Chapter Text

Moondrop and Sundrop were very different animatronics, in very many ways.

For example, Moon had always walked around with a straight posture, his head kept down whenst keeping an eye on dozens of young, sleeping children. On the other hand, Sun would always be hunched over, entertaining young children much shorter than he was.

Sun was loud, boisterous and bursting with energy at every second. Whenever he started talking it would take ages for him to be quiet again, though of course young, energetic children loved that. Moon was much more polite, well, so was Sundrop, though he could tend to get a bit eccentric sometimes. Moon was much more quiet, his voice hushed and he himself was always calm. Children always seemed to subconsciously copy his body language, which was perfect when winding down after a long day of playing, ready for naptime.

Though, the two were also very the same. Despite his calm and carefree attitude, Moondrop was quite strict on rules, always enforcing the Plaza and Daycare rules, giving punishments when necessary. Sundrop, on the contrary, did enforce the rules, though when it came to punishments, he always let the children off with a caution, warning them not to do it again, which in most cases they did not.

The two were created to be opposites. To look after dozens of children in a day yet still make every one of them feel heard and appreciated. The two were not supposed to be aware of one another. Perhaps the parts and service workers did not notice, or simply did not bother to fix it anymore. The two shared a consciousness, one would front whilst the other would watch, they were even able to communicate with eachother in their thoughts. They did everything together, and they never got bored of one another. Perhaps not being consistently lonely, and having eachother was what kept both sane.

Sundrop was very friendly amongst everyone. The animatronic was always eager to make new friends, remembering every single detail about every new friend they made, whether it be their name, age - or even something as minor as their favourite colour.

Moondrop was much more reserved. He bonded well with the children. His soft personality made him easy to get along with, giving the children the utmost sense of comfort they all deserve. He would be holding them close and singing them a lullaby were they to suffer a nightmare, and read every child a collective bedtime story, watching smiles light up the dark room. He would pace around the room quietly, his eyes illuminating up the room and keeping the children safe, letting them rest in peace.

The two couldn't function without eachother, they simply couldn't. Moondrop was far to tranquil and calm to have a proper playtime, and Sundrop much too loud and boisterous to let the children sleep in peace. The two loved eachother's presence, even going as far to call eachother brothers. Brothers in arms to keep young children happy, to keep young children safe from any outside danger, and to let them know everything would be okay, because it always would.

The two loved their jobs, and they loved each other.

"I love you~" Sundrop stood in place for once, simply wrapping his own arms around his one body, making sure Moon heard his show of affection.

"I love you too, Sunny," Moon's voice was always quiet, a near whisper. After all, that's how he had been programmed. His voice was soft and silky, just as his personality.

"No, really, I love you-" His voiced seemed to be even higher than it usually was, Sundrop nearly melting at his own gesture of affection. "The kids love you so, I see the way they smile after they wake up, and I see the disappointment in their eyes when they realise the lights are on again."

Moondrop sighed, or at least something that resembled it, "Oh, Sunny. The young children adore you. You think I don't see the smiles on their faces whilst they fall asleep? They think of you. They love it when you play with them."

Despite the smile on his face, Sundrop looked sad, a melancholy atmosphere over the room as he slowly started going around the room, picking up any toys and tidying any mess he had missed out on earlier.

"Little Sandra was so happy when she came in the other day," Sundrop started talking, "Her mom had allowed her to buy a plushie, it was one themed of you,"

"She loved it so much, she had shown it to me. Though she had to leave before naptime. She didn't get the chance to show you," He continued, letting the warm feeling settle in his chest as he continued to clean the room, checking every nook and cranny.

"Ah, I do remember Miss Sandra. She was very happy, I do wish she would have stayed longer that day," Moon added, remembering the small young girl, her bright blonde hair and green eyes, completely over shadowed by the bright smile she always had on her face.

"I wish I could see you," Sundrop started, "I've seen the giant sculpture of us, together, why can't we be like that?" He put emphasis on the word 'together'.

"But you have seen me?" Moondrop asked confused.

"No, silly~" He laughed dryly, if that was even possible, "I want to see you myself. I want to give you a giant hug and never let go-" His tone got sadder, yet he still seemed as excited as a young child.

"I do wish for that as well, Sunshine." Moon answered, "I suppose it is just the way we are built-"

"But why?" The sun interrupted, approaching a large mirror in the back of the room, looking straight at his own reflection.

"Some questions just can't be answered, I'm sorry," He said sadly, his voice despondent and apologetic.

"It-It's not your fault, don't b-be sorry, Moony." His voice glitched as he stared into the mirror.

Sundrop stayed in front of the mirror for two more minutes before silently walking away.

"Such a mess!" Sundrop turned to the daycare, distracting himself with all the mess that had yet to be cleaned. Of course, the children had helped him at the end of the day, before they were picked up by their parents, but it was never enough with how large the daycare was.

"Sunny, it's the dead of night, please, allow me to clean," The other whispered as Sundrop stopped in his tracks.

The sun hesitated as he hovered above the light switch. "Are you sure? I can totally manage all this, and-"

"Stop talking," With those words, the lights were off.

Moondrop opened his eyes, looking around the room.

Sun said nothing more as he silently cleaned the room, allowing the silence to settle over both of them.

"I love you, please don't ever forget that." Sundrop said quietly, a distraught tone in his voice.

"Remember that I love you as well, my dear Sunshine." The latter replied, a soothing sweetness in his voice.
