Chapter Text
The silence around Jaskier was broken by voices, he didn’t open his eyes at first. He wasn’t sure he’d even be able to. Instead, he tried to figure out what the voices were saying. There are two men speaking and one voice he couldn’t fully hear. He focused on the voices of the two men, trying to hear what was being said.
“What did she say his name was again, Magnus?” The voice that asked the question was right above him, almost too close for comfort. Jaskier remained still however, it was likely the two men and their companion didn’t know he was awake and the element of surprise could be his best bet to escape if they ended up being hostile.
“Jaskier, his name is Jaskier, Gwydion.” Magnus and Gwydion he knew he had heard those names before, he couldn’t remember where or who had said them to him though.
“Oh….he must be waking up….. I’ll go get her….” Jaskier froze when the voice made him realize his face had been scrunching up in concentration as he tried to remember where he had heard the names. It took him a few moments to decide he may as well open his eyes and see whose company he was in rather than pretend he had been suffering an intense dream.
“I’m glad you’re awake, Jaskier….you gave us all a fright. If it weren’t for Gwydion’s skills I’m sure we would have lost you…” the man who spoke, Jaskier presumed he was Magnus, had long red hair, and startlingly green eyes. He was well-built, and the sword that hung from his hip made Jaskier more than a little nervous. This man was clearly skilled and powerful. The bard had no hope of beating him if it came down to a fight.
Jaskier looked around, trying to subtly find an escape route. The home he found himself in was warm and cozy looking, with plants and potion vials decorating the walls and every available flat surface. A shudder ran down his spine, perhaps these two men were in league with the witch, and she was planning on using him as bait for Geralt. When the silence was broken, Jaskier nearly jumped out of his skin.
“Am I making you nervous? You’re sweating……maybe it’s just the heat? Want me to turn it down a little?” Jaskier frowned a little, he hadn’t noticed he was sweating, but now that it had been pointed out he realized it was a little too warm for his liking. He kept his eyes glued to Magnus and slowly nodded. Magnus’ face broke into a warm smile, and he made a little hand motion. When an Ifrit suddenly appeared in the air beside him, Jaskier yelped in surprise and scrambled away from the creature. He scrambled a little too far however and found himself falling off the bed. Before he could make contact with the floor, a pair of hands grabbed him.
“Magnus. You’re going to scare the man. I know you like to show off, but some warning next time?” Jaskier looked up at the new person, he was an equally muscular, equally tall man. This one had curly blonde hair and eyes that couldn’t seem to settle on one colour. After the blonde set him back on the bed, he sat and offered Jaskier a hand.
“I’m Gwydion, by the way, I’m sure Magnus made his introduction?” Jaskier shook his head slowly, still trying to figure the two men out.
“I heard you say your names, so I figured he was “Magnus” but we didn’t really have time for introductions….” Gwydion nodded a little at the explanation.
“I see…well….he’s Magnus, sorcerer and show off….he fought off the witch that had poisoned you..and like I said I’m Gwydion. I’m a Druid, when we found you it was a little concerning, but I’m glad I was able to bring you back” Jaskier slowly nodded, thinking over what Gwydion had said, then he paused and concern flashed across his face.
“Wait… You guys killed the witch! Where’s Geralt? We were hunting her, he was supposed to find her!” The two men glanced at each other with surprised looks.
“Wait…Geralt the Witcher?” Jaskier nodded frantically. Normally two men, magic or not, wouldn’t be a problem for Geralt, but something about these two felt weird to Jaskier, and he was concerned.
“We didn’t see him when we found you..and we weren’t exactly subtle about it. The witch tried locking us out, so we had to explode some things to get to you….. If he had been around, he would have come to see what was happening…” Jaskier shook his head.
“No..no, he’s a Witcher. He would have been fine against a witch…” Magnus nodded a little and patted Jaskier’s shoulder, his touch was warmer than a normal person’s and Jaskier looked up at him in surprise, causing the ginger to grin and wink.
