The Tales of an unwilling babysitter

Summary:

When Aizawa met Osamu Dazai he knew that his life wasn't going to be the same again.

Now he was an uncle trying to take care of a smart kid that wasn't oddy at all... Well, it was only a child, what could go wrong?

Everything apparently, read as the years pass in the perspective of Aizawa babysitting a reincarneted Dazai while he loses bets and sanity.

The first of a serie where the characters of Bungou Stray Dogs reincarnate in the world of Boku no Hero because I love crossovers and Bungou Stray Dogs need more of it.

Notes:

Hey! This is my first post in AO3 and I will start this note about what this fic exactly is... Basically what happens after you read all the BSD crossovers in AO3 and now don't have a life.

I don't have much information besides that, also gonna put here the ages of the characters in the first little story and you can do math if you need to know their ages in the future.

Other thing, this is going to be a series that is going to come up in a big story at the end, so each one of the oneshots I post with the BSD and BNHA crossover are going to be prequels to this fic I'm writing.

Now to end these notes and for you to enjoy a little read I'm just gonna tell you guys that I do not know how to write in English. I'm using my hobby as a fanfiction writer to help me to become fluent, so this fic is going to have an easy write and probably with some errors, but I hope that it is still fun. Maybe later I will make a translation in my native language.

Ages:

Dazai -> 3 months

Aizawa -> 15 years

Dazai's Mother -> 24

Aizawa's Mother -> 42

Aizawa's Father -> 44

Work Text:

The Tales of an unwilling babysitter

Aizawa Shota didn’t think of himself as a family person, his family was a very common one, a father, a mother and two kids, one girl and one boy. The traditional Japanese family, his parents were also very common, a quirkless father and a mother with a flower quirk, both owned a florist shop (Yamada believed firmly for three years that it was a joke), his older sister was also quirkless and was a very reserved girl.

Shota didn’t know much about her, and when she left the house to move to Yokohama at eighteen, he thought that he would never see her again.

Maybe his monotonous family was what driven Shota to the hero world, the hope to be something greater.

Now he finds it kind of ironic, that in the same year he was accepted into UA his family stopped being monotonous. Of course, he didn't know that at the time..

Five days after being accepted at the best school in Japan, it was only five days after that his life changed.

He came home from school, looking at his notebook where the drawing of his Hero Costume was, at the time Shota was still trying to perfect his hero costume and it was far away from what he wanted. However, even distracted, he noticed the first red flag, the first signal that his life would change.

His family's florist shop was closed.

It didn’t look like something to be panicked about, however, the thing was that his parents never closed the shop.

The flowers there were dependent on his mother’s quirk, when looking at the flowers they flourish better than ever, however, to this work without creating an addiction to the flowers a strict routine was necessary.

The last time they closed the shop early was on the day his grandfather died.

Aizawa sped up to his house, he was a shy boy and the day’s where he spent time with his parents were long dead, however he still worried about them a lot (Not that he would admit).

He didn’t expect to see his older sister when he ran through that door. He expected to see his parents crying over another lost family member, or even to see his mother with a bad headache caused by her quirk, but he didn’t expect to see her.

Black hair, brown eyes and looking way older. And in her lap a cute newborn baby was sleeping.

“Shota…” His sister said, she looked to think and rethink what to say, not looking confident, very different from what he remembered, which wasn't very much, he was only nine years old when she left. After what looked hours, she finally speak “Come here”

Still a little choked with the course of events, Aizawa did what she asked and approached his sister and the baby. His parents looked melancholy, both with tears in their eyes.

“Here” She put the baby in his arms and Aizawa almost dropped it. The little thing chose this moment to open his eyes and looked at Aizawa, staring at him with sharp eyes. “His name is Osamu, Dazai Osamu”

“Okay…” Aizawa didn’t know what to say in a situation like this. Thankfully, his sister took the baby back and smiled at him.

“Osamu, that is Shota, he is your uncle”
Then, the baby looked at him again, a curious glare, almost inquisitive.

And in that moment Shota knew that the life of his family would change a lot.

Three Months Old

The baby was three months old, Aizawa was told, however, Aizawa also thought that Osamu was too smart for a three month old baby.

Since his sister moved back home with a son, things changed at the Aizawa Residence. His parents were very happy with the extra member in the family, however, they were also working extra hard.
Now they had to provide for a family of five, having the coast of the UA and of the baby's things, all with a florist shop.

His sister was very distant, Aizawa rarely saw her at home, she was working as a secretary in some corporation and looked to be working hard to occupy her mind. Aizawa was no child, he knew that a single quirkless mother that didn’t want to say anything other than the name of the baby's father was bad news.

So, he decided to be supportive of his family and help to take care of Osamu. When he wasn’t in school he was babysitting his nephew.

And sincerely? It wasn’t what he expected.

All the books, youtube videos and energetic blond class colleagues with younger brothers (No, Hizashi was not his friend) that he consulted said the same thing “Babies are hell” “They cry and poop all the time!” “Say goodbye to your sleep and social life” Well, Aizawa already didn’t have sleep or social life, so how bad could it really be?

Apparently the answer was that: A) All that was bullshit and babies aren’t difficult to handle or B) Dazai Osamu was a little creepy.

He looked quickly at the baby in the cradle, the baby looked back at him, both facing each other for a time. The baby looked amused with what he was doing, almost as if he knew what Aizawa was thinking.

Option B then.

He sighed and got up, going in the direction of the baby and picking him up.

“Are you hungry Osamu?” He asked the baby, and like he did before, the baby shook his head, like if he understood perfectly what Aizawa said “You are very smart, aren’t you?” If he wasn’t a baby Aizawa would've thought that his smile was a smug one.

“However, it is your lunch time, so you will have to eat,” Aizawa said, putting the baby back in the criddle. Again, not as a normal baby, Osamu didn’t cry, he only looked a little angry… Or better saying, bothered.

Aizawa really didn’t know what that baby had against drinking milk, he was a lot better when they were using the baby bottler, only making an angry face while being fed, however, every time his sister tried to feed him by herself the baby would refuse insistently.
So she had to prepare all these extra bottles for Osamu, this baby was really picky.

