Work Text:
Falling for Jisung and falling from heaven, much to Hyunjin's surprise, were quite similar. Both things had happened at a sickening speed, leaving him breathless. On both occasions, he had been scared shitless. But what Hyunjin knew and was thankful for was that falling for Jisung hadn't hurt nearly as much as falling from heaven did.
The blooming of his love for Jisung had taken him by surprise. He never imagined that falling from heaven would give him the ability to feel human emotions. Sure, he had felt something close to the human concept of anger. But in no way did it come close to the flimsy, exaggerated human feeling. Angel emotions were hurricanes. They had the power to destroy everything in its way and Hyunjin knew first hand what it felt like to lose everything to your own emotions.
This is why he was so taken aback when he realised just how intense his feelings for his very human roommate were. Did humans always feel this much or was the angel blood putting in its two cents in making Hyunjin lose his shit over a boy?
Sure, Hyunjin wasn't exactly the calmest of angels. The few angels he was close to always told him he had the excitement of a human child, only ten times worse. And if any angel who still had their wings knew anything about human emotions was Chan.
Chan had taken him under his wing (sometimes literally) just a few years after Hyunjin was created. At first, it was only because he was in charge of him, he had been assigned to keep Hyunjin in line since baby angels tended to be quite reckless. Hyunjin didn't fall far from said expectation. Soon enough Chan was taking care of him more like a brother than a boss, making sure no one messed with him, helping him get the opportunities he was chasing after.
It was Chan who had told him they were planning on kicking him out, it was him who had talked to his human contact (Hyunjin knew better than to push him into admitting the kind of relationship they really had) to help Hyunjin get a place to stay once he fell. So really, if there was anyone Hyunjin should be thankful for, it was Chan.
That's how he had found himself, two bleeding lines in his back, sore knees from the impact, next to a blonde boy with a constellation of freckles. If anyone looked like they could pull someone like Chan it was this boy. Felix helped him get cleaned up, washing his wounds with so much care Hyunjin had doubted if the human was actually touching him. After a few days, when his wounds were healed enough that he could wear a shirt, Felix introduced him to Jisung, with whom he'd be staying.
If Felix was pretty, Han Jisung could easily pass as an angel. And he was so kind and respectful that Hyunjin wondered about it sometimes. Never had the boy inquired him on why his back never touched the couch when he layed back, never did he mention anything about how excited he got over very normal human things like how the coffee machine worked and the way the mirror caught his reflection (Hyunjin had been worried his greying halo and the deep blue in his eyes would be visible in the mirror and was deeply relieved when he checked that they weren't.)
Despite the constant pain in his back, falling had been like being born again. He finally got to experience all the things he had watched from afar like eating popcorn at the movies or taking bubble baths. He was happy about his life on Earth and a big part of it was due to Jisung’s presence.
Jisung and him lived in a two bedroom apartment that was sort of small but cosy enough to hold them both comfortably. (And Hyunjin wouldn’t mind living in a dumpster as long as Han Jisung was by his side) The apartment didn’t really have that much space for privacy and Hyunjin had discovered how touchy he was, so in the end, the pair were always stuck together, cuddling on the couch, hips touching as they prepared breakfast, hands tangled in each other’s hair.
The hard thing about living with Jisung, besides the fact that he was deeply, madly in love with him, was hiding his scars. He was sure he was the understanding type, Felix would never set him up with someone who’d kick him out the second he found out he was a fallen angel, but still, whenever the younger stared at his eyes for too long, Hyunjin worried if he could see the unnatural blue in them. And when Jisung put his hand on his lower back, he would always tense up and all but pray that his hand wouldn’t go upwards.
His wounds were healing well, slower due to the human conditions, but still good enough that he didn’t really worry about them too much. But still, he was cautious not to be shirtless, even when the weather was so hot he felt like he was melting. He even got dressed in the bathroom after showering so that Jisung wouldn’t see the god-awful scars ruining his back.
