General Tullius had just gone back to Castle Dour, and Lady Elisif long since retreated to her quarters for the night. Although the silence wasn’t unusual, the tension in the air was sharper than a mountain wind. Tullius’ lip was pursed tightly as he stormed out the palace doors with thunder in his boots. Lady Elisif, on the other hand, wore a soft, downcast expression that was invisible to most, yet obvious to someone who had known her as long as Falk.
While propriety and rules had held him back this long, something deep inside him ached to go after her.
It was a terrible idea, but he couldn't bring himself to care.