Well, being picky was a normal baby thing, right? He would have to ask Hizashi later.

Six Months Old

It was Saturday and today Aizawa and Osamu were at the florist shop. In the last months Aizawa had spent a lot of time with his little nephew, he could really say that he was very familiar with the boy.

Aizawa was almost convinced at this point that Osamu was some kind of genius, maybe a mutation quirk or something like that.

According to the internet, babies with six months would start to get up by himselfs, however, Osamu almost skipped that part, it was like he already knew how to walk, but wasn’t used to a body with almost no self coordination.

So, now that the little menace was trying to walk, his parents asked that both stay more time at the florist shop. In the moment, his mother was in the cashier, his father was making deliveries, he was watering the flowers and Osamu was sitting at the counter, a child book with more images than letters in front of him. Osamu didn’t have the force or coordination in his little hands to hold a book, but even if he didn’t know how to read, books were his favorite toys.

Aizawa sighs and then gets back to the flowers, almost immediately jumping of surprise. At the other side of the shop window a boy with blue hair had his face stuck to the glass, looking at him with a wild smile.

“Aizawa!” The black haired boy never saw someone run more quickly to the inside of a shop, and he already saw Hizashi and Kayama shopping.

“Shirakumo” Great, that was everything Aizawa needed, one of the annoying class colleagues (Not friends) discovering where he lives.

“Dude! That 's Amazing! You Work at a florist shop?!” The boy almost threw himself at Aizawa “I have to tell Hizashi!”

“You are not telling him” , Aizawa said angrily, he didn’t need Hizashi Yamada bothering him more than five days a week. “He will never believe in you anyway”

“He is going to love this!” Shirakumo said, ignoring him and looking around with big and excited eyes. His eyes going immediately to the little baby in the counter, Osamu was looking at them with a mixture of amusement and curiosity.

Shirakumo eyes shined and he run to Osamu, picking him up immediately

“OH MY GODS HE IS SO CUTE!” He screamed, Aizawa and Osamu shared a iqual look of annoyance.

His mother in the cashier only laugh

“He is the cutest, right?” She said with a smile “You’re Shota’s friend?”

“No”

“Yes! We are in the same class ” Shirakumo reply happily and then turned to Osamu “This must be Aizawa’s little nephew, he is always talking about him”

“Ask questions about babies is not the same as talk about one…”

“But look how similar you are! Even the same bothered eyes!” Shirakumo was amazed with the baby, however, Osamu already look like if the older boy didn’t let he go soon he would be planning murder. Or most probably was only going to pee at him, like the little shit he was.

Aizawa quickly picks up Osamu, trying to save his non-friend from a premature death.

“What are you doing here anyway?” He ask while putting the baby back at the counter

“I was just passing by” He says looking at the flowers “Then I saw my antisocial best friend with a pink flowered apron and I had to see if I was hallucinating”

“I’m not your friend”

“Yeah, like I said, you’re my best friend”

“We are not friends, I don’t have friends”

“Well, I think that this was a little too early in our relationship, but if you want to be my boyfriend you just have to ask…”

“Shut the fuck up Shirakumo” Aizawa said, his cheeks burning red while he threw a flower in his face… Not the best choice of a weapon, but the only one he had.

“Aww, that's sweet! How much for this flower ma’am?” Shirakumo said, showing the hyacinth in his hands with pride. This made Aizawa remember that they had an audience.

His mother looked delighted and Osamu looked like he was about to laugh.

“For a pretty boy like you it is going to be free” She said smiling “Consider it a Shota’s gift”

“No, I didn't agree…”

“YES! A gift from Shota! Hizashi is going to die of jealousy!” Shirakumo said looking at the flower with a new found love “See you in school Shota!” And then the boy left as quickly as he came.

Aizawa sighs and buries his face in his hands. What a nightmare.

“So, Shota, who was your friend?” His mother was grinning and it only made Aizawa groan louder.

Osamu giggled

Man, when the boy was older Aizawa was going to embarrass him so badly.

“I’m telling the truth! Aizawa works at a florist shop!” Shirakumo almost screamed to his friends, neither Hizashi or Kayama looked very interested in what he was saying

“Man, there is no way he works at a florist shop” Hizashi said taking another bite in his sandwich

“Yeah, try a better lie next time” Kayama said turning the page of her magazine

“But it’s not a lie! He even uses a cute apron and everything!”

“Yeah, like if he would touch something that isn’t black”

“I’m almost sure that he has a allergy to everything that is happy, flowers include”

The boy with blue hair screamed and buried his face in the table. Aizawa was right, no one was ever going to believe him.

One Year Old

Dazai Osamu is one year old now, soon is going to be two, and still hasn’t spoken one word. His sister got very worried about that, she was afraid that something was wrong with him.

However, Aizawa knew better, Osamu was smart. He already could walk a little, just had some difficulty with balance, but never had fallen. He didn’t like his toys, preferring to hang out with Aizawa or watch TV, and even though he liked cartoons he still looked to enjoy more when Aizawa let the detective shows he watched on the screen.
Because of that, Aizawa knew very well that Osamu already could talk, but just chose to not speak. He thought for some time that maybe Osamu was waiting to be able to speak better, don’t wanting to have a generic first word, but this didn’t make sense, Osamu was a baby, not some kind of evil genius with multiple schemes.

So this was the reason that Aizawa didn’t see a motive to bring Osamu to the doctor. Normally Aizawa was happy to see Osamu going to the doctor, not because he was some kind of creepy who liked to see babies hurt, but because Osamu hated doctors and every time he had to go to one he would came back tired and instantly fall asleep, what means no babysitting to Aizawa.

But today wasn’t one of these days, since Aizawa was tagging along. He just got out of his hero internship and needed a car ride home. All the buses and trains to his neighborhood weren’t working thanks to some villain atack.

Fortunately, he was saved from having to wait until all the mess was cleaned by his sister. Unfortunately, now he had to follow them to the doctor.

And sincerely, he would prefer to live with Hizashi “I Have to Scream Instead of Talk” Yamada than stay in that waiting room with an angry baby and a tired woman.

