Work Text:

Hi. I don't usually post shit like this often, especially on a place like AO3, but I felt as though it was the best way to reach people in the fandom since most of my social media is pretty small.

Please, for the love of God, do NOT play the Vs. Uoy mod that came out recently on Gamebanana. I'm being dead serious about this. This mod is probably some of the most unsettling shit I've ever had the displeasure of laying my eyes on and actually put my computer at risk-- BIG TIME. Lemme explain how my day went thanks to this.

So yesterday I was on Gamebanana looking for new mods to try out. I had been out of the swing of things for the game for some time since I got caught up with other stuff in my life. I was pretty active in the fandom for some time until the Matt and Shaggy crossover mod happened, which is where I sorta dropped off the steam train for the game. It wasn't until recently did I decide to get back into the game when I saw a new mod showcase pop up on my youtube recommendation. That basically reignited my ambition for the game and so I went to Gamebanana to check everything out.

The scene had changed a lot from when I last saw it. A lot of new mechanics in the game that absolutely boggled my mind and I was pretty intimidated by (like what the hell is even going on in the Hypno's Lullaby mod? That shit looks hard as fuck!), so I wanted something simple before I got into anything crazy. Y'know, a warm-up. So I decided to look at the less popular mods since those are usually much easier than the more popular ones. After some browsing, I finally came across a mod that looked... interesting.

It was called "Vs. Uoy"

The mod that was buried underneath everything else and was just freshly added to the website a day before. Despite the fact that it was so new, it had tons of downloads and tons of positive feedback. More than a mod this new should've reasonably had. This honestly should've been a red flag for me but I just brushed it off for some reason. It was almost as if my curiosity for this mod had numbed out any sort of suspicion I had for it.

The layout of the page for Vs. Uoy was pretty sparse. There wasn't a lot of information on what the mod was about or who was involved in making it, which to be fair I should've expected with smaller mods. The only person that was even labeled as a part of the moderator team was someone by the name of "sathanas_owo". An odd choice for a username but who was I to judge? When I was younger on the internet I had set my email to "pokefanfluttershy7869". Anyways.

There was another thing about this mod that was also pretty strange. Usually, there's at least some showing of who your opponent is-- like a preview of what they look like, maybe even some footage with all their animations to one of the songs. But there wasn't anything showing who this "Uoy" was. All that was there was just a picture of Boyfriend against the background of the stage from week one and a transparent picture of the placeholder health icon (the gray one with the Xs over its eyes).

So I downloaded it. It took a pretty long time for me to extract the whole thing on my computer so I went out to get lunch and when I got back it was done. The mod file was named "yetzerhara", which was another red flag I ignored for some reason. Most of the time for mod files it's like the name of the character or the mod. I had no clue what "yetzerhara" was and just assumed it was just a keysmash name for the file (I'm equally guilty of doing that. I draw and I have like multiple files named "ksdjghalksjd". Seriously). After throwing the mod files into the designated mod folder for FNF and started up the game.

Not even a moment into starting up the file I heard a soft knock on my door which immediately caught my attention. To clarify, I have no pets nor do I live with anyone. It spooked me a bit but I remembered that, hey, I live in an apartment, it's probably just rats in the wall or something. Nothing too big to worry about. God was I so wrong. After sitting on a black loading screen for like a minute or so, the game finally started up and I heard that familiar menu music. I had missed it so much, in fact, that it brought a stupid little smile to my face. However, as if the oddities I've seen earlier weren't enough, there were many more that started showing up as I traversed the menu. And, yes, just like before I ignored all of it.

First off, Girlfriend was nowhere to be found. She wasn't on the title screen and she wasn't there when I played the tutorial song (I wanted to re-familiarize myself with the mechanics of the game so I played the tutorial once or twice.). Her voice was even gone from the tutorial, instead just leaving awkward segments of the instrumentals where her voice should've been. It was like she had been completely removed from the game. Once I was done with the tutorial I moved my attention towards playing the actual content of the mod. There was only one week in the selection screen. It was called "Week **********" and it was in comic sans font and Daddy Dearest's idle animation stood next to Boyfriend's (kind of like week one). There was only one song and it was called "uoy". Not knowing what to expect, I started up the week.

The cutscene opened up and Boopeeboo started playing. It was just the hard version of week one's first song. I was rightfully disappointed, thinking I had just downloaded some weird build of the game that some 12-year-old probably no modding experience uploaded to Gamebanana just for the bragging rights of having a mod. I was really tempted to just exit out of the game and stop playing there, but I humored myself and this 12-year-old FNF fan that I had imagined and continued with the song. The song ended as it did in the original game and then... silence.

Daddy Dearest and Boyfriend were just standing there. The silence was weirdly long. I sat there for two minutes before I tried pulling up the pause menu. I would be able to exit out of the week that way but the game refused to pull it up. Then I tried to exit out of fullscreen mode but even that didn't work. I was starting to get annoyed; the game had definitely softlocked on me. I figured I would just restart my computer and trash the mod but, as I was going to press the off button, a textbox popped up.

