Quietly, she tip-toed down the steps into the basement, where her husband was working.
“She’s asleep. At long last” the woman whispered.
Jethro smiled. Bedtime has suddenly become a brand-new battle ground for the toddler, who had clearly inherited some of his stubbornness.
“That’s great,” he replied in a hushed tone
“I think she’s finally getting used to her new bed,” she continued to whisper, eliciting an amused look from her husband.
“What?” she asked, her voice still quiet.
“Sweetheart, why are we whispering?”
“Because we don’t want to wake our daughter up.”
“We’re 2 floors below her bedroom. I think we’ll be ok,” he said, at normal volume, shaking his head in amusement.
His jollity was short lived when he heard the unmistakeable sound of his daughter calling him.
“Daddddddy,” the tot whimpered from the top of the stairs.
He looked to his wife, who was giving him her best ‘told-you-so’ look. He put his tools down, knowing that he had lost this argument.
“Stay there, Princess. Let’s get you back to bed,” he whispered, gently climbing the wooden stairs towards his little girl.