"So, how is all that hero thing going?” His sister asked, he was still in his costume and she probably was already bored with that magazine.
Osamu also turns to look at him, the angry face drooping to something more curious.

“Fine” He answered.

“You’re going to be one of the rich or one of the batman style?”

“Batman is rich”

She paused for a second before chuckle a little

“Yeah, you’re a nerd one” She finally said

“Everyone knows that”

“I assure you that the wealth of an old fictional character isn’t a thing everyone knows” She said amused while adjusting the baby in her lap

Osamu already got back to his annoyed face, the conversation apparently wasn’t what he expected. Aizawa looked amused at him and the baby threw back an even more angry look to him.

Aizawa Sayuri and Dazai Osamu

The speaker in the room finally announced and his sister got up, Osamu in her arms.

“Want to come?”

Aizawa looked around, old people, a television with the news, some magazines and a low battery cellphone…

“Why not?”

When they entered the room, Osamu almost looked relieved when he saw the doctor, almost like he was expecting someone else.

Osamu didn’t go to the doctor much, and when he goes is always for something specific, like the time he had an ingrown nail that they didn’t notice early because Osamu really didn’t react much to low level pain, so he had to go to some kind of foot doctor. Anyways, what he was saying is that Osamu didn’t have a regular doctor and maybe that was the reason he was so afraid of doctors?

Or maybe he was over looking again, Hizashi says he does it a lot.

“I suppose that Dazai is the little one?” Argh, doctors that made jokes were the worst.

“Yes. Although this one doesn't speak very well too” And of course his sister would go with him. Maybe all the mothers were like that, he didn’t remember her being such a pain when they were young.

“Shut up” He said, like the teenager he was.

The doctor laughed at them and started the consultation. Aizawa didn’t pay much attention, maybe waiting in the waiting room was a better idea.

“Well, there’s nothing physically wrong with Osamu-Kun, maybe it would be better if we did some x-ray tests on his brain…”

With that sentence, Aizawa zoomed back into the conversation, both him and Osamu looked like the last thing they wanted was to spend more time there.

“And how much time would it take?” His sister asked, almost like she sensed their displeasure

“Because of the recent villain attack the x-ray area is pretty loted, so…” He spend some time to think “3 hours at last”

“Shit” Aizawa sighs angrily, three hours here? Without his phone? Normally he was more patient than that, but today was friday and he was too tired for all this.

“Language” Both her and the Doctor said.

“What?” Aizawa asked, confused, she never cared about his language before.

“You didn’t hear the doctor?” No, he didn’t “Osamu is in a delicate phase, if he still didn’t said nothing, is likely that his brain is just acquiring vocabulary”

“Bullshit, babies don’t work like that, do they?” He was even more confused, if it was that why they were there?

“Normally no, but in cases of mutation is very common, but to confirm the x-ray is necessary” The doctor said

“We don’t have any other way to know?” Aizawa asked, massaging his forehead, the tiresome of the day getting to him. His sister didn’t look better.

“It’s not like he would start talking now, so the x-ray is really the only way…”

At that moment, Aizawa saw his error. It was like if he was seeing his life passing in front of his eyes, he turned to look at Osamu, and it was like his eyes were shining, he opened his mouth and there was nothing that Aizawa could do, he was just a spectator, a mere spectator watching the shit hit the fan. Literally.

“SHIT!” Osamu said with all the force of his little lung “BULLSHIT!” He said, digging more of Aizawa’s grave.

His sister eyes were burning of rage

“Well… We don’t need more of that x-ray, right?”

And that is the story of how Aizawa spend two years without swearing

Three Years Old

Osamu and Aizawa were watching TV. It was a beautiful day outside, and if his parents were home, Aizawa probably would be forced to take Osamu to the park, in another stupid tentative to make him socialize with another kids.

But they were out, buying groceries, and then Aizawa and Osamu were watching television and eating ice cream.

“Hey, Shota” The kid called and Aizawa turn to stare at him, Osamu never used any honorific with him, sometimes he said Shota-nii when he wanted to annoy him and Aizawa repaid in the same way, he was only Osamu and when he wanted to annoy the boy he was Osa-chan.

“What? I already Said that you’re not getting ice cream before dinner” Aizawa said, putting another spoon in his mouth. Osamu just rolled his eyes at him

“It’s not that” He said and then pointed at the scream “They're heroes right?”

“Yes”

“I have been trying to understand this for some years, but, what exactly they do?”

“Trying to understand that for some years? You’re three”

“Not the point here”

Aizawa sighs and stops to think for a while, what should he say to the boy? He was a kid and in that age kids normally loved heroes right? Maybe he should say that heroes were saviors and were there to protect him. But Aizawa knew that it was a lie, he was a hero student and knew very well how the hero world really was…

“Wow, and I thought that someone studying to be a hero would know the better answer” Osamu said a little smirk in his face

Aizawa rolled his eyes and then ate a little more of his ice cream

“What do you think that heroes are?”

And then was the time of Osamu to think for a while

“They are supposed to be like the police, but I can’t understand why there is heroes when there is already a police” Osamu answered

Aizawa close his eyes and thought for a while

“You’re right… Although the heroes have more powerful quirks and are there to maintain a moral” Aizawa never thought that he would be having a conversation like that with a three years old.

At that, Osamu looked at him with curiosity

“What are quirks?” He asked and then Aizawa's mind went all blue-screen.

He didn’t know what quirks were? Stopping to think about this, how did he find out about quirks in the first place?

Around that age is what every kid in the playground is talking about… But again, Osamu didn’t have any friends. But also, all the flash heroes on TV with cool powers… But Osamu didn’t like to watch hero things, this time was just because of the urgent news about some A-Rank fight in Tokyo, and if Aizawa wasn’t a hero student, Osamu probably wouldn't even know about heroes.

But Aizawa was sure that at some point kids were in contact with quirks, probably by their parents… But his mother was quirkless, and his grandfather was quirkless too, and his grandmother's quirk wasn’t a flash one, just acting like some kind of fertilizer to flowers, and Aizawa never had a reason to use his quirk in front of Osamu.

Alright, they messed up with Osamu, at last now that he asked, he wasn’t going to have to find a quirk out of the blue, if he had one.

