   Tom grimaced; he was never good at emotional discussions, and dying clearly hadn’t changed that. No famous last words for him, it seemed.

   “Could you have loved me, you know, in another life?” Tom asked, figuring that there was nothing to lose now.

   “I loved you in this one,” Scho replied, and Tom stared at him in shock, a thousand missed opportunities floating before his eyes.

   “Bloody hell…” his eyes fluttered closed for a moment; the effort of keeping them open was too much.
