It was a funny way for Ignis to find out that Ravus had never been sick an entire day in his life.
It was "funny" only for Ignis, of course. Ravus was extremely uncomfortable and unable to find humor in any part of this situation.
Ravus' mother was a healer, and later, so was his sister, and at the first sneeze, they were on him like bees on a flower, ready to clear his body of diseased nectar.
Even when he was in the Niflheim army, he was mostly stuck in Tenebrae, and still came home to Fenestala Manor; Luna fixed up every scrape, bump or gash immediately.
Ravus always imagined that the only thing that could fell him was someone else's sword.
NOT the flu.
Luna was with Noctis on a courtesy call to Galahd, and husband and wife were going to be away for a week or so. The day after they left, Ravus began to complain that he was feeling poorly. The sniffles and fever came after dinner.
"None of it's working. I might as well be left alone to die," he groaned. Ignis sighed. He had just managed to convince Ravus to take "Lucian chemicals" like paracetamol. He'd even made Ravus his favorite Tenebraean tea, hoping it would help the medicine go down.
"Give it a few hours to work, at least," he admonished. He had enough experience caring for the sick: Noct had been ill for a long time after his Marilith injury. And Noct, Gladio, Prompto and even Ignis had their fair share of minor health complaints after being away from Insomnia, for the first time in their young lives.
Ravus looked at him with red, watery eyes. "In case your treatment fails," he rasped, "will you stay with me?"
"You won't die even if it fails, Ravus," Ignis said gently.
"Just in case," Ravus insisted.
Ignis sighed. He'd been with Ravus long enough to know which arguments he would never win.
So he climbed into Ravus' bed, put his arms around his lover for good measure and extra warmth. It was a good thing he had already washed up, ready to go to sleep, himself: he could stay here all night, if needed.
"This," Ravus murmured against his hair. "This is exactly how I'd like to go."
Ignis stifled a chuckle. He was going to save the hits to Ravus' ego for when the man was well enough to take them.
"Try to get some sleep now," he whispered reassuringly. "You'll feel better in the morning."
