Chapter 1: Finally remembering

Chapter Text

Quinceanera is a very important part of a girl's life, isn't it? Well, then why didn't the youngest granddaughter of the Madrigal have one. That hit everyone after they had rebuilt the Casita back. Four months before Mirabel's Sixteen birthday. Everything seemed to be going well and relatively normal, as normal with a magical family and house.

Mirabel woke up with a smile little did she know her family was planning something for her. "Mija! Come down here, we have something to show you." Her Mama excitedly threw the door open while Mirabel was still in her room upstairs. When the magic returned she was given room like the rest of her family. "Coming mama!" She answered rushing downstairs. These past months the family would pamper her and her Tio Bruno with compliments and Abuela was trying her best to fix the issues their family have.

Casita helped her go down quickly. Agustin was carrying a box with a big ribbon on it. Her Papa smiled at her carrying the box. "What is it? My birthday isn't for a while, it's been months since the magic return, soooo?" Mirabel looked at her Mama and Isabela who smiled at her. Casita moved a table towards them the box was given to her to open, she eyed her family suspiciously.

"We know but we think now is a good time to start planning." Her mother smiled. Mirabel was about to open the box. "Wait! You guys didn't wait for us" Camilo whines as they lead the rest of the family inside. Mirabel felt a sense of deja vu.

"Come on kid open it" Her tío Bruno said she giggled as she pulled a pastel pink dress and tiara. Mirabel remembers this was Isabela's dress.

"Surprise!" Isabela squealed, "We decided to throw you a quince," Luisa explained. "Gracias, pero ya estoy cumpliendo dieciséis años, no quince," Mirabel knew how much her family wanted to replaced  the years of being abandoned and pushed aside. "You guys remember I tried planning everything right? But you guys were too busy with Antonio's ceremony… Tonito deserves his own night, I don't blame you for that. " Mirabel said, putting the dress back. Her Mama 's eyes were full of tears "Mi vida, lamento que se suponía que iba a ser tu día" Julieta placed a kiss on her forehead. Mirabel let out a shaky breath; this was a sensitive topic for her after all.

"We know how important having Quince is, Mirabel please let us do this," Isabela begged her. "We will make it special just for you, please Mira let us," her tío Bruno said. "So this year we thought that we would make it up. We already invited the whole town to come down for your birthday. Your classmates from dance and friends will be the majority of your damas and chamberlains." Antonio said excitedly, Mirabel smiled at how excited Antonio is, not like how it went last year where no one bothered to even remember it was her birthday.

"Mirabel this time, you won't cry because we won't forget it," Antonio said to try and lift the mood. Mirabel winces at being reminded how much she cried herself that day. It was the only day she could be special and she was ignored again.

"There would be a lot of planning and I think I would be a waste," Mirabel said Isabela shook her head. "That's what I am here for Bel, your Hermana will be taking care of the planning with everyone, just pick and choose what you want okay?" Mirabel nodded. "Please Mirabel, you're growing up so fast and I would like to take some more pictures of you officially becoming a young woman." Her Papa said, his voice slightly cracking.

"Mirabel, I know I've never paid attention to you, well not enough that I forget such a milestone in your life... forgive me mi vida, " Alma spoke, placing her hand on her granddaughter's cheek.

"I'm fine Abuela, that wasn't a big deal honestly... I've forgotten like you all did," She laughed to herself but just made everyone more depressed.  Casita let out a soft rumble. Alma remembers how much Mirabel wanted to talk about her quinceanera, but that time was more focused on Antonio’s. She couldn’t help her tears.

"Always pushed you in the side, this was one of that moments that you're supposed to be a special girl... Mi dulce," Her papa said.

"Papa, I've forgiven you for forgetting that.. and now that you mention having a party for me is nice"
