Summary
“Trust me,” he whispers, and Thomas closes his eyes as the scarf is placed over them. It’s dark enough with the dawn still rising to darken his world considerably, and Thomas feels his heart skip a beat, drawing all that he can on what he feels to recognise the world he can no longer see: Newt’s weight and warmth in his lap, the coarse material over his skin, the tightness of a knot pulled behind his head to secure the scarf in place, and the gentleness of a kiss placed on his lower lip.
Thomas feels fingers trail down his wrists; Newt’s smaller hand cover his own, bringing it up so Thomas is cradling Newt’s cheek, his other hand copying until he’s holding him, looking with touch instead of eyes.“Even when you can’t see me, Tommy, I’m still here,” he says, soft, to accommodate the space between them and its electricity on Thomas’s skin. “I’m right here.”
There’s a touch on his chest, above his heart. “I’m always right here.”Or: Thomas has nightmares about the maze and Newt helps him keep his mind on other things.
