It wasn't that Jin Guangyao feared cats, not at all. He had met many in his life and they never seemed like anything particularly threatening. Small, soft, sometimes a little annoying, that was about it. But the gigantic furry monster which his boyfriend adopted was an entirely different story. Like he said, he didn't fear cats, but this was no cat in his eyes.
When he first met her, she was just laying there, stretched across the sofa. Using up all her length to take up as much of it as possible, acting as if it belonged to her. It honestly looked to him as if she believed that the whole apartment was actually hers and not Mingjue´s.
He would just stand there in the doorway for a while, staring at her before he gained confidence to approach her, come closer. But his bravery quickly ran out as she turned her head around, giving him a glance. It was by no means a mean one, she just looked at him kinda bored, sleepy, but to A-Yao it was a one of immense dislike. Not to mention that when she yawned and showed him her sharp teeth, he felt like she could swallow him in two bites if she tried.
More than once Mingjue tried to make him believe that Baxia was nothing but an overgrown baby and that he didn't need to fear her. But he had a hard time believing it… Well if his boyfriend was holding her, she looked much less threatening, much smaller. He would maybe reconsider, but for that Mingjue would have to not put her down and make the illusion of smallness disappear. Always leaving Jin Guangyao standing in front of a fuzzy giant, making him think how it would probably be impossible for him to move if she laid on him.
Of the cats he met in his life none was ever this massive. But then again, his boyfriend was no little man either, so it was only fitting his pet was this size.
He had to give Baxia one thing though, she was definitely the fluffiest one he has ever seen. And okay, if she was asleep, not looking at him like she wanted to eat him, she could be kinda cute. But he still wouldn't dare to come within her paws reach.
It took a long time, but eventually the two became friends. It was a complicated process, but they got there. The fact that in order to not be eaten, A-Yao always brought in some treats for Baxia definitely helped. It made the cat grow very fond of him. Becoming cuddly and affectionate as a result, rubbing up against him, showing she really was nothing but a gentle soul. What also made Jin Guangyao start approaching her more, was jealousy in a way. Baxia often hogged his boyfriend´s attention and he didn't want to just stand there on the side awkwardly while the two snuggled.
He first started by carefully petting her when Mingjue held her, feeling much safer that way. Then if the two were together on the sofa, he would join them, getting used to having the cat so close to himself. It went on like this until he was able to pet her without his love being near, not scared of having his hand bitten off anymore.
And at the end of the day, A-Yao was even able to fall asleep with Baxia curled up on his lap. Though he was right about one thing. Getting up, if she laid on him, was indeed absolutely impossible.