To be honest, it was only a matter of time before it happened, they lived together and spent most of their free time in the same house. One of them was bound to walk in when the other was changing at some point. Hyunjin had silently prayed it wasn't him getting walked in on. But god had long proven he didn’t care about his concerns, so Hyunjin shouldn’t have been surprised when Jisung opened the door just as he finished taking his shirt off, back facing the door.
“Holy shit, are you okay?” was the first thing Jisung had said after he’d seen the pair of scars that Hyunjin had been so carefully hiding all this time.
He quickly turned around to face the guy, in an attempt to hide the only visible proof that he wasn't human from his roommate. Even if there wasn't any trace of negative emotions on Jisung's face, Hyunjin felt his heart drop as he watched a pair of brown eyes blinking quickly as he tried to wrap his brain around what he had just seen.
“Yeah, why do you ask?” he said after clearing his throat. He was surprised at how calm he had sounded when his mind was going insane trying to work out how he was going to find a new roommate. Maybe Felix knew of another nice human who'd allow him in his house.
“Your back…” Jisung’s jaw was about to reach the floor. Hyunjin could see the way his brain worked to find a logical answer. If he wasn’t so terrified right now, he would find it absolutely adorable.
Hyunjin quickly grabbed the shirt he had just discarded and put it back on. He wasn’t self-conscious of his body. He had been told multiple times how gorgeous he was, although it was probably just an angel thing. But Jisung, eyeing his chest just after he caught the one thing he was trying to hide from him was too much for Hyunjin right now.
“Are you…” Jisung paused to rethink his words “Felix told me about this boy he likes, he said he couldn’t tell me much about him but that he was a literal angel.” Hyunjin bit back a snort. The compliment actually suited Chan, who was by far the kindest in his species. “Was he being serious? Are angels real?”
Hyunjin considered his next words carefully. While he was a fallen angel, he could pretty much do what he wanted and tell who he wanted, but that did not apply to angels who still had their wings. Just the fact that Chan had told Felix was a huge risk, he couldn’t just confirm that his best friend was an angel too.
“Angels are very real,” he started, slowly “I am one. Used to be, I guess. Hence the lack of wings” he pointed at his back, shrugging as if it didn’t mean a thing. As if he wasn’t dying inside.
“I need to sit down,” Jisung whispered. Hyunjin was quick to gently guide him to sit down on his bed. He sat beside him, leaving a bigger distance than usual, so as to not overwhelm the younger, even though his hand ached to grab his for comfort.
They stayed in silence for a few minutes, Jisung fiddling with his fingers, Hyunjin looking at his side profile. This was not the time to get sappy, he was very aware of it, but his roommate really did have the most beautiful face he had ever seen. Beauty in heaven was different, more superficial. Sometimes, it came accompanied by a pretty personality too. But in Hyunjin’s twenty years of life, he had only seen that once.
Han Jisung was beautiful in an almost artistic way, in a warm, comforting way. He was beautiful like taking a sip of a caramel latte on a cold morning or opening a new canvas. His beauty told you everything was going to be okay. It made you feel as though you were loved.
Jisung was beautiful in the most surprising of ways, his brown eyes made Hyunjin want to get lost in them, melt inside them. He was beautiful in an almost painful way too, but the good kind of pain, like stretching after a good workout or taking a hot shower in winter. His smile was the loveliest of ones, that not even Chan’s dimpled, soft smile or Felix’s enchanting one could compete with. No one compared to Han Jisung.
Han Jisung who was now staring back at Hyunjin.
“Why don’t you have wings anymore?” Jisung asked in a voice barely above a whisper. He sounded shy to ask this, as if he was scared to offend him.
“Ripping wings out is a way of punishing someone,” he said. He instantly felt bad for his choice of words when he saw Jisung wince. “I guess I had it coming.” Hyunjin laughed bitterly.
Jisung looked like he wanted an explanation, but Hyunjin didn’t feel like ruining his roommates' entire earthly experience, which would definitely happen if he knew about how Hyunjin had gotten himself kicked out, so he stayed quiet.
