Choi Han was worried. It was a feeling he was becoming familiar with, after Cale took him under his wing and he realized how weak the beautiful man actually was - and how strong the butler and cook accompanying them to the Capital were, making his hair stand on the back of his neck in suspicion. No one who wielded the knife as well as they did had good reasons to be mere servants in a noble's household, and Choi Han vowed to protect Cale even against the people working under him.
And Choi Han knew that Cale was competent. He wasn't arrogant to the point of looking at him as if he was a damsel in distress. But Choi Han also knew sometimes perceptions could be skewed if, for example, you knew someone for years. It was easy to instil trust as the others would lower their guards and, in consequence, easier to slit a throat or poison a cup when your prey didn't see you as a threat any longer.
That was why he kept his keen senses on Cale, especially on lonely nights inside an inn where danger could strike at any moment. It was better to sleep with one eye open and his ears sharp than realize come morning your charge was already cold in their sheets.