“They’re powers, 80% of the world population has one. They’re mainly genetic and you get one around your fourth or fifth year of life” He said the quick description of a quirk. Normally you wouldn’t say that way for a child, but Osamu was smart and wasn’t going to be satisfied with less.
He looked to process the information for a while

“What is your quirk?”

“How do you know that I have one?”

“You attend a hero school, if you haven’t a quirk then this all wouldn’t make much sense.” He said, like it was obvious, and it was, but damn, Osamu really could make you feel like you’re the most stupid person in the room, and he was only three!

“My quirk is called Erasure” He decided to explain “If it is activated and i’m looking at someone, then this person quirk is going to be annulled, but it doesn't work in mutations”.

At this, Osamu really looked a little surprised, but the surprise didn’t last too long, more years passed and his poker face became better, which was a little worrisome.

“Quirks are genetic, what are the chances that I’m going to have something similar?”

Aizawa was surprised by the question, he wanted to have a nullification quirk? They weren’t exactly popular between kids, Aizawa spent many years alone because of that, only in UA he could find some good friends.

“Nullification quirks are rare, I just know others three in all the world” Aizawa said to the boy “So, I doubt that you’re getting one”

Osamu just smiled at him, as if he knew something that Aizawa didn’t, and then returned to the TV.

Four Years Old

Aizawa was in his room again, his cellphone was at his side, untouched “709 messages not read” in the scream, jezz, Yamada really didn’t stop.

The room was a mess, photos were scattered around the floor, all with a blue haired boy smiling in them. His backpack was in the same place where he threw it last week, all his books on the floor, and at the side was his hero costume, also in the same place that it was last week.

He… He was a mess too, his eyes were still red and this time not because of his quirk, his hair was more messy than normally and he didn’t remember when was the last time he took a bath.

He sighs and buries his face in the pillow, too tired to cry again but still with no forces to do anything else.

Someone knocks at the door and it must be his mom with food. He waits a little, so he can go pick the food without having to face her.

five minutes later he got up and opened the door.

It wasn’t food or his mom, in front of him Osamu was staring at him, his eyes weren’t of pity or sadness, was one with comprehension that almost made him start to cry again, he didn’t need of some kind of wise conversation with some genius kid that even being smart, still was only a four year old.

“Go away Osamu, I’m not in the mood for you today” He said, maybe a little to harsh, and was going to close the door, but the kid was quicker and enter the room

“I’m being serious Osamu, what I’m passing for is not what a child would understand, but I’m asking you to go away” He said while the boy looked around his room

“I know… Know that you’re not going to feel relieved with my presence here” He said, still walking and exploring the room with sharp eyes “Actually, I know that nothing is going to make what you’re feeling go away”

Aizawa was not in the mood for that and was about to pick the child up and yeet him out of his room.

“But I also know that sulking in your room forever is not going to make you feel better, sometimes I also want to hide in my room forever, but I never can, because you never let me alone! Is so annoying! You’re always there to make me eat and play and even when I have to bath! So annoying… ”

“You’re a child, if I let you alone you can die.” He said picking the boy up

“That’s the point!” He didn’t knew what was the point and he didn’t care

“I’m almost an adult and I can make my own choices, thank you” He said putting the child on the other side of the door.
“Bye” He said and slammed the door in his face. Then he threw himself at the bed, finally closing his eyes for a while, the notifications in his cell phone finally stopped.

Aizawa didn’t knew how much time passed during the time he closed his eyes for a while, but he wake up for another knock on his door

“Go Away Osamu!” He yelled burying his face in the pillow again, who that kid thought he was to try to give him some moral lesson?

“Humm, sorry to disappoint but I’m not you little nephew” Aizawa almost jumped out of the bed when he heard that voice, if he was stronger he would have pulled the door of the frame with the force he opened it.

“What are you doing here?” He asked Yamada, the boy was wearing sunglasses and some casual clothes, however instead of being happy and energetic he looked much more like a sad puppy than anything.

“You texted me” He said moving his feet as if he was uncomfortable

“I didn’t” Aizawa said making a grimace

“Yes you did! I didn’t even know where you live!” Aizawa frowned at that, that was true, the only person he knew that visited him before was… He stop the painful thought and redirected his mind back to the conversation

“But I didn’t even touch my phone!” Aizawa turned around to see his phone, which should be in his bed, the same place it was last week, but wasn’t.

Before he could start shouting for Osamu, maybe if he screamed a little at him he would gain some sense, he shouldn’t be using the cellphone of someone without their permission, and his parents weren’t ever going to believe him, Osamu shouldn’t know how to write!
But before he could put action to his thoughts, Yamada pulled him in a hug.

Aizawa first froze at the touch, but then after some seconds he started to cry, he couldn't stop, tears after tears left his eyes and Yamada just stood there hugging him and Aizawa saw himself leaning in the hug.

He didn’t know he needed Yamada so bad before this. He was bad, but Yamada probably was worse, and there was here, being selfish and closing himself off from the world.

“Sorry” He said in the middle of the tears

“You don’t need to apologize” Yamada said, his voice showing that he was also crying “You… I… I’M SO SORRY SHOTA!”

And both stood there crying, and this was the first time since last week that Aizawa felt like his world wasn't burning. For the first time in one week Aizawa stopped to breath, and for the first time he thought that maybe things would be fine.

Five Years Old

Osamu had a quirk, was what Sayuri told them during the dinner.

The child's fourth birthday came and passed long ago, now Osamu wasn’t too far from turning six year old and soon he would be joining school for the first time (And this wasn’t surprising? Aizawa was feeling old, and he was only nineteen!)

During this time no quirk manifested, everyone in the family already supposed that the boy was quirkless like his mother and grandfather, they only needed some confirmation, because of that, Sayuri had taken the boy to the doctor early in the morning.

And apparently, they were wrong.

Aizawa grimaced, great, now he was owing a 500 yen coin to the boy. He could see him smiling from across the dinner table without even looking up.

“Well.. That is a pleasant surprise, right Osamu-chan?” Aizawa’s mother said, smiling at the boy. “I remember when your uncle used his quirk for the first time, when we noticed it was already too late, all the plants in the shop were looking like something out of a horror movie!” She laughed at the memorie.

