    Summary

“You are not shocking everything you touch anymore,” Lucanis observed suddenly, his eyes never leaving his card as he drew again.
The attempt to further disarm her was transparent. Two can play that game, she thought.
“Bread—or crackers, I suppose—always gets the job done,” she replied, watching him discard. “Faster than the other method, too.”
Rook drew another card then: a song. Of all the damned cards. She didn’t hesitate before putting it right to the discard pile. She looked up as he took his turn, waiting patiently.
“What’s the other method?” he asked, and though his voice was neutral as he walked into her trap, it held a slight curiosity.
Whether it was real or feigned, she didn’t know, but she aimed to find out.
    “Sex,” she stated bluntly.
His dark eyes rose to meet hers. Not a muscle twitched otherwise, but his attention was hers, fully.

Rook, dealing with annoying aftereffects of too much spell casting, stumbles upon Lucanis engaging in an unusual hobby. Intrigued, she joins him at the table, and they learn some more about each other when they set a friendly wager on a game of Wicked Grace.

    Summary

He said he needed to clear his head.
    That was all.
She had thought Spite might have said or done something to take him out of the moment, to put him on edge. She… hadn't expected this.
It was so obvious in hindsight. She'd been blind. A proper, blind fool. One too caught up in her own fantasy to see what was right in front of her.
    ---
It was Bellara who noticed first.
The whole team had come or gone through the kitchen at some point the next morning. Some stayed to eat. Some just grabbed a plate. Some stumbled about until the coffee hit their systems.
    Everyone had been here.
    Everyone except Rook.
She spoke with every person. She checked every room.
But Rook wasn't here. Rook wasn't anywhere.

    Summary

When Lucanis arrived at the lighthouse, Rook’s gaze inevitably found the little details that made him unique. She noticed the buttons on his shirt first—silver skulls shaped like crow heads. Then there was the silver chain around his neck, catching the faint light of the room and flickering with his every movement.
There was a quiet elegance to the way silver framed him, softening the harsh angles of his face, making the cold glint in his eyes seem almost tender.
He looked… unexpectedly lovely in silver.
It caught her off guard, this sudden realization. Lucanis was not a man given to adornment or display; he was careful, reserved, a shadow that moved silently between light and darkness. Yet beneath that careful exterior, the silver seemed to pull something from him that few had ever seen — something fragile, almost ethereal.
A thought came to her then, like insistent whisper: he should have more. More silver, more little touches of light to catch and hold in the darkness.
    Yes. He should have more.

    ––––––

Or: Five times Rook gifted Lucanis something made of silver, and one time Lucanis gifted silver to her.

    Summary

Reached with hands that did not hold,
In shadows where no warmth is told.
She never saw, nor ever knew,
The hush between the flame and dew.

    But once our worlds aligned,
And touch became a breaking sign.
    But once our edges met,
A spark too quiet to forget.

Or: 5 times Spite touched Rook, but she didn’t know + 1 she did.