“Did it hurt?”
“When I fell from heaven?” They laughed and the tension seemed to leave the air for a few seconds. “Not really. Wing extractions can be pretty painful if its not done with anaesthesia or if the one doing it is not careful. And considering how mad I made everyone, I guess they couldn't care enough to give me that kind of treatment. Wings are kind of like limbs, so imagine.” Jisung winced again.
He opened his mouth to say something else but hesitated. “Can I see the scars?”
“I have a halo I could show you,” he avoided the question swiftly. Jisung probably noticed, but he was kind enough not to say anything about it. "Also my eyes are actually blue.”
Jisung nodded so quickly Hyunjin was scared he’d get dizzy. But there was already a smile forming on his lovely face so he closed his eyes and willed his halo to appear. He knew it wasn’t the prettiest, the longer he stayed away from using his angel abilities the more it faded, but the tiny gasp he heard coming out of his friend’s mouth gave him enough confidence to open his eyes, which were now the deep blue they had always been.
“You’re stunning, Hyunnie” he said in such a natural manner it almost seemed like he had been just thinking out loud.
He smiled at him brightly, comforted that he had not been kicked out of the apartment yet. He could feel his heart warming up. A big part of an angel's beauty were their wings and halo, and Hyunjin had not only lost his wings but his halo had started to fade once he had gotten to earth. Which made it kind of hard for him to not feel self conscious. He knew Jisung wasn't aware of this, but showing your halo when it wasn't anything but perfectly pristine, was a very intimate act between angels. The thought made his blood rush to his cheeks.
From then on, Hyunjin stopped hiding so much. Sure, he was still not ready to let the man he was in love with see the awful scars on his back, but he didn’t hide his eyes anymore. His halo was a different story, but sometimes Jisung would ask to see it and Hyunjin would comply with blushy cheeks.
Slowly, he started showing him things he could do, like that one time he did push-ups with his roommate's entire body on top of him. Or when he worked his charms to get a discount at the ice cream shop. And Jisung’s responses were so positive that he started to lose all the fear he had gained once he had stepped foot in the apartment. It felt nice to not need to hide anymore, to finally allow himself to be free. If he ever wanted anyone to see him for who he was, it was Han Jisung.
He had also noticed that Jisung’s eyes were always stuck on him lately. Even when he had no reason to look at him, Jisung did. A tiny part of him, which was probably the arrogant angel part, made him think that maybe it meant he had a chance. But a more rational part of his brain had realised it was probably him trying to come to terms with the fact that his roommate used to live in heaven.
Jisung and Felix’s birthday came around and with it, another chance to meet humans. Hyunjin had been acquainted with a few of them, mostly Minho, Jisung's self-proclaimed soulmate, who would show up in their apartment randomly.
It had taken long weeks of tiptoeing around each other for Hyunjin to finally feel comfortable around him, even if he could tell the human had no ill intentions. But Minho was just as patient as Jisung and he had waited for the wary angel to open up to him.
Still, Jisung and Felix’s birthday party was making him rather anxious. Not only was he going to meet other humans, but he also had to take the precautions he had stopped taking around Jisung. And then there was the problem of clothing.
After receiving his first paycheck from working at an art supply store, he had gotten himself quite a few pieces of clothing he had liked. But Jisung had told him they were too formal for a birthday party. So what the hell was he going to wear?
He was excited for this internal turmoil of his in the angel living a human life for the first time kind of way. He had watched from afar how men and women alike struggled to find something to wear, but he had never experienced said struggle himself. Another human experience to add to his list.
That's how he had found himself getting dragged around a packed mall by Felix, who seemed to have a similar sense of style as him (although Hyunjin's preppy style came from the high standards heaven set for his residents and not necessarily from choice). The tiny human seemed to be very excited at the opportunity to hang out with him, which made him feel warmth in his heart.