“I don’t remember this” Aizawa said in his defense, eating more of the rice in his bowl

“It was a very memorable day to us” His father laughed and then turned to talk to Syuri “What is his quirk?”

“We don’t know” She said thoughtful “He haven’t the extra joint and everything, so must be something that needed of a specific situation to work”

“Maybe he is super smart” Aizawa said, he wasn’t going to be surprised if was it, Osamu has always been a smart kid, too smart.

“I said that to the doctor too, but he said that if it was something like that it would had appear in the x-ray of his brain”

“Yeah, I am just special” Osamu said with a playful smile. At that moment Aizawa knew that the boy was very aware of his quirk, he probably already knew what it was and wasn’t telling them just for the kicks.

“That is very true my sweetheart” His mother said chuckling a little “What quirk do you want to have?”

Aizawa stopped eating and looked at his nephew, that was a very childish question, and probably the first time that someone asked something like that to the boy. Aizawa was slightly curious about his answer.

“Hummmm” Osamu put his hand on his chin in a thoughtful way (Looking a little cute) “If I could choose, I would want a power that can control the gravity and make cool things, like destroy an entire building in seconds or fly!”

'Why would you want to destroy a building?' Aizawa thought, almost putting his hand on his face. taking this part out, Osamu’s answer was what he would expect of a five years old, what was suspect.

“I don’t think that a power like that exists” He decided to say, what was true, a quirk as powerful as what Osamu described was something out of imagination.

“Yes… I didn’t think that would” He said looking at his food thoughtfully. Shit, did his answer make the kid sad? Interacting with Osamu for five years sometimes made him forget how kids really were.

“Shota!” His mother scolded him “You can’t say things like that to a child!”

“Don’t be sad Osamu, uncle Shota don’t know what he is talking” His sister said to Osamu “A quirk like that would be amazing”

Aizawa signed, he really was clueless when the subject was children.

“Ignore me, I’m stupid” He said when his sister looked at him angrily “I can never before have listen about a quirk like that, but this only mean that the child with a quirk like that wasn’t discovered yet”

This appeared to cheer up the boy, He really was that affected? Life was full of surprises.

“Yeah, I think you’re right” He said, still looking contemplative

“Well, I’m going back to my home” Aizawa said getting up and putting his bowl in the sink

“Already?” His mother asked, he had moved out some months ago when he joined a hero agency. Currently he was living with Yamada in an apartment at the downton, a perfect place for an underground hero to work.

“Yes, Yamada can’t take care of himself”

“I still remember the time where Hizashi Yamada was your worst nightmare” She laughed, amusement writing all over her face “Now you two are in the path to marriage and two beautfull children!”

“Sorry disappoint, but take care of that one was already too much for me” He appointed at Osamu that only smiled at him

“Alright, you two are in the path to marriage and three cats”

“Five” Aizawa said hiding his amused smile while he walked to the door

“Wait!” Osamu called him and Aizawa turned to see his nephew on his side… Dammit, this kid was quick

“What?”

“I want a ride to the 100 yen shop” The boy demanded

“I thought that you and your mother were going to look for an apartment today” His sister was finally moving out, she decided that now that Osamu was older and was going to join school he didn’t need much supervision.

“I trust her”

“You don’t have money”

“If I remember well, I just win a 500 yen coin” He said smiling at him with his hand extended

That little shit…

“Fine, here” Aizawa signed, putting the coin in his hand. It wasn’t much money, of course, but the humiliation of lost money to a kid was still there.

"Thank You" He said putting the coin in his little pocket “Now take me to the shop!”

“You know that I don’t have a car right? We are going by the subway” He said, trying to shut the boy’s idea down
“I Know, but if you remember, I'm five years old and can’t use the subway alone” He said looking at him as if he was an idiot.

Aizawa signed

“Fine, let’s go” He said opening the door “And behave”

“When did I not behave myself?” Osamu said with that smug smile of him

20 minutes passed since they entered that store, and Osamu was still looking between the same two kitchen knives.

“Osamu, I don’t think you need knives” Aizawa signed, looking at the knives, they were too cheap, probably would break in a few weeks. And besides that, a five years old didn’t need knives.

“I know, cheap knives don’t are worth, but 100 yen is a acceptable price to a temporary knife” Osamu said analyzing the knives

“This isn’t the point Osamu” Aizawa pick the dangerous thing out of his nephew hands and put back at the shelf “You’re too young”

“Fine” He grumple and walked in the direction of the first aid things, only some shelves in front of them.

“Hey kid” Aizawa called him and he only hummed in acknowledgment. “You know what your quirk is, right?”

Osamu didn’t answer, but gave him a look that answered his questions.
“You are that bored then?” Aizawa sighed while he looked into some bandages “Do you want me to guess what it is?”

“Do you want to guess?” Osamu asked, picking a kit of bandages and putting it in his basket cart.

“Why are you buying these things anyway?” Aizawa asked with a raised eyebrow, Osamu was putting a cheap coloring kit, with pencils and a pencil sharpener in the basket.

The kid didn’t even like coloring!

“Some purchases to the new house” Osamu said putting a fake plant in the basket

Aizawa looked thoughtful at him, maybe he was scared of moving out? Cats didn’t act well with sudden changes, kids probably were like that too… Should he comfort Osamu?

“You know that I will still visit you right? Things aren’t going to change too much…” He was interrupted by the door of the shop exploding.

“GIVE ME ALL YOUR MONEY!” A man with fingers that shoot bullets yelled while shooting at the ceiling.

Who the hell robs a 100 yen shop?! The people here didn’t go out with much money! It is literally what a 100 yen store implies!

“Is that a villain?” Osamu had a curious glow in his eyes

“No, you’re staying behind that shelfs and waiting for me” Aizawa said firmly to the boy

"Buzzkill"

Aizawa ignored him at walked to the villain, he wasn’t in his uniform, but he always kept a small version of his capture weapon in his pockets.

The villain was obviously a newbie and Aizawa had two year of practice. As expected, it was easy.

