Chapter 1: Carry Me Home

Chapter Text

Tw:// mentions of sexual assault, cursing

After attending one himself, Sokka concludes that Ember Island is home to the most raging parties in all four nations. His friends went home hours ago, and it's finally time for him to retire as well. On his way out, he sees a familiar face passed out on a couch. Long and tangled hair is in her face and she snores. A boy with a dumb grin on his pokes her body and laughs.

"How long do you guys think I have?" he asks, laughing.

"Depends, what do want to do?" his friend asks.

"Her," he says. The boys around him erupt into a fit of laughter.

"I wouldn't do that," his friend says. "I heard the princess is crazy."

"Yeah, crazy in bed," he says.

"Leave her alone," Sokka says.

"What, she your girlfriend or something?"

"No."

"So why the fuck are you speaking to us?" the boy asks.

"I think he wants her for himself," his friend says. Sokka swallows his own bile. He and Azula don't get along. He doesn't believe they ever will. But she still deserves to be safe. This is his best friend's little sister. Zuko would never forgive him if he knew Sokka allowed her to be in danger.

"Just leave her alone," Sokka says. "You guys don't want to do this." He feels a hard knuckle to his face.

"Get out of here," the boys say.

"Not without her," Sokka replies. He takes the both of them down easily, then slings Azula over his shoulder.

He takes her to her bedroom that she shares with Ty Lee, and sets her down, removing her jewelry and anything else that might make her uncomfortable but her clothes. As he tucks her in, amber eyes open in the dark.

"Shhh, hey," he whispers. "You're safe."

"How do I know you didn't do something to me?" she whispers.

"I didn't. Promise." The air between them is silent and heavy for a moment. Then she cups his face and kisses his nose.

"I believe you."