“He’s fine, probably just got caught up in something. I can go out and see if I can find him if you’d like.” Jaskier was about to voice his opinion when a third voice spoke up from the doorway that lead out of the room.
“ No need for that, he’s coming…..did either of you leave the note I suggested? Because he looks angry….like...really angry…. Mags, you’re up….. He’d probably think I was fake, and Jaskier still looks like he doesn’t believe you’re friendly.” Jaskier froze, he knew he had heard that voice as he blacked out, he presumed it was simply another hallucination caused by the witch or his love coming to take him to the afterlife. But hearing it without anything clouding his mind, he knew it was real.
“(Y/n)!?” (Y/n) stepped further into the room as Magnus stood and left. She took the spot the sorcerer had vacated and sighed a little, a look of bliss crossing her face.
“Oh hell, he’s hot….it’s nice….” Jaskier missed the look of appreciation Gwydion sent after Magnus, and the nod in response to (y/n)’s words. Rather, he focused on the fact she had said another man was hot. He knew it was ridiculous, but he couldn’t help a twinge of jealousy.
“Anyway. You probably need some explanations, don’t you, Jas? Well…… that night…after the confessions I kinda blanked out… when I came to you and Geralt were gone, but Gwydion had found me. I told you about him and Magnus before….” As (y/n) spoke, the conversation he had been trying to figure out earlier came crashing back into Jaskier’s mind.
“I…yeah…childhood best friends right?” (Y/n) beamed and nodded happily.
“Yeah… Magnus was taken to learn magic when we were all pretty young. And Gwydion left pretty soon after that, but after they both learned their craft, we started keeping in touch again….they were trying to surprise me during the hunt…. Like I said, Gwydion found me and took me back to his and Magnus’ place to try and heal what he could…. Then we set out to find you and Geralt…. Thank god, we came when we did. That witch wasn’t messing around. We found three other men babbling their heads off to hallucinations. Gwydion healed them of course, but you were….well…. I wanted to bring you back, let you have a place to rest better….guess I should have made sure a note was actually left behind for Geralt though….” Behind him, Jaskier heard Gwydion huff softly.
“Don’t blame me, I had my arms full of dying man.” (Y/n) chuckled softly and shook her head.
“No, I don’t blame you, Magnus was too excited about the fireball he made to leave the note…. Speaking of which, either he and Geralt killed each other or they are talking because it’s far too quiet for them to be fighting…. Should one of us go see?” Gwydion hummed a little and stood, crossing the floor to peek out of the window that (y/n) was sitting in front of.
“They seem to not be killing each other…. They are coming inside, so that’s a good sign.” Jaskier hadn’t taken his eyes off (y/n) since she had first spoken. When she looked back towards him, she smiled softly and stood, walking over to the bed he occupied. The moment she was close enough, he reached out and grabbed her hand, pulling her closer with surprising strength considering he had just woken up from nearly dying. She landed against him and laughed softly, the noise was practically music to Jaskier.
“I missed you, oh lord, did I miss you.” (Y/n) smiled softly and pressed a kiss to Jaskier’s cheek, before she pressed her forehead against his and murmured softly.
“I missed you to Jaskier…..the moment I woke up I wanted to find you, but Gwydion told me I needed to recover first, but believe me. Every moment away from you was agony.” Both (y/n) and Jaskier had forgotten they weren’t alone, at least until a grunt announced Magnus and Geralt’s arrival.
“That was both adorable and disgusting. ‘Dion. If I ever say something so mushy, pl-”
“If you ever say something so mushy, I’ll kiss you then slap some sense into you.” (Y/n) rolled her eyes at the banter, then she looked at Jaskier and smiled, reaching to stroke his cheek. Jaskier closed his eyes and leaned his head into the touch, practically melting into (y/n)’s hand. As the two lost themselves in each other’s presence, Gwydion ushered Magnus and Geralt from the room to give them some privacy for their reunion. Privacy (y/n) and Jaskier made use of with softly spoken words and just as soft touches.