Choosing clothes to buy was, Hyunjin was learning, a very difficult process. Felix had told him that it was only hard because Hyunjin didn't know what he wanted to wear in the first place. But it wasn’t his fault if the angel had no idea what was the standard etiquette for human birthday parties.
"There's no etiquette! Don't worry too much" Felix had reassured him as he dragged him into another store. They roamed around. From time to time, Felix would raise a piece of clothing he deemed birthday appropriate but Hyunjin hadn't liked anything thus far.
That is until he saw the perfect blue turtleneck. He extended a hand and gasped as he felt the soft texture of it. Felix looked at it for a few seconds before nodding.
"You could wear it with ripped jeans," he suggested. Hyunjin must've made a face because Felix laughed "I know they're uncomfortable, Jinnie. Maybe we can get you some cotton ones, those are better if you're not used to the denim texture."
They ended up buying the sweater, and the jeans. Regardless of how stressful buying two pieces of clothing had been, he ended up enjoying himself, mostly because he got to buy the turtleneck.
Despite the party taking place in Felix’s house, said boy offered to help Hyunjin get dressed, which ended up an entirely new experience for the angel who had never had anyone do his make up before. Felix rambled happily about how glad he was that Hyunjin and him were getting closer and how much happier Jisung looked now that he had company in the house.
They kept it rather simple on jewellery as well, since Hyunjin didn't have his ears pierced (Felix promised to take him to get them done soon after seeing the angel's saddened face when he saw Felix could wear them and he couldn't). He did wear rings, all of them Felix’s.
The pair had just finished getting ready when the first guest arrived. Felix looked at the balcony where Chan was standing, two gift bags in hand and his characteristic dimpled smile. Hyunjin smiled too.
After Felix was done saying hi to him in a way that did not seem very we're-just-really-good-friends at all, it was Hyunjin's turn, who engulfed him in a hug that would turn a human's bones into dust. Chan chuckled.
"Hi, Jinnie, I missed you too," he said, Hyunjin could feel his smile in his voice and hid his on his friend's shoulder. Chan caressed his hair, careful not to mess it up.
"Hyung, you never told me you were coming!" he complained once he realised he hadn't heard from him at all. He didn't actually expect him to reach out to Hyunjin, especially given the circumstances surrounding his expulsion, but a part of him was actually sad he hadn't heard his friend's voice in such a long time.
Chan gave him a sheepish smile. "He didn't let me contact you at all. In fact, I'm lucky I'm even allowed to be here, after he found out I had gotten you a human contact he threw the biggest fit." Chan wasn't one to complain or question direct orders, which is why Hyunjin was so surprised to see him rolling his eyes.
"Did I get you in trouble too?" Hyunjin bit the inside of his cheek. "I'm really sorry, hyung. You know it wasn't my intention to."
Chan separated them and grabbed the fallen angel's shoulders, making sure he was looking at him as he spoke. "You know none of this is your fault, right?"
Hyunjin wasn't one to lie. He really wasn't, he hadn't been able to even when his wings depended on it. But how could he tell his hyung, his best friend, his rock, that he was constantly blaming himself for the way things had happened? He just couldn't.
"I know you don't believe that, but it really wasn't. He was at fault, I'm sure you know that much," Chan said once he sensed his friend wasn't going to answer.
"I had my fair share of mistakes too," he retorted.
"Everyone makes mistakes, Jinnie, and the ones you made, were not actually severe enough to deserve getting expelled from home."
Home. How long had it been since Hyunjin had considered the place he had been born in, in such a way? In a warm, comforting way? Even before his expulsion he felt disconnected from the place. A lot of it had to do with the angels he had to spend his time with, but most of it was the stuck-up, overly fancy atmosphere each room and resident had. There was absolutely nothing homey about it. But it was still Chan’s home.
"I have a human roommate," Hyunjin said. The topic of home had inevitably brought his mind to Jisung. Chan, ever so in sync with his friend's mind, smiled brightly.
"I see," was all that he said. They didn't need to say anything else.
