the phone over and showing it to Jungkook who also smiles. He makes some comment like, “Aren’t they freezing out there?” and Jimin quickly leans in to Jungkook, arm around his shoulder and snaps a picture, interrupting his thought.

He sends the photo back to Seokjin, with the caption, “now we’re even,” And puts the phone back away.

“I can’t believe you just kissed me in front of everyone.” Jimin says to him and Jungkook takes the opportunity to snake his arms around Jimin’s waist, holding him.

“I wanted to for a long time, but I didn’t know if you felt the same way.”

“Are you kidding?” Jimin exclaims, “I’ve been pining for you for almost a year. I can’t believe this whole time we could have been…”