“Are you deaf?! GIVE ME YOUR MONEY!” The man screamed again, now pointing his arm in his direction

Aizawa didn’t say anything, only activated his quirk and advanced in his direction, when the man realized that his quirk didn’t work he was already on the floor, the capture weapon restricting his body.

He turned to the others in the store, that were hiding behind shelves and boxes

“Is everything fine, I’m a pro hero, please go back to what you’re doing while I call the police” He said the normal protocole to this situations, already memorized in his mind “I will only ask you to stay here until the police arrive, they will need to interview you”

Some clients only grumble a little, complaining about having to speak to the police while some thanked him.

“That’s was cool, I think” Osamu said, appearing at his side with a full basket

“Were you shopping while all that happened?” Aizawa looked at his nephew with a mixture of disapproval, preoccupation and anger.
“I’m fine, don’t worry”

“Next time that I tell you to hide, you hide” Aizawa said firmly to him, picking up his cellphone to call the police.

“You really worry too much” Osamu put his basket at the counter and talked to the cashier, that was still surprised, so he just pick the 500 yen coin and give the basket back to Osamu

“Can I stay with this basket?” Osamu asked with a raised eyebrow

“Aham” The man didn’t even register, maybe the shock of having your little business robbed was really too much for the man.

“Nice!”

“No, not nice” Aizawa rolled his eyes and put the basket back at the counter, at the same time some sirens could be heard, telling them that the police were there. “Put your things in a bag while I talk to the police”

And then Aizawa left the shop, dragging the criminal with him.

“You’re the pro-hero?” The officer leaving his car asked to Aizawa

“Yes” Aizawa said quickly showing him his hero ID

“Good job there… Eraserhead” The man read his hero name and then smiled “I can tell you’re going to be a good hero with a name like that!”

“What my name…”

“Here, give me an autograph!” The man pulled a little notebook and a pen

Aizawa stared at him in confusion, but after a second of hesitation pick the pen and write his hero name in the paper

“Here…” He gave the notebook back to the man and stopped without knowing what to say. Should he thank him?

“Look at that! My uncle is all famous! Should I get an autograph too?” Osamu saved him of more awkward interaction

“No” He answered the boy “Let’s go home now, I still have to pass at my mother’s again and today was supossed to be my day off”

"You complain too much, Eraserhead”

“Don’t call me that”

“It's a bad name, you know that, right?”

“It’s not”

“Did your boyfriend choose that?”

“Shut up Osamu”

Six Years Old

Has been a while since Aizawa saw his nephew.

What was a strange thing, since they were neighbors.

When Aizawa discovered that his sister was planning to move to the same apartment as him he finally realized that she was never letting him resign from his non-official job as babysitter.

However, he almost never saw them. Half a year has passed and he was certain that he had only seen Osamu three times.

One when they move

Another when Osamu was trying to steal his cats

And the last time when the boy was going to school and he was taking the trash out.

The reason for that was that Aizawa was a busy man. He was a pro hero for only two years, working for four (Since he was in the second year and started his internship) and being an underground hero has its costs.

He worked all night, slept during the mornings, worked on his paperwork in the evening and trained during his breaks. During that, Osamu was in school for eight hours and when he was at home the boy almost disappeared completely.

Sayuri had it worse, she worked full day, Monday to Saturday, starting at 6 am and finishing at 20 pm. She also took the extra hours and worked during the night on most days of the week. When she was at home she just had time to sleep.

She probably saw Osamu less than he did.

All that was probably what made her ask him for help.

“You two were always too close, Aizawa” She told him that morning, he was going back home to sleep after a hard night and she was going to work.

“I don’t think we were that close”

“But you were! Osamu spent all his time with you!”

“Someone had to take care of him…”

“He probably thinks of you more like a parent than me” She signed tired, sitting on the sidewalk. Aizawa sit on her side

“That’s not true, Osamu don’t think on anyone as a parent” He said, trying to comfort her

“Did I fail with him?” She buried her face on her hands

“He’s six Sayu, it’s impossible that you already messed up”

“I know… But Osamu is not a normal kid” She opened her purse and picked a chocolate bar, starting to eat immediately

“You could say that” Aizawa refused the chocolate when she offered.

“I almost never see him! I don’t know if he’s okay!” She cried while eating another piece of chocolate “He doesn't have friends! Imagine if he is being bullied because of his quirk?”

Osamu's quirk was called “Neutralized”, after weeks trying to guess what his quirk was, the boy finally told them that he already knew. After going to a doctor and registering his quirk (‘We aren’t putting “No longer human” as your quirk name, Osamu’) he was officially one of the four people in the world with a nullification quirk, a powerful one nothless. No quirk worked in Osamu and when touching him someone would be unable to use a quirk. The downside of this quirk was that it was always activated and could not be deactivated.

Aizawa could understand Sayuri preoccupation, Aizawa already had a bad time in school because of his quirk, and erasure could be deactivated.

“Osamu is not the type of kid that would let bullies affect him” Aizawa said the truth, Osamu was smart and had an… unique personality, the boy had more chances of starting a fight than letting himself be bullied.

“I don’t even know what type of kid he is!” She cried louder

Now Aizawa didn’t know what to do! Yamada was better at dealing with crying people!

“Sayuri… This is about what? Did something happen to make you concerned?”

She stopped crying and eat the last piece of chocolate

“Osamu is distant” She said, picking a tissue to dry her eyes “He never talks, is always in his room, doesn't have friends… Six years old aren’t supposed to be like this!”

“That’s true…”

“Shota, talk to my baby, please?” She asked, looking at him with tears in her eyes

“Why me? You can’t talk with him?”

“You’re his favorite uncle…”

“I’m his only uncle”

“Shota!” She yelled at him and more tears appeared in her eyes “Please?”

Shota signed

“Fine”

And this is the reason that Osamu is with him on the rooftop.

Aizawa liked to use the rooftop as his training area, almost no one use the rooftop, since it wasn’t a interesting space at all, just a rooftop, no chairs, dirty and unsanitary, it wasn’t a surprise that only him and the smoker in the second floor liked to use that space.

It was a good place to train his moves, he just had to move his boxing bag there and relax.
“Why am I here?” Osamu, who until now was sitting in the plastic chair Aizawa picked for him reading a book, said looking uninterested.

