Summary
Niflheim: An empire built upon the might of its military and the power of magiteknology. Though deemed power-hungry and warmongering by those fortunate enough to live outside of its rule, to Gaia Machina, it was home. Well, "home" was a stretch. Initially planned to be an espionage unit more akin to an android than her MT brethren, budget limitations reduced Gaia to just another pawn used for more destruction.
That was, until a chance fight outside of Insomnia, Lucis's capital, gave her the opportunity she needed for her own freedom. She was finally able to make her own choice: to take her own side and forge her own path— a path of redemption. Throwing caution to the wind and hiding her magitek nature, she set off to join Prince Noctis Lucis Caelum in finally bringing an end to Niflheim's destruction. However, walls eventually crumble, no matter what. Her act can only be held up for so long before her new friends realize she isn't exactly the hunter she claimed to be. It also seemed that fate had more in store for the rogue magitek than just helping the Chosen King fulfill his destiny. Reminders of her past, brought into a new light by her choices in the present.
Gaia certainly wasn't programmed for this.

After an attempt to change their fates, Luna, Ardyn, and Noctis find themselves cast in different roles. The Oracle, the Accursed, and the King of Light. Their friends find themselves in new roles too, though with varying degrees of memories of their past lives. All except Somnus and Aera, who wake up in Leide with no clue at all what is going on. They all figure it out, as they go, and that's when they realize there's only one end goal in mind, now that they're in a world so like their own and yet so different. Screw up the prophecy again. None of them want to be the playing pieces of the Astrals again.

“Kid,” Gladio says, his leg jostling and his face gone grim again, “he was the only one there.”

Two chapters of yapping and "will they won't they" followed by one chapter of loving gay sex (hopefully).
