It Was Blackmail?

Summary:

Prompt fill for a friend. Thought it would be fun to do another one of yours.

“Raymond, I just want to help–” He tried.
“I don’t need your help! Go be a father to your own fucking kid!” Raymond spat, cradling his phone to his chest.
He’s gotten this far on his own. He doesn’t need him. He doesn’t need anyone. He can deal with this on his own. Just like he always has.

A group of Raymond’s “friends” start blackmailing him. When it crosses the lines of legality, Mr. Edgeworth has to step in.

Work Text:

Ray looked down at his phone. He let out a groan.

wingnut: u got the money?

Ray responded.

Ray: Yes, where would you like it dropped off this time.

wingnut: the usual, freak

Ray rolled his eyes. Wow, what a creative insult. Not. He got up from his desk and grabbed his bag. He knew Mr. Edgeworth was starting to get worried about him running off randomly during work, but it wasn't his business. He needed to get back fast before Mr. Edgeworth followed after him. "How did I get tangled up in this?"

Ray sat the money down on the ground and went to turn around. The last person he wanted to see was Mr. Edgeworth. "Ray, what are you doing here? Is this where you've been going when you run out randomly?"

Ray pushed past him and headed back to the office. "I'm not your kid, so don't baby me."

Greg growled. "I'm not. I'm just worried. I mean, leaving money in an alley isn't the most normal thing."

Ray sighed as he sat back down at his desk. "I'm sorry, you're right. I'm sorry, Mr. Edgeworth. I shouldn't have snapped at you. I've been stressed is all."

Greg sat down across from him. He wasn't going to take that as an answer. Something serious was happening. "Ray, you were dropping off money. That looked like blackmail to me."

Blackmail? It wasn't blackmail, was it? Ray felt something click. It was blackmail. These people weren't his friends. They were pretending to be to get blackmail information. "I guess I hadn't thought of that before. Now that I know what it is, what can I do about it?"

Greg smiled. "Leave it to me."