Felix, bless his soul, had been waiting in a different room, trying to give the two angels some space to catch up. They finally left the balcony they were talking in once they heard the bell ring and the sound of many different voices walking in. None of them were Jisung's but Hyunjin did recognize Minho's.
They walked out of Felix's room, closing the door behind them. As the guests said hi to them, Hyunjin felt Chan tense up next to him. He gave him a look, one eye shining for a millisecond before turning back around and continuing to greet the guests.
As a guy named Seungmin walked closer to them, Hyunjin felt a shiver run through his spine. Ah. So this is who had Chan reacting that way. The brunette avoided shaking Chan’s hand but he did shake Hyunjin's, who would've missed the slight red undertones in his eyes if he hadn't been looking at him so attentively. He squinted.
The angels shared another look, but neither said anything. Most of the guests were in Felix’s place before Jisung rang the bell. Hyunjin had heard his footsteps coming closer to the door and elbowed Chan just a second before Felix opened the door and Hyunjin lost his fucking marbles.
Jisung was wearing a pink hoodie, looking just as comfy as he always did. The rest of his outfit consisted of jeans and platform boots, Felix did say the party was pretty casual. But the cherry on top was the way he had styled his hair, which came out of the black beanie he was wearing. He looked absolutely delectable and Hyunjin never felt more in love in his life.
Chan laughed next to him, "I can feel your heart racing. I have never seen you like this, not even-," he cut himself off before finishing the sentence and Hyunjin was in too much of a good mood to allow himself to be affected by such a mention. Chan shot him an apologetic look and Hyunjin shrugged as if to say it didn't matter.
The birthday boy was standing in front of them before Hyunjin had had the time to collect himself. He gave him a hug, and he was sure Chan didn't miss the way Jisung went for his waist, careful not to touch his back. He didn't say anything when he was introduced to Jisung, but he did raise an eyebrow once the human had turned around to say hi to his other friends.
The last guest showed up and it had shivers running through both the angel's spine as they saw him. They exchanged another look that meant they would talk about this later, but they both greeted the short boy who Jisung introduced as Changbin. None of them extended a hand, not even Hyunjin who had shaken Seungmin's before.
If there was anything humans knew how to do, it was throwing a party. Once all the guests had arrived and the music had started, Hyunjin found himself struggling to collect his thoughts that were constantly intertwining themselves, forming balls of chaos that Hyunjin just could not untangle. How did humans think with all this music and alcohol? How were they able to hold a conversation with each other?
He looked for Chan, who was sitting next to a very cuddly Felix, drink in hand and a big, whipped smile on his face. He didn't seem to be having as much trouble as Hyunjin was. Maybe he was used to parties.
Jisung found him just as Hyunjin was escaping to the balcony in Felix's bedroom. He joined him outside, taking a seat in one of the little chairs the human had set outside. Hyunjin sat down too.
"Are you having fun?" he asked him. Hyunjin nodded, unable to make out a single word. Not with his thoughts tangled like that and the bass bouncing on his ribcage. Jisung gave him a wide smile. "I know this must be pretty overwhelming, I remember I kinda wanted to die when I went to my first party."
Hyunjin's eyes opened wide and the human was quick to wave his hands around and clarify. "I didn’t literally want to die, it's just an expression." Hyunjin nodded again, relieved.
"Are you having fun?" he asked the human, although the answer seemed pretty obvious.
"Yeah! All the people I love are here, how wouldn't I?"
His chest grew warm and he gave his friend his best smile to portray just that.
His relationship with Han Jisung kept evolving beautifully, slowly deepening. One day he had found himself with Han Jisung's head resting on his lap, hands stroking his hair as the human shared his deepest concerns.
Winter came and Hyunjin had to, for the first time, ask for help with his wounds one night. It had been a particularly cold night, there was snow announced for the early morning and Hyunjin could feel it in his bones. His body was not used to such cold temperatures, so not only was he trembling, wearing ten layers of clothing but also, his wounds had gotten worse.
