Soon You’ll Get Better
Ever since the Department Of Mysteries, Harry did not know what to do with himself. Dumbledore had explained the prophecy but if he was being honest, it had just given him a headache.
He pondered outside the Hospital wing where he knew his friends were. He had not been the greatest friend over the past year. He did not want to get hurt, he did not want anyone to die for him but he did not process the overprotective feelings well. It just came out as rudeness. He knew that now. He did not deserve friends like them but they still want to know and help him.
Eventually, he opened the door and scanned the door. He saw Umbridge over the other side staring up at the ceiling. Dazed and confused. Ron and Hermione were opposite. They were asleep - or appeared to be. His heart hurt seeing them like that and he walked toward them then stopped dead.
‘They are fine. Just tired,’ a voice said from behind him. He spun around and saw Ginny sitting upright in a bed. Her ankle was bandaged and up right. He nodded and walked towards her.
‘Are you alright? How’s your ankle?’
‘It will be fine and besides, I should be asking you that’ she replied with a smile.
‘Erm… I… I don’t know’ he admitted and sat down on the chair next to her. He looked around again and saw Neville being treated by Madam Pomfrey with Luna sitting next to him.
‘I’m sorry’ then said Harry after a moment.
'And what do you have to be sorry for?’ she asked and raised an eyebrow. He exhaled deeply and put his head in his hands. She allowed him the moment to compose himself.
‘I was an arse tonight, Gin. I’ve been an arse all year. All you wanted to do was help me and all I’ve done is be rude and horrible to you’ he looked over to his sleeping best friends ‘to all of you’
‘It is okay. I am happy you have acknowledged your attitude, I know Hermione will appreciate it but you had your reasons’ she replied with a smile.
‘It is not. We have all been through it. You… after your first year, you didn’t…’
Ginny gave a small laugh ‘I take it Ron has never told you the real reason we went to Egypt?’
Harry shook his head ‘No, I thought it was because your Dad won some money?’
‘Well, yes but the real reason is that I trashed the house in a fit of rage. I was a walking time bomb. Didn’t know if I was coming or going. I didn’t know what was real or not’
‘You trashed the Burrow?’
‘From bottom up. Mum didn’t look at me for weeks’ she told him with a shrug.
‘Wow, I mean, I’m an idiot. All this time when I felt alone I could have…’
‘Like I said, it is okay, Harry. If there is one thing You-Know-Who is good at, it is making you feel like you’re alone. Forever’
He nodded and leaned back thinking about what she had said. She was right but he had slipped into his coping methods from being a child because he was always alone but now, he was not.
‘Harry?’ he turned to her.
‘I’m sorry about Sirius. Please, don’t blame yourself,’ she replied. She reached out as if to touch him but she stopped and retracted.
‘There is a packet of Exploding Snap in the cupboard if you want a game’ Ginny said after a moment and gestured towards the cupboard. He nodded and grabbed the pack.
‘We are still friends aren’t we?’ Harry asked, as he prepared the cards.
‘Now, that is a silly question. Of course we are friends. Always’ she replied with a small smile. He nodded and gave her a reassuring look.
