Work Text:

It’d been far too long since the last time the two of them had a moment's peace together. They'd hardly even found the time to just enjoy each other’s company as they completed report after report, due to the presence of the 501st and their Jedi. As much as Cody loved the opportunity to see Rex regularly, Anakin and Ahsoka were dramatically attached to the 212th’s general, meaning that wherever he went, his two descendants were never far behind. As sweet as it was, Cody would be lying if he said it wasn’t having an impact on his new and confusing relationship with Obi-Wan. It seemed they’d both been pining after one another for a while and had finally confronted their feelings after Obi-Wan’s undercover mission with the bounty hunters. The memories of those few weeks still haunted him. The agonising loss he felt when Rex broke the news to him. He’d just… shut down. Going about his life almost without a purpose as he attempted to come to terms with what he’d lost. Not just a general, or a friend, but unspoken feelings that would never be unearthed due to his cowardice. Then one day, as Cody was trying to patch the persistent numbness with a cup of Obi-Wan's favourite tea, a gift from the general that he had started to dwindle in his absence, Obi-Wan had burst back into his life with a characteristically restrained knock at his door. It was as if the sun itself had burst into Cody's humble quarters, banishing the cold, lonely feeling that had haunted him like a ghost since he'd learned of Obi-Wan's alleged death.. He still remembered the shattering of the cup on his floor as the man he loved walked back into his life, with a casual “Hello there” as if he hadn’t just arisen from the dead. The way Cody had screamed in pain at his general, the first time he ever spoke out of turn to a commanding officer. And then… then when all the anger had left him, all he had left was the need to pull the Jedi close and tell him how much he needed him. So that’s exactly what he’d done.

Weeks later, it was all still fresh; moments of lingering touches and meaningful gazes which made Cody want to whisk them both away from prying eyes for a few moments.

Thankfully, they’d somehow managed to escape the others for the time being in Obi-Wan’s quarters, under the guise that they’d be filling out reports for the evening, also known as a sure fire way for General Skywalker to lose interest in them for a few hours. For once the Commander was thankful for Skywalker’s lack of professionalism.

Cody pulled Obi-Wan close, chuckling at the man’s surprised yelp. Everything about Obi-Wan was intoxicating, the sparkle in his pretty blue eyes, the way his face relaxed in a way that only Cody got to see. He was perfect. The Commander still could pinch himself over how lucky he was. He wasn’t supposed to have this. He was born in a lab to follow orders and fight wars, but in the midst of all the chaos of his inevitably short life, he’d found this shining light that promised him he could be so much more than what he thought. Now he’d reached that light source, he’d hold onto him with everything he had.

“Everything okay, my dear?” Obi-Wan questioned in a soft voice as he broke the silence. The man’s hand reached up to cradle Cody’s cheek, his palms rough and calloused from years of wielding his lightsaber.

Not having any words, Cody dipped down and pressed his lips to Obi-Wan’s. They were rough against one another due to lack of self care during the war, but Cody wouldn’t have it any other way. He raised his hands up into his lover’s fair hair, clutching slightly in the way he knew would have the Jedi sighing against him. Just as Obi-Wan’s hand slipped lower and lower down Cody’s back, the door to his quarters burst open, making the pair jump apart like two spooked tookas.

Anakin and Ahsoka came strolling in like they owned the place, eyes on each other as they argued about something that Cody couldn’t decipher, while the trooper tried to will his body to calm down after having been so close to his lover. The fact that he was standing there in just his blacks, offering no protection, was a lot. He clasped his hands in front of himself to try and save some of his dignity.

“Ahsoka that’s not what I-”

“Oh please, Obi-Wan will you tell SkyGuy over here that-” she cut herself off from her rant as her eyes laid onto Cody. “Oh, hey Cody, didn’t realise the armour ever came off. Anyway, Obi-Wan, Anakin thinks that….” Cody stopped listening as he looked up at the ceiling and cursed the Maker for doing this to him. What in nine Corellian Hells have I done to deserve this? He was a good man, he fought hard to protect the Republic, his brothers and the Jedi. Putting aside entering a very unprofessional and most likely illegal relationship with his general, he’d been on the straight and narrow for the whole decade of his existence. This was how the galaxy was punishing him for wanting something he shouldn’t have, by dangling it right in front of him only for Anakin karking Skywalker to unknowingly torture him with his lack of awareness of his surroundings.