He took off his shirt to take a shower and as he turned around he gasped at the aspect of the two large lines on his shoulder blades. The usually red wounds had gotten a darker, almost purple shade and when he tried to touch them, it hurt just as bad as getting them had.
With a shaking voice, he had called Jisung. He had no idea how to treat wounds, normally angels wouldn't stay hurt for long enough to need treatment, but the normal conditions stopped applying once the magic from the wings was no longer on the angel's side.
His heart ached for them, he wondered where they had ended up, and if Chan had been able to get them as he had promised he would the night he told him he'd get kicked out. If Chan hadn't been able to get ahold of them, then there was probably no hope left for the two graceful wings. The thought made him sad.
Jisung knocked on the door before coming in. He stared at Hyunjin who was shirtless for the first time since the day he had walked in on him.
Hyunjin took a deep breath. "Can you help me?" he asked shyly as he turned around to reveal the state of his scars.
Jisung gasped. "Jinnie, holy shit. How long have they been like this?"
Hyunjin lowered his head. "They got worse as the weather started getting colder. You know there are no seasons in heaven? I guess you'd call what we have spring, but really, it doesn't change throughout the human year at all." He rambled to get his mind off the heavy weight of Jisungs eyes on his back.
"I don't know how to treat angel wounds, though," Jisung said after a while. Hyunjin shrugged.
"Treat them like you would a human's. It's better than nothing."
Jisung grabbed his hand with one and a health aid kit with his other one and guided the angel into his bedroom. "I think you'll be more comfortable laying down."
So Hyunjin laid down in Jisungs warm bed, chest down, head turned so he could see what the human was doing. It's not that he didn't trust Jisung, he did, really. In reality, Hyunjin was just curious. And Jisung looked beyond beautiful with his focused frown and the tip of his tongue coming out of his mouth.
Jisung carefully disinfected the wounds, and the cold burn of alcohol made Hyunjin wince. The human was so gentle with his wounds that it made Hyunjin's heart flip.
He attended to his wounds silently, apologising if he felt he had been too rough and telling him what he was doing every step of the way. He didn't know if Jisung was aware of how nerve-racking this was for him, but his care was surely making it a lot easier.
Once he was done, Jisung patted his head softly, giving him the most beautiful of smiles. Hyunjin had to bite his cheek to stop himself from saying three words he wasn't supposed to reveal just yet.
The boy started offering to take care of his wounds almost every day, now that he was aware of how badly they were hurting. It was intimate in a way that made Hyunjin’s heart beat like crazy. But whatever Jisung was doing, had actually started to work, since the state of his scars had improved and even his halo had started to glow a little bit brighter.
Christmas came around quicker than Hyunjin expected it to. Heavenly Christmas parties were ostentatious and overrated, so the angel had grown to hate them rather early in his life. The only thing that improved his mood was seeing his best friend’s smile as they raised a toast at midnight.
The holidays with Jisung and Felix were much simpler. The three boys had gathered in Jisung and Hyunjin’s apartment and put on Christmas movies (they said it was just because the angel hadn’t watched any before, but Hyunjin saw how excited they were for them). A few hours after midnight, there was a knock on the living room window. Hyunjin smiled as he made his way to where his best friend was, holding a big trunk in his left hand and bags with gifts on his right.
He opened up for Chan who gave him a hug, ruffled his hair, and gave him a big smile as he wished him merry Christmas. He then said hi to the two humans and sat down on the available armchair.
“I’ve come bearing gifts,” he said. He extended the bags to the humans, who thanked him profusely and smiled brightly as they opened them. And then, he gave Hyunjin the trunk.
Flying all the way down with such a heavy trunk must have been quite a hassle, so the angel was quick to thank him before he even touched it. When he finally did, he gasped as he felt a familiar rush in his veins.
“No fucking way.” He looked at Chan, whose smile had never been bigger.
“Yes way,” he chuckled.
