Snow Day

Work Text:

"They're having a lot of fun," Bucky grumbles, watching how the two of you are playing in the snow. You've been playing most of the day, unknowingly making Bucky extremely jealous of how much fun you're having with Peter. He's watched you make snow angels, build snowmen, and now you and Peter were preparing for a snowball fight. "You should have seen them on the mission last week."

It was a simple mission. Cut and dry with all three of you there. It seemed like returning from the mission was more taxing for Bucky than the actual mission at this point. You and Peter were still walking with a little skip in your step, just ahead of Bucky. To you, it seemed like Bucky was a little extra annoyed today, and though you kept turning around to try to include Bucky, his jaw was tight and he said very little the entire time.

"You're like the Avatar," Peter marvels, walking back to the compound after your successful mission. "It was so cool. Like," he dramatically copies your movements.

"What's an Avatar?" you ask Peter.

"Like the blue people?" Bucky questions, wondering what connection you could possibly have to that movie.

"No, that's Avatar. I'm talking about The Avatar- it's from a TV show. There's this guy- well, I guess he's kind of a kid..." Then he rambled on for the next 10 minutes about the TV show. You intently listened to every Peter said, occasionally asking him questions about this cartoon.

"I don't really have any tricks like that." You frown, listening to him explain the cartoon. "Oh, wait, I do have one."

"Can I see it? Please?" he begs.

"Alright, alright," you nod with excitement. "Ready?"

"Ready," Peter says gleefully.

"Bucky?" you ask, turning to your friend, who's been oddly quiet. He nods at you to go ahead. You twitch your nose a little, pretending to feel a sneeze. You release your pretend sneeze and send yourself a few feet in the air propelling yourself into a backflip. You gracefully land and your feet and watch for Bucky's reaction. It's subtle, but you can see a small smile tug at his lips.

"Oh my God, he does that in the show too!" Peter exclaims.

Your mouth drops in excitement. "Really?!"

"You are like the Avatar!"

"You're jealous of Peter," Sam states. Then he breaks into overzealous bordering on maniacal laughter. "Oh my God, you're jealous of Peter Parker."

"I'm not jealous," he scowls, still watching you and Peter. The frown on his face growing even more, his fist clenching so tightly at the way you're playing around and laughing with Peter.

That's when the realization hits him. "Oh my God, I'm jealous of Peter Parker." He grabs Sam by the lapels of his jacket and dramatically shakes him. "How much lower can I fall, Sam? I'm jealous of Peter Parker."

"Man, get off of me," Sam says, pushing Bucky away and straightening his jacket. "Look, you don't have to worry about Peter. But you want to know how to make sure of that? To make sure you don't have to worry about anyone else?"

"How?" Bucky desperately urges.

"Actually asking her out," Sam deadpans. "Make a move."

Bucky's frown deepens. "I thought you were going to say something helpful."

"That is helpful- how long can you two possibly keep dancing around each other? If you want it to happen- do something about it."

"She not interested in me like that."

"Are you blind? Or just dumb?"

"You don't understand, it's complicated."

"Nothing complicated about it-"

That's when Bucky feels a large chunk of snow hit him in the back of the head, a little bit of it hitting Sam too. When he whirls around, you and Peter are both standing there with guilty looks on your faces and your hands behind your backs.

"Alright, which one of you threw that?" Bucky demands.

"Uh, Mr. Winter- I mean, Bucky," Peter start stammering, a little afraid that he was the one that just accidentally threw a snowball at the Winter Soldier. Well technically, it was your fault. He'd thrown the snowball, but you were the one that redirected it, sending it flying into the back of Bucky's head.

"Well that was an accident," you reply, interrupting Peter's anxious rambling. You look up at the tree branch Bucky's standing over and knock down the snow on top of it. "This- not so much."

"Oh," Bucky's eyes narrow at you playfully. "You better run."

"You'll never take me alive, copper," you quip, squealing as Bucky starts running, cutting through the field you and Peter were having your snow day in. You take off running until you feel a metal arm wrap around your waist and drag you into the soft pile of snow. He pins you on your back, arms gently pinned above your head. "Give up?"

"Never," you smile. With your abilities, you drop a fresh pile of snow on Bucky. He yelps as the melted snow trails into the back of his jacket and all over his hair and neck. You take the distraction as an opportunity and you flip Bucky on his back.

"Give up?" you ask, your legs straddling his waist. You're practically doubled over in laughter, your head almost touching Bucky's shoulder.

"Not interested, my ass," Sam scoffs, watching you and Bucky play in the snow like a couple of kids.
