Chapter Text
“Over here! I need help!” someone called in the distance, “can anyone hear me?” Tech DID hear, and didn’t hesitate.
“Hunter, we have more casualties veering southwest. I am on my way to assist them.”
“Copy that”
Clone Force 99 had been sent to a remote moon under Separatist control which Commander Cody was in the process of freeing. When the Separatists received reinforcements, Cody called in the Batch. It was not a difficult win–for them–but the aftermath was quite devastating for the Regs. Hunter offered his squad as evac assistance to all those who were wounded in the recent and final battle.
Tech ran at a steady and controlled pace, jumping over miscellaneous items covering the forest floor and ducking under low tree branches.
“Someone help!”
“I am within your vicinity. Please give me the details of your location.” Tech called back.
“Stuck under the fallen tree near the precipice.”
Tech approached and found the reg who was stuck. He cut the tree on both sides of the poor trapped trooper. “I got you. Stay still and this will hurt less.” Tech pulled the wood off the man and pulled out his medical scanner. “Hm, looks like you have multiple broken bones. I’ll have to carry you to the medical center.” With a groan, the trooper was lifted onto Tech’s shoulders and he was headed toward the tent graciously dubbed ‘the hospital’.

Ryn was scurrying about the ‘not too big, not too small’ tent tending from one soldier to the next as fast as she could. The wounded were pouring in and she feared it might be more than she and her co-medic could handle. Working with Cody in the 212th and Rex in the 501st got her used to the high paced action in medical as they were sent to some of the toughest places imaginable, but that didn’t make it any less stressful.
“Patch, you take the right; I got left; we can split the middle!” Ryn called, separating the tent into sections. “Here, take this, it’ll make you feel better.” She smiled kindly at the man suffering next to her. “It’s ok, ori vod Ryn is here; it’s ok.”
It was hard to tell how late it was when the man with the goggles walked in carrying yet another wounded man on his shoulders. He approached Patch, “where would you like him? I found him in the wooded area a click from here.”

Patch glanced at Tech briefly only to reply, “ask her, she’s the head medic.”
“Her?”
“Yes, her. Ryn! We have another one! Where do you want him?”
“What kind of wound does he have?” a musical yet authoritative voice responded. Tech looked in the direction the voice came from to find a smallish woman with a determined face heading his way. Her brown hair was done up in an elaborate braid which twisted round her head.
“A few broken bones and possible internal bleeding. Found him crushed under a tree.” Tech responded.
“I want him over here.” the medic known as ‘Ryn’ responded. “I want to scan him.” She pulled out her medical scanner and checked over the writhing man. “Please hold him steady.” Her voice was even as she spoke and she swiftly picked up a few items. Patch made his way over having finished with his own patient. Ryn began her work at healing the man, administering medicine and distracting comments the entire time. “You are being really brave; I’m here to help. Did you finish off the Sepies from the area? You are doing great…”
Tech stood and watched. He felt out of place just standing there so he made to leave.
“Do you have any medical training?” medic Ryn addressed him.
“Next to none. What I know is self taught but I consider myself adequate enough to take care of my vode.”
Ryn chanced a glance up at him. Her dark brown eyes met his tired, honey ones. “Want a chance to learn? I got plenty of work to do here, and Patch is worn out–he’s due for a break.” Patch whipped his head up offended. “I am perfectly fine, Ryn.”
“I’m pulling rank; you haven’t had a break in over 20 hours. Go. Lie. Down.”
“Neither have you!”
“That isn’t what we are discussing is it? This isn’t a request. This man here is our last patient we have coming in. I can handle the check ups on my own. If I need you, I’ll wake you.”
Patches sighed and relented. “Yes, ma’am.”
“That’s more like it! Now shoo!”
Patches reluctantly left Ryn and Tech. “I’m almost done and I’ll be right with you, ok?” Ryn addressed.
Tech became aware that he never really answered her yes or no. It seemed like he was roped into this now anyway. The curious part of his brain was excited. He hadn’t had any real medical training. Maybe now he could get some questions in! If he proved a good student, maybe this Ryn would let him try to treat one or two patients….he could use the practice. Besides, when was being helpful a bad thing?
“Excellent,” he replied. “How can I help?”
