"you can't handle me," wilbur says, eyes looking down. he's over 6 foot but he looks so small in this very moment. "i know you mean well, but you can't handle me. i'm twenty-five and you shouldn't need to even think about taking care of me."
"maybe, maybe not," tommy admits, but he just pouts instead. grabbing a hold of wilbur's hands and pressing his lips to his fingers, he mumbles, "but you can show me how."
"but even i don't know." wilbur frowns deeply. it makes tommy's heart feel sad too. "i'm a mess. i don't want you to see the worst of me."
"if you're a mess, i'll help you clean up," tommy insists, then he clears his throat. "if she can't handle me at my worst, she don't deserve my mental baggage."
the corners of wilbur's lip twitch upwards.
"c'mon, wil." he hums. "show me how. and i'll do my very best. that's what i'm here for. that's what a relationship is all about, right?"
wil squeezes tommy's hand. "okay," he says simply. "okay."