It was an empty textbox. Just pure white with no text, even if the text sound effect was playing. It would play in random patterns and I just watched, confused and starting to get put off by it. My fear would go from zero to a thousand as, from behind the textbox, Boyfriend slowly turned his head towards me, still keeping that signature smirk on his face. His body didn't even move, it was just his head. I was mortified and immediately pressed the off button on my computer-- NO way in hell did I sign up for a horror mod. But just like my attempts before, it didn't work. I tried pressing and holding the power button. Still nothing. I was stuck.

In that moment when I was trying to turn my computer off, my eyes left the game for a split second and, when I looked back, I nearly shat my pants. Boyfriend's eyes were horribly realistic. Big, bulging cutouts of a person's eyes, and they just continued to stare at me. I had no idea what to do. I couldn't speak, I couldn't move, I was incredibly uncomfortable.

Then I heard a knock at my door again. An aggressive and demanding knock. I was so scared to look behind me but I hesitantly did. Thankfully, no one was there, but I immediately ran to lock it. When I looked back at my monitor, some text began appearing within the textbox.

"Let me in."

The textbox stayed there as I tried to process what I had gotten myself into. There was no way that this could've been happening. This was only shit you heard about in creepypastas like Ben Drowned and NES Godzilla. There was no way this could've been happening to me.

"LET ME IN."

The text had changed itself and I backed away from my computer, my back inches away from the door until I heard violent banging from the other side of my door. I was starting to panic. That was when I watched as Boyfriend approached closer, setting himself at the center of the screen, still behind the textbox. His eyes had become more bloodshot and his mouth was replaced, just like his eyes, with a hyperrealistic smile. The creepiest fucking smile I had ever seen.

"LETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEINLETMEIN"

Then the scene of the mod had changed. The textbox stayed as the scene faded to black and it read out something new.

"If you beat me, I'll let you go. Do we have a deal?"

This was followed by a yes or no option in the textbox. I hesitantly went back to my computer chair and sat down. My fingers hovered over the left and right buttons on my keyboard, trying to weigh my options here. I had no idea what was even happening or even why it was happening. But... if I wanted to get myself out of this as quickly as possible, I needed to play this thing's game.

I chose the "yes" option and hit enter. The textbox disappeared. I waited on a black screen for what felt like forever until, finally, some text appeared. It read "Vs. You".

The background remained black as a hyperrealistic Boyfriend appeared on the screen. It was disgusting. The "music" starts as a collection of loud screams as Boyfriend stares at me with those bloodshot eyes. Then the actual track began. It was intense heavy metal and a barrage of notes just sped towards my arrows. It was so quick that I missed a good chunk but no movement came to the judgment line. Instead, I began feeling sharp pains in my chest with every missed note I got. Each time I missed, the pain became more agonizing. It was like a knife was stabbing into my heart and killing me from the inside out.

The message was clear. Miss and this unknown pain would probably kill me.

All the while, Boyfriend just stared. It was his method of torturing me, his smile seeming to grow each time I missed something, which happened much more often as the tempo of the heavy metal song pick up the pace by a couple of dangerous notches. It was becoming harder and harder to read the chart as it hit me with everything. Stairs, jacks, doubles, triples, even horribly short hold notes. This was a test of not only my skill but my will to live. I had to do this-- I had to beat this guy at his own game. My fingers were in immense pain, but the song kept going. Once everything was said and done, I'd say it was around 15 minutes until it finally ended.

As it stopped, the silence returned to my ears. I thought I was out, but it wasn't over with yet. That bastard had one last test up his sleeve. After a minute of silence, chanting began to fade in. I heard a chorus of unknown voices shouting "SOUL" over and over again. It grew louder and louder until it came to a crashing halt. Boyfriend's model disappeared into the blackness. There was no more chanting.

"Run as fast as your little legs can run."

I was suddenly dropped into a dark, 3-D space. The walls were the same pattern of curtain as the week one background. Confused, I pressed my arrow keys. In response, the first-person camera moved. I soon realized that I was playing a game within the game and that I needed to probably find the in-game exit before this creepy Boyfriend found me. So, I got to work, walking through the seemingly endless labyrinth, having no clue as to where the exit could be. It was all so dark. Occasionally, I would hear the cultic chanting again or a knock at my door. I ignored all of that. I just wanted to be done with. I just wanted it all to stop.

It took me 30 minutes to find the hallway leading to the exit. As the camera walked towards the door, I could hear the sound of footsteps starting to rattle behind me in the game. It would grow louder and faster as I headed towards the door, the all too familiar chanting of "SOUL, SOUL, SOUL" growing in volume, coupled with the monstrously violent banging at my door. My heart was pounding out of my chest. I begged and prayed for my character to run faster so that thing wouldn't get me.

I reached the door. The game closed.

It was quiet.

After the whole experience was said and done, I went into my files and deleted the game as fast as I could before shutting off my computer. It was the worst shit that I've been through and because of it, I'm never touching another FNF mod or piece of content ever again. Deadass. Even now, I can still hear that fucking chanting and I can still remember what that hyperrealistic Boyfriend looked like. Actually, I don't think I'm going to ever really forget this. This shit is never going to leave me and all because of that fucking mod on Gamebanana.

So, to whoever is reading this, PLEASE DON'T FUCKING DOWNLOAD VS. UOY. DON'T DO IT. I'M BEGGING YOU.