“It’s Saturday, I thought you could get some air” Aizawa said finishing his warming-up

The kid obviously didn’t buy it.

“There is air inside, you know” He said going back to his book

“Don’t act smart on me, you know what I mean” He said, preparing his punch bag.

“Aham” Osamu turned to another page of his book “You wanted to talk to me” He didn’t ask, Osamu was sure of this fact.

“How School is going?” He asked, starting his normal routine

“Boring”

“For you I suppose it is” Aizawa kicked the bag with force “Made some friends?”

“You know the answer to that” Osamu rolled his eyes “Why don’t you go straight to what you want? I really would prefer to be in my room right now”

“Aren’t you too early to the rebel teenager phase?” Aizawa raised his eyebrow, Osamu didn’t answer him, just looked at his book in total silence. Aizawa signed “Some years ago you told me that you would prefer to hide in your room forever…”

“That is still true”

“But, me taking care of you made you feel better” Aizawa finished, ignoring the boy's statement.

“I said it was annoying, remember? A-N-N-O-Y-I-N-G” Osamu spelled

“You can spell?”

“Not the point here, Shota”

“Why am I even surprised?”

“The point is that I already spent six years in this place and if I want to stay in my room forever, I can” The boy proclaimed, for the first time in his life really looking angry at Aizawa

“Six years in this place?” Aizawa stopped, taken back by his words “You mean alive?”

“Yes! Too many years alive!” He snorted and looked back to his book, indicating that he wanted to finish that discussion

Aizawa looked at him with a look of puzzlement in his face. Osamu was too young to feel like that. But he also was too young to know how to spell, how to read or how to maintain a serious conversation.

Aizawa didn’t know what was wrong with his nephew, and maybe he would never know. Sometimes he just looks too old for a six years old, but this didn’t mean that he could take care of himself.

On the contrary, This only meant that Osamu needed even more of him.

“Come here” He called the boy, Osamu looked up at him confused, his glance darting around, as if looking for answers.

“For what?”

“Just come”

Osamu signed but still closed his book and got up. The rooftop was small, so he quickly was in front of him.

“So… What now?”

Aizawa also didn’t know what he was doing, but he hoped that it would work.

“Let me teach you how to throw a punch” He said after some time, Osamu looked at him with a raised eyebrow

“I know how to throw a punch” The kid said with confidence

"Really? Show me then”

Aizawa didn’t expect Osamu to know how to punch someone, a lot of people thought that punch was simple and everyone that thinks like that would end with a broken hand one day.

However, to his surprise, the kid wasn’t lying. Osamu knew how to punch, he didn’t commit any newbie error, the force was obviously notting, he was still a six years old, but the formation was almost perfect.
“See, I know how to punch”

“What isn’t worrisome at all” He said with his hand on his chin. Osamu was really full of surprises. Well this wasn’t all the ideas he had “And a kick? Can you do that?”

Osamu frowned at that, looking a little thoughtful

“I’m not very good with martial arts” He looked as if he was remembering something, maybe Sayuri tried to put him in some martial arts classes?

“That could change” Aizawa smiled at him “Here, see how I do…”

They didn’t talk about the previous conversation, however, Aizawa thought for a while that maybe it was ok, training with his nephew was funny and they meet for this purpose once a week after that day.

Osamu was going to be fine, he thought.

Seven Years Old

It was Saturday, and usually on Saturdays Aizawa and Osamu were at the rooftop spending some Uncle-Nephew time and training. However, today was an unusual day, Yamada had decided that they should go out together, the three of them.

Neither Aizawa or Osamu were excited with that idea.

Both Aizawa and Osamu liked to spend their days off sleeping, however, Yamada always had preferred go out with his friends, to drink, to sing at a karaoke or even to a hero theme park, where he would spent hours taking selfies with his fans, he was a recent hero, however his radio show was much older (He started when he was 13) and very popular.

Often he would try to drag Aizawa with him, and the man was already used to this, since Aizawa quite deserved that for falling in love with an extrovert, he just accepted and would go with him most of the time.

However, Osamu wasn’t expecting to be literally carried by his uncle's boyfriend to his car, the boy spent almost four minutes talking about kidnappings and just calmed down after Aizawa threatened him, just a “Yamada, what do you think about going to the Karaoke?” and Osamu shutted up.

After all the disaster that the car drive was…

(“Can I choose the music?” “Of course, little listener!” “No, He can’t”)

(“Let’s play I spy with my little eyes!” “I Spy with my little eyes a stinky homeless man” “Hum… I don’t think I see that…” “Ha, sorry, was just Shota” “I’m going to kick you out of this car” “Please!”)

(“I need to pee!” “Well, we can stop at…” “He’s lying, he used the bathroom before we left and I know that he can hold it for almost 6 hours” “But Shota! Why would he lie about that?” “Because he’s a little shit and is going to disappear in the moment we take our eyes out of him” “Wow Shota-nii, you know me so well!”)

After the most horrible car drive Shota had, they were now in their destination, the tourist part of Musutafu.

Being the city where UA was, Musutafu was the second favorite tourist destination of Japan, losing only to Tokyo. So you can guess that the tourist part of the city was a great place to visit, the food was amazing, you could see a lot of pro heroes taking selfies with fans and a lot of shopping places, almost all of them with the hero thematic.

In the beginning Aizawa thought that it was a bad idea, Osamu didn’t like heroes, he never was that type of kid, he also didn’t like crowded places. However, the tourist area of Musutafu was also famous for the diversity of shops and things to do. Aizawa knew what Osamu didn’t like but he had no idea of what he liked. So a place with things that vary from personalized crepes shops to an All Might themed laser tag was the best idea he had.

And even if Osamu didn’t like to go out, the man could see that the kid needed it, recently he was being even more unhappy than normally.

“Well, see something that you like?” Aizawa asked the boy while they walked around the place, since it was Saturday the streets were even more crowded.

Osamu looked around uninterested, he was doing this for the last 20 minutes, Yamada already had disappeared to buy some Endeavor themed Ice Cream (Really who thought that an Ice Cream brand about a fire quirk Hero was a good idea?) and now Shota was alone with the bored kid, Osamu didn’t even look at the All Might Laser Tag and Aizawa actually thought that he might like that.