He looked over at Obi-Wan who’d been huddled by the two bickering members of his lineage, those little lines in the man’s forehead, which he’d been told had formed around Anakin’s teenage years, had returned with a vengeance as he rubbed at them with his hand. He was the picture of an exasperated parent and it nearly made Cody chuckle. At least he’s suffering with me.

“Anakin, will you please apologise to Ahsoka for saying that she has the grace of a Bantha while doing her katas?”

“Can’t apologise for the truth,” the knight muttered under his breath, causing the Togruta to his left to glare daggers at him before sticking an elbow in his side. Cody watched as Obi-Wan gave the younger man a pointed look, his no nonsense look if the clone wasn’t mistaken, which finally pressured Anakin into giving whatever apology Obi-Wan deemed necessary.

Ahsoka now looked like the tooka who got the blue milk, a grin splitting her face and showing off her fangs, while Anakin looked more akin to a sulky teenager than a general of a battalion in the GAR. The padawan turned to face Cody, her glee making her eyes twinkle with mischief. “You heard it here first, Codes. Anakin Skywalker has officially admitted he was wrong about something. Savour this moment, mark the date in your weirdly colour coded calendar, bask in this once in a lifetime opportunity.”

As much as he tried to fight it, Cody couldn’t stop the lopsided grin from making its way onto his face at the young Togruta. “The men will never believe it, Commander.”

After a few more minutes of gloating from Ahsoka, the two young Jedi were ushered out of Kenobi’s quarters. The moment they were out the door, Cody let out a breath he didn’t realise he’d been holding. With a look of amusement, Obi-Wan finally made his way back over to him.

“You need to learn to lock your door,” Cody said with a chuckle as the Jedi finally resumed their kiss, dragging his tongue along Cody’s lower lip, teasing him, and the soldier couldn’t get enough.

Obi-Wan had taken to kissing down his neck, finding all the spots that made Cody sigh in pleasure, “Oh how I would love to take my time with you,” Obi-Wan admitted as his teeth grazed the shell of the commander’s ear. The Jedi knew him terrifyingly well. His entire body felt like a live wire with the way the Obi-Wan’s lips teased the sensitive skin above his blacks. “I don’t think time’s a luxury we can afford, General,” Cody breathed out, hoping to spur the man on to speed things up a bit.

“Lacking patience? I expected more from you, my dear Commander,” Obi-Wan teased before returning to kissing Cody deeply, their tongues battling for dominance as things finally took a step in the right direction. Cody backed the Jedi up until Obi-Wan was flush against the wall. He felt it as the man smirked against his lips in satisfaction at having riled him up to this point. Insufferable Jedi.

A knock on the door made them break apart again and Cody gave a frustrated sigh while Obi-Wan called out for the person to enter as he fixed his hair once more. The door opened to reveal a tired looking Rex who smiled at the pair.

“Hi General, apologies for the interruption, but I’m afraid I need to talk over a few things with Cody before our next campaign.” The 212th leaders looked at one another for a split second, understanding passing between them that their little time of privacy this evening had officially died a brutal death.

“Of course. I’ll meet you on the bridge in five,” Cody replied, doing his best to hide his disappointment. It escaped Rex, but not quite Obi-Wan, who gave him a sad smile.

Rex bid them farewell and went up to the bridge, leaving Cody time to throw his armour back on.

“It seems we can’t find a moment’s peace during our shifts,” Obi-Wan pondered as he used his right thumb and index finger to stroke his beard.

Cody turned around to face the man. While his aloud thoughts were innocent enough, Cody could sense the underlying point in his words, causing a light smirk to grace his features. “Are you suggesting sneaking around under the cover of darkness while the troops are sleeping? I think you’re starting to sound like a lovestruck teenager, Master Jedi,” he teased as he stroked the back of Obi-Wan’s fair hand with his thumb. “Looks like i’ll be back at 0100 standard then, try not to fall asleep without me.”

“I wouldn’t dream of it,” the Jedi flirted back smoothly. Cody couldn’t help it as he took in everything that Obi-Wan was.

He leaned down to give the man a quick kiss goodbye before he leaned his forehead against Obi-Wan’s, a content smile gracing his face as they shared a tender moment. “See you soon.”
