Work Text:
Staring up at the stars above them, Adrien and Marinette snuggle into each other, laying on her balcony lounge chair.
There are thousands upon thousands of stars above, each twinkling with their own unique intensity.
It’s like staring out across the whole of Paris late at night, watching the thousands of lights, from houses or lamps and other sources, glitter in the darkness.
But this is a thousand times better.
At least, that’s what Marinette thinks.
Sure, she’s seen all these stars before. Countless times. But there are countless stars, so each time she stares up at the stars it’s a different map of impossibilities.
Plus, being with her boyfriend makes everything so much better.
Marinette sighs, content, and snuggles up further into Adrien, wrapping herself around him because it is *apparently* not possible to merge with someone.
“The stars are so beautiful tonight.” She says, not looking at him. Knowing him, he’ll say something cheesy like ‘but not as beautiful as you.’
She’ll never admit it to him, but she likes the cheesy lines. It makes her feel… at ease.
It makes her feel like she’s seen, and wanted.
Adrien nuzzles his nose into the side of her head, pressing a kiss to her cheek.
“They’re just giant balls of gas, Love.” He says with a hint of a tease in his tone.
“You know what-” Marinette pulls back from him, ignoring the way his eyes beg her to come back to him.
“They are gigantic balls of mostly hydrogen in a constant state of fusion, held in a delicate balance of wanting to expand and release all their energy, and wanting to collapse in on itself from the sheer force of gravity? Yes, I would agree!” Adrien says cheekily, leaning close to her, a shit eating grin spreading his lips apart.
Marinette raises her eyebrows, standing up and turning toward the hatch to her room, ready to put this boy in the doghouse where he belongs. “If you’re just gonna ruin this, I’m gonna go downstairs and watch Encanto by myself.”
Adrien’s grin only grows wider, reminding her of Chat when he’s on a pun roll. “And yet, none of them can compare to my love for you.”
Marinette stops dead in her tracks, her brain freezing and combusting at the exact same time, sending her body into a state of numbness the likes of which she has never felt before in her life.
She can tell that her cheeks- no, her entire face, is burning, by the way her legs wobble, as though they had turned to spaghetti.
She knew he was going to say something cheesy, and she was not disappointed, but he deceived her, made her think that he was being a smart ass, and then hit her with the cheese.
Just like sour candy.
So. Very. Deceitful.
Slowly, Adrien’s arms snake around her waist, resting on her hips as he hugs her from behind. “You good? You seem to be staring into space.”
Instantly, her mood shatters, she throws her head back with a loud groan, almost knocking the back of her head into Adrien’s nose.
It would have served him right.
Adrien cackles, letting go of her to slip around her, open the hatch to her room, and slip inside before she has a chance to react further.
“I, you-” Marinette stumbles over her words, still fighting against her urge to melt into a puddle, launching after her boyfriend. “Get back here you!” She shrieks.