“Nope, I'm not very in the mood today” The boy sit down in a colorful bench with All Might face in it

“You’re never in the mood” Aizawa sat at his side and offered in the water bottle in his hands, the boy refused with a hand movement and Aizawa drinked it, thinking about what to say now. “There is something bothering you recently?”

Osamu stayed in silence, both enjoying the breeze that passed by them for a second.

The boy looked to the sky, thoughtful and looking a little mournful for a moment.

“I don’t know what to think… Why am I here and if this is a punishment or a second chance? '' Osamu finally said after a while, and as usual, his words didn’t make much sense. “Why of all people, I deserve this?” He looked almost hurt, why did he of all people deserve what? A punishment or a second chance?

And as usual, Aizawa didn’t know what to say, what he should do to make his nephew happy. Sometimes he thought if it wasn’t going to be better if Osamu was just a normal kid, all that intellect and for what? To make him question his place in the universe at the age of seven?

“I don’t know, what do you wanna do?” Aizawa said and Osamu turned to look at him, a raised eyebrow and a confused expression on his face “Osamu, it isn’t important if you deserve something or not, I don’t know what you mean at all… But what I know is that you’re Dazai Osamu and in this moment you’re with you two disaster of uncles trying to be a normal child” He threw the empty water bottle at the trash can with precision and then finally turn to the boy “I will ask again, what do you wanna do right now in this moment, Osamu?”

Osamu looked at him, only stared, his eyes or face didn’t show anything. Finally after a awkward minute he signed

“I wanna play at the arcade” He said with a little smile on his lips.

“So we are going to do this” Aizawa got up and looked around, trying to localize Yamada in the crowd “Let’s find Yamada and then take you to lose at the arcade”

Osamu almost huffed at that

“I never lose in a game”

“You’re never been in an arcade”

“So? I’m going to beat you in everything they have”

“Haha, wanna bet?”

“1000 yen”

“You’re on”

(Aizawa lost both his money and pride in that day)

Eight Years Old

Osamu was in the hospital.

When Aizawa and Yamada got there the surgery was already over, Sayuri and his parents were dying of preoccupation, as quirks didn’t work in the boy, the old medical processes were used in him.

Aizawa was also worried, but he wasn’t going to let this affect him. He was a pro-hero and hadn't slept in 48 hours, he was fine.

“How is the little listener?” Yamada asked, he probably was worse than him, his boyfriend loves kids and even with Osamu being a little shit, Yamada still quickly got attached to him.

“The doctors said it was successful, they are moving him to his room right now” His mother said to them a little bag with a flower on her hands.

“What happened?” He asked his sister, she was eating a bag of cheetos at an alarming velocity.

“His eye… It’s bad, the doctors said that he is going to be fine but his left eye isn’t going to recover vision” She looked as tired as Aizawa, which was a bad signal.

“How did this happen?” Yamada asked, all his normally happy personality gone

His sister looked away, avoiding their eyes

“We don’t know” His father said putting a hand in his daughter shoulder “Sayuri said that the school just called her to tell that Osamu was already in the hospital”

They stayed in silence after that, the atmosphere in the room just getting worse with time. Finally a doctor appear

“Dazai is stable, but he’s going to be sleeping for a time” The doctor said and all the family looked to relax at the same time

“Can we stay in his room?” His mother asked worried, her hands holding the flower vase with force

“Since Dazai has a bad immune system and we can’t use quirks on him we are going to ask to visit him in pairs”

“That’s ok, Sayuri you and your mother…” His father started do say

“Shota, can you come with me?” She asked her brother and Aizawa looked at her with a raised eyebrow, a little confused with the request.

“Fine for me” He decided to say, getting up to follow her.

They walked in an awkward silence to Osamu's room. Aizawa didn’t really want to start a conversation, knowing that useless chit chat wasn’t going to make her feel better.

Sayuri only started talking when they were already in the room.

Osamu was in the bed, the small kid looked even smaller in the hospital gown and with the IVS in his arm. His head was covered with bandages, covering his left eye and his arms.

Sayuri look at him for some time before start talking

“The doctor thinks that he did it to himself”

Aizawa’s muscles were rigid in a stant, he wasn’t the type of guy that demonstrated much emotion, however, this time he looked at his sister with wider eyes.

Osamu did that to himself? No eight years old would… But again, Osamu wasn’t a normal kid, maybe they were ignoring this part of the boy way too much.

He was ignoring this.

His sister had asked him for help and he thought that it was fine! But as the years passed, Osamu looked more sad, looked like something was missing in his life and Aizawa wanted so much to understand what was happening with him.

“Shota” His sister put her hands on his shoulder in a comforting way, what was wrong. Aizawa should be the one comforting her, asking for forgiveness for being such a bad brother when she needed it. Was her son in the bed after all.

“Sorry, I should be looking more after him…”

“Shota this isn’t your fault” She said sitting in the chair at the side of Osamu’s bed “The doctor said that probably is something related to his quirk”

“His quirk?”

“Quirks that are always activated have their downsides. The doctor said that he doesn’t understand much of quirks but recommended a doctor for us” She said picking a card out of her pocket

“A quirk doctor to Osamu?” Aizawa raised a eyebrow “He don’t like much of doctors”

“I know… But I really want to know what is wrong with my baby” She hold his little hands and looked on the verge of tears

“Who is the doctor?” He decided to ask after some silence, if this was to help Osamu…

She hand the card to Aizawa that give a quick read

“The first thing i’m going to do after going out of here is calling him” She said, now confident in her voice “I’m going to try to be a better mom do Osamu and at least help him in this way”

Aizawa put the card in his pocket and his hand on her shoulders, now giving his conforty to her.

“The things are going to be fine, Sayu” He said to her, he didn’t know if the things were going to be fine but he only could hope “I’m sure that this… Doctor Mori Ougai can help Osamu.”

“I hope that he can”

While both brothers hugged each other in confort, Osamu at the bed opened his eye. Disbelief was written all over his face.

One thing he could be sure of at that moment, the things would change from now on.
