Please enjoy!

Work Text:

“Figures you’re here.”

Amanda looked up from her textbook and was met with the image of a disappointed redhead. “Oh yeah, this is pretty much a weekly thing for me,” she responded. “but what are you doing here, little miss perfect?”

“It’s not my fault! This is all Akko’s doing, she set me up!” Hannah complained.

“Yeah that checks out. What did she do this time?”

Hannah got visibly frustrated. “She tried pulling a prank on Diana with one of Sucy’s mushrooms. Of course Barbara and I tried stopping her, but it just ended up being a bigger mess.”

“So guess we’re stuck in detention together, but then where are the others?” Amanda asked, looking around for more troublemakers.

Hannah took a seat a few seats away from Amanda before responding. “Barbara didn’t actually do much, so she didn’t get any punishment, but trust me, Akko is off way worse. She has to do the laundry for a week.” She said as she pulled out her own textbook.

“Ah well, it’s not so bad, you just kinda get to do whatever as long as you don’t leave this room. Finnelan is too busy to check up on us anyway, so she just trusts we stay put until the bell rings.”

That was a relief to Hannah. As much as she was a studious person, she didn’t like being hounded about everything she did.

“so why are you in here? What is it this time?” Hannah asked to keep the conversation going. At least that way she had something to do for the next two hours.

“Tried sneaking into Appleton again to cause some more trouble for those stuck up rich kids. I say tried cause of course that guy Louis recognized me. He might be a little less of a jerk after I kicked his ass that one time, but he’s still annoying about the rules and traditions of the school.”

“Wait, again? And you fought someone last time?”

“You didn’t hear? Akko and I had a great adventure looking for the holy grail last time. And yeah, I had a fight, but of course I won.” Amanda said with her usual smugness.

“How did they not recognize you two? It’s an all-boys school.”

“We wore disguises, duh! Well, Akko turned into a mouse and I wore a disguise.”

Hannah thought about the photo she found of a handsome guy in a suit who looked strangely familiar. “Wait… it can’t be!” She thought.

“Anyway, this time I was even less lucky, so now I’m here.”

But Hannah didn’t quite hear her anymore, she was too busy thinking about the photo and the connection it might have to the girl sitting only a few feet away from her. She had dreamt of meeting the man in the picture, but she hadn’t expected it to happen in this way.

The conversation had died down a bit after that, partly because Hannah was too busy thinking about the connection between her detention companion and the photo she may or may not have treasured and used as a bookmark.
If only that didn’t meant having to deal with the annoying fantasies that came with them.

Amanda had gone back to studying, but Hannah couldn’t focus anymore. She had planned to at least use her time well if she had to be in detention anyway, but all she could do now is stare at her divination homework and hope she wasn’t blushing too hard. Luckily for her Amanda was being her famously oblivious self.

The minutes went by slowly. Too slowly for Hannah. Thoughts raced through her head and were discarded as soon as they came up. “What if I just… No!” “But what if… Absolutely not!”

The longer this went on, the more she wanted to at least get something out of these boring two hours. Unfortunately for Hannah she lacked the courage to try anything.

“I’m so bored!” Amanda suddenly exclaimed after another half hour. “I know we only have like 20 minutes left of this, but for the love of Jennifer, please tell me you have a better idea than just sitting here reading a book.”

Hannah knew some things she would really like to do right then and there, but she absolutely couldn’t tell them to her crush that she had apparently had for a few months.

“Hey Hannah?” Amanda asked.

“Y-yeah?” Hannah responded, having gotten snapped out of her fantasy world.

“It may be the boredom, but has anyone ever told you you’re kinda cute?”

If she hadn’t been blushing before, she definitely was now, but she had to keep her composure. “I have been by a few people, yes. Though I have to admit you don’t look that bad yourself, especially when…” she stopped herself right before she admitted knowing about Amanda in a suit, but it was too late.

“Especially when what?” Amanda asked curiously.

“Oh ehm…” Hannah desperately tried to find a way to get out of this. “Especially when… you consider your background, yeah.”

“What about my background? You saying a girl from a non-noble family can’t be pretty?”

“I didn’t say that!” Hannah said quickly. “I just meant that I usually am more of a fan of more cultured people, like Diana.” She lied.

Amanda moved a bit closer. “Alright alright, I won’t dig any deeper into that. But you know, I’ve been in this school for a bit over a year, but I won’t lie, you are one of the cuter girls here.

This made Hannah blush even harder. “You said you won’t lie, so I won’t either.” She couldn’t back down now. “I think you’re really pretty! Especially in a suit!”

Amanda was a bit taken aback by this, but quickly recovered. “Oh I see, you like cool girls. You secretly love breaking rules and…” She couldn’t finish the sentence because before she knew it, Hannah kissed her. It was a quick kiss, but they were both left speechless after it happened.

“Eh, what just…” Amanda tried asking. But at that moment, the bell rang, meaning their detention was over and before Amanda could resume her question, Hannah had already left the classroom.

“Did that really just happen? What was I thinking?” Hannah asked herself as she hurried back to her room. The last thing she heard before leaving the hallway was Amanda shouting “I’m free this weekend if you want to get some coffee or something!”

Hannah would love to go, but first she’d have to go to her room to process it all before anyone saw her. Once she’s had a chance to calm down, she would have to find Amanda to accept her invitation.