Hyunjin opened the trunk with shaking hands and he felt his eyes swell up with tears as he saw two carefully closed wings sitting comfortably inside the trunk. He extended a hand to touch them and they instantly reacted to them. Next to him, he felt his human friends gasp, his chest filled with pride.
“They’re still alive?” Chan nodded “How did you do that?”
“I recovered them as soon as they threw them away. I’ve been grooming them and taking care of them ever since.” He looked like he wanted to say something else but there was something stopping him.
“What is it, hyung?”
His friend took a deep breath and motioned for them to move to a different room. “Don’t get your hopes up, but Jihyo said there could be a way to attach them again,” he said after they were sitting in Hyunjin’s bed.
Hyunjin opened his eyes wide. How would that even work? He knew human medicine was light years behind angel’s but was there really a way? After such a long time?
“She did warn me it would be just as painful as getting them ripped out, though. So it’s okay if you don’t wanna go through with it.”
“Are you kidding me? Of course I wanna do it.”
“Great, because she’s waiting outside,” his friend laughed sheepishly. Hyunjin didn’t have it in him to be mad at the rushed nature of his friend’s gift. He understood that it was probably now or never. His time was running out and soon his wings would dry up and there would be no turning back.
Jihyo was an angel medic that Hyunjin had only seen two or three times in his life. Still, he had heard extremely good things about her from literally everyone. How caring and good at her job she was, how she was the prettiest of angels, how soothing her singing was. Being in her care meant that you were going to be okay, which is one of the reasons Hyunjin had said yes so quickly.
The other reason was that he had forgotten how good it felt to card your fingers through your feathers, how safe you felt when your wings were out. He also missed flying, there was nothing as freeing as feeling the wind in your face as you sped up through the sky.
So sure, if he had to go through that pain again, he would do it gladly. The bond angels had with their wings was nothing humans could ever comprehend.
Jihyo gave him a blue serum to drink. He recognized the bitter taste of angel blood in it along with the sedative they used when performing big procedures. Chan helped him lay on his chest and from then all he could remember were sensations.
Jisung’s voice screaming something muffled by his own pained screams.
The feeling of the scalpel running across his wounds.
Chan’s hand caressing his hair.
The room moving in circles.
A blinding light tthat made him close his eyes.
A rush in his blood as his wings fluttered.
He woke up feeling like he had slept for an entire year. His mouth was dry and tasted bitterly from the serum, his back ached, his wings were pressed uncomfortably against his back, one of them squished by the wall.
He gasped once he was able to stand up and slowly extend his wings. It had surely been a while, but they still looked magnificent and elegant as they used to. His chest filled up with gratitude towards Chan who had taken such good care of them.
Hyunjin walked out of his room and was met with Han Jisung sitting up quickly from the couch he looked like he had slept on.
“Holy shit” he gasped. Hyunjin laughed. He knew.
Jisung walked closer to him, tentatively reaching his hand out. Hyunjin extended his wings and moved closer to the human so that he could touch them. A giggle escaped his lips once Jisung’s hands made contact with his sensitive wings.
“You’re so beautiful, Hyunnie,” he whispered. Hyunjin preened at the praise. “No, I mean it.” There was something in his voice, something that drew the angel closer until there was barely any respectable space between them. Jisung smiled as if this was the most natural thing in the world and held Hyunjin’s face in his hands. “You know that I love you, right?”
Hyunjin ignored the pang in his heart. “Of course, you’re my best friend,” he said.
“I don’t mean it like that, and neither do you.”
He pressed his forehead against Jisung’s. “I know,” he said, voice barely audible. He wrapped his wings around the human, pulling him closer as he shyly leaned in.
The kiss was chaste, merely a peck, but it had been enough to send Hyunjin’s heart out of his chest and make his legs feel like jelly. He suddenly had everything he ever wished for and his brain could barely comprehend what was going on. He was on cloud 9. Hyunjin laughed into Jisung’s lips.
“I love you,” he said in between kisses. He felt the human smile and pull him closer, moving one of his hands to his waist.
“And I love you, angel.”
