Work Text:
"You guys really are such a cute couple." Emmet said, walking into the stations lounge. The two of them were beginning to form more of a bond now that he and Travis are back together. It was similar to her and Miranda's relationship, loving a firefighter and being in terrible fear every time they left the house for work.
Carina gently laughed as she sat down on the couch. "Really? Have you seen the way Travis looks at you?" It was true - lately he was looking at Emmet like the world revolved around him.
Emmet shrugged his shoulders "You and Maya have been together for over a year, and it's like every time you walk into the room you give her butterflies."
Carina's head tilted to the side a bit in confusion, "Butterflies would be a very odd gift, no? Does Maya like butterflies?" The blond shook his head and let out a dry laugh.
Carina assumed that it was an idiom, but not one she recognized, or made sense. Emmett's face heated up a little bit, as if he was embarrassed that she wasn't a complete expert at the language.
"No, it means that," he let put a deep sigh, trying to find a good way to explain it, "You know when you're with your someone and you get that feeling in your stomach?" Carina nodded, and her eyes lit up as she finally understood.
"Well, Maya gives me butterflies too."
Carina was sitting at the dining room table of her and Maya's apartment, her eyebrows furrowed as she stared intently at her phone. Biting the inside of her cheek as she read over the text Amelia just sent her over and over again.
haha ly2 make sure to cye bc bailey sent the intern schedules to the attendings that r in charge of them this week
Also lmk about dinner Friday
Maya groggily walked into the kitchen, she got back late from her shift because of a four alarm fire and took a quick nap after her shower. She drug her feet across the floor as she went to the fridge to get some water.
In the middle of her drink, she saw her wife's confused (and slightly angry) expression. She racked her mind over the past few days to make sure she didn't do anything to cause it and nothing came to mind.
"Are you okay?"
Instead of responding, Carina waved for Maya to come over to her. Which she did, rather quickly. The blonde peaked over her shoulder to see the two messages on Carina's phone.
"Can no one text full words now? I don't understand half the sentence!"
"Haha, love you too. Make sure to check your email because Bailey sent the intern schedules to the attendings that are in charge of them this week." Carina rolled her eyes dramatically as her wife was reading it out. "Also let me know about dinner Friday."
"This is - that is still - ugh." Carina set the phone down, glaring at Maya as she made her way back to the kitchen. "Why can't people text normally?"
"I mean technically that is how a lot of people normally text. Try texting Travis like ever." Both Maya and Carina were pretty formal texters, correct grammar, punctuation, adding commas and periods in them too. "Also tell her that dinner on Friday is still on, it just has to be after six."
Carina muttered something under her breath as she begrudgingly picked her phone up and texted Amelia back.
Dinner should be good on Friday, as long as it's sometime after six. What works best for you?
Andy and Vic were over and drinking at the apartment. Carina and Maya were standing across from them, getting some food together for their little girls night. Andy was telling some story from high school as if it was still a fresh wound.
"And it was just bam, now I have to do the whole senior project." Vic gasped, leaning back in her chair and jumping a bit when she thought she was about to fall over.
Carina sighed and shook her head. "That was not fair for him to come out of the blue with that." Andy nodded along, giving them all a 'how come no one else has said this' look.
Vic raised her drink "Idiom!" She called out, taking a drink in congratulations for the Italian getting the saying right. Andy did the same while Maya put the plate of food down to give her wife a chaste kiss.
A smile came across Carina's face. "Yes! Fist me, Maya!"
Andy choked on her drink, bending over quickly. Vic, luckily swallowed before Carina said it and was left taking a few deep inhales to catch her breath while Maya stared at Carina's awaiting fist with wide eyes.
"I - its uh - it's fist bump, Carina."
