Chapter Text
Izuku walked up the stairs to a large house and stood on the stoop. He was nervous. The green headed teen and his mother had just moved from their old apartment to a decently sized house which was great! Izuku decided he would try and meet the neighbors, but that's not what made him so nervous. Sure, he wasn't the best at talking to new people, but he also wasn't good at talking at all. The short teen had a stutter and it made it hard to have a conversation because he was always worried about annoying the person, but the Midoriya's moved and he wanted to start off fresh. So with an inhale then an exhaled to calm himself and a pie in hand, Izuku knocked on the door.
Once the door opened he smiled kindly and started speaking, hoping that the door wouldn't be slammed in his face for his stutter.
"Hell- o... I'm your ne- new nei- neigh- neighbor... I tho- thought it wou- would be n- ice to drop by an- and say h- hi." Izuku said shyly presenting the apple pie he baked as a peace offering
A blonde headed teenager with sharp crimson red eyes stood on the other side of the door with an unamused expression. He looks to be around Izuku's age.
"What's your name moron?" The guy rose a blonde eyebrow as he crossed his arms and leaned against the door frame
Izuku looked taken aback at the deep gravely voice that insulted his intelligence and the fact that he forgot to state his name. The taller guy sounded irritated and they just met. Was Izuku really that bothersome? Granted he did forget to state his name in his greeting, but did the blonde really have to call him a moron. Maybe he's like the rest in his old neighborhood or maybe Izuku is a moron for being a stuttering freak and forgetting to tell the other his name.
The shorter teen swallowed hard.
"O- oh! R- right... I'm Iz- uku M- Midoriya-" He said shyly
The taller tilted his head.
"Huh? Deku Midoriya? Your parents hate you or somethin'?" He asked
The green headed teen's eyes went wide
"I- It's Izuku!" He shouted then shrunk back glancing to the side
"Izuku Midoriya." The shorter said clearly
"Oh." Katsuki said understandingly
"Um an- and y- you are?" Izuku gestured to the spiky blonde
The guy rolled his eyes. Was he really that annoyed with Izuku?
"Bakugou, Katsuki Bakugou." He said and Izuku is now realizing he's wearing a tight black tank top with matching baggy sweats
"N- ice to m- meet you Baka- Bakugou." Izuku internally cursed at himself when he
stuttered a lot, especially when he stuttered while
pronouncing Bakugou's name
People hate it when others misspell, mispronounce, or stutter their name. The last Izuku wanted at the moment was his neighbor to hate him and it seems like it's going that way with the deep frown on the taller's face. This guy definitely didn't like him as he grunted then turned to look to something or someone in a deeper part of his house.
"Oi, Old hag! We have a new neighbor!" Katsuki suddenly shouted making Izuku flinch
The the blonde spotted it from his peripheral and it made his frown change into something that looked to be concern.
"Don't call me that you damn brat!" A woman who looked to be in her early forties shouted as she stomped to the door
She smacked Katsuki upside the head making him wince then glare over at her fiercely. The lady didn't seem fazed by his actions. The woman and what Izuku deduced was her son, even though he called her and old hag, looked eerily similar. Spiky blonde hair, red eyes, and smooth unmarked skin. They looked like models. Way more attractive than Izuku who had messy hair, a freckled face, and plenty of scars. His mother Inko was beautiful though and if anyone says otherwise he'll kill you... in his mind.
The lady turn her head towards Izuku and he was ready to be yelled at also, but her demeanor completely changed.
"Hello! You must be the new family that moved next door. I heard you live with your mother. What's your name sweetie?" She asked
The woman said everything with a comforting smile, but Izuku's words were stuck in his throat again. He wanted to thank her, to talk to her, but his words weren't coming out, making him frustrated and embarrassed again. Katsuki seemed to noticed the internal struggle Izuku was going through in making out proper sentences. So with a roll of his eyes he gestured towards the curly haired boy.
"This is Izuku Midoriya."
Katsuki told his awaiting mother
Izuku nodded and silently thanked the male blonde for his help with a quiet sigh of relief, but was the guy mad that he had to? He looked mad. Maybe he got irritated that he had to answer for Izuku because the shorter was too pathetic to do it himself?
The lady kindly smiled and took the apple pie from Izuku who had been holding this whole time. She then asked him to come in to which the shorter shook his head.
"It's ok- okay, Mrs. Ba- Bakugou. I ne- ed to go
hel- help my mother." He declined politely, again getting irritated that he stuttered while pronouncing their name
The woman didn't seem upset that he turned her offer down.
"Aw, okay! I'll come by and visit your mother sometime." She said ruffling Izuku's hair, making him blush
"Oh and you can ask Katsuki to help you with the
unpacking if you need to." The female blonde said with a small grin, knowing it would piss off her son
Katsuki frowned.
"Oi don't be offering me up for child labor you hag!" He made a fist at his mother which shocked Izuku
The other boy was so rude. He could never imagine acting that way to his own mother, but different families have different relationships dynamics Izuku guessed. It's still rude.
The mother rolled her eyes much like her son did.
"Cram it twerp, It's not child labor if you're practically an adult." She said with a huff
"And you don't have be so formal, Auntie Mitsuki is fine!" She said cheerfully to Izuku as Katsuki grumbled
Izuku giggle slightly and then thanked them before hopping down the steps from the stoop as the door shut. He traveled to other houses on the street with a huge grin on his freckled face. The shorter was nervous talk to his new neighbors, but now he was happy that he had a decent conversation with the very first person he met in his new town. Izuku then greeted more neighbors with small pies in his hand that he made from scratch and chatted with to them. All the others weren't as bad as he thought. Sure, a few of them had an uninterested look and just shrugged him off. But his mood was never ruined. Izuku had fun greeting his neighbors and hoped he could build a good relationship with everyone in the future.
Izuku returned home much happier than when he left and he wanted to tell his mother about his progress to make her proud, not
that she never wasn't in the first place.
"Mom! Guess wha- what! I ma- ade new friends! Everyone he- here is sugoi!" He came skipping into the what's supposed to be the living room as soon as they unpack all the boxes from their move
"Honey, that's so great! I'm glad you had a nice day out." His mother, Inko smiled from the floor where she was sitting
"At least no one was mean, right?" She asked like she would end whoever hurt her babies feelings
Izuku shook his head.
"No n- not really. Everything wa- ill be fine!" He said optimistically, making Inko smile at him fondly
People think Izuku's stuttering is because he was
nervous all the time or when he meets new people,
but that's not the case. He was born with it. At the start it wasn't a big problem and his pre-school teachers thought he might grow out of the habit. But as he grew the teasing went from light hearted to actual bullying and his stuttering got worse. Then he was shunned from the other students. Called annoying, irritating or too hard to understand. His old school was a hell hole and Izuku hopes his new one won't be the same. He's not sure if he can go through anymore of that treatment which is why he desperately wanted to change schools and even neighborhoods because he felt he had no one on his side.
Among everyone there was one person never gave up though. Izuku's mother Inko. She was adamant that his stutter doesn't make her son any different from the other children. To help her son as much as she could she put him in speech tharapy with a very well known friend of her's. Izuku's stuttering wasn't as bad as it was when he started tharapy and he could control it a little when he is with someone comfortable like his mother for example, but it's still there and still noticeable. Hopefully things will be better though. A new house, new neighborhood, new school, new friends. Everything was new and fresh. Izuku was for once excited to see what tomorrow brings.
