"Turning it, Rey admired the way light gleamed off the edges, and especially how the red bit wasn’t quite opaque, seeming to have flecks of something or other suspended inside. She’d never seen anything quite like it. If she was lucky, and of the mind, she might be able to sell it as a curiosity. Or perhaps trade for another warm blanket in advance of winter. Or, she sighed again, her fingers curling around the while letting letting herself fall backwards against the damp ground, the others in the village would more likely decide it was the work of some devil.
“I want to go somewhere I belong,” Rey murmured, giving into a ridiculous whim and closing her eyes. She would have to go soon, the cold was seeping into her body and it would take forever for her clothes to dry before the fire. Her stocking likely wouldn’t even be dry by the morning, and yet it felt so trivial. As though she were exactly where she was meant to be, for once.
