Unfamiliar Traditions

Summary:

Sukuna doesn’t really understand Christmas traditions, nor does he care for them. Maybe you can change his mind?

Work Text:

“That’s an idiotic thing to do.”

Of course, he’d complain.

With a roll of your eyes, you turn around, facing the curse that has made your boyfriend’s body his new vessel.

There’s a disgruntled expression on his face, an arm thrown over the back of the sofa he is currently sitting on and his head is tipped to the side in a relaxed manner.

It’s almost something to marvel at if you think about it. Someone like Sukuna, who is feared by many, showing himself to you in such a way that one would never assume the man could do anything bad.

You take a deep breath, before shooting him a question, deciding to humor him this once, “And why is it an idiotic thing to do?”

“Why would you put a stupid tree inside your house, brat? It’ll end up making a mess and it looks ugly anyway,” Sukuna inquires, clearly not asking for an answer.

His tone is condescending, as if to underline how much he looks down on the idea of a Christmas tree.

Lips pulling into an offended pout, you shake your head.

“It’s not decorated yet. You put a tree up as a celebratory symbol. Most people just put it up because it’s a tradition and you decorate your whole house. It puts you in the proper holiday mood, don’t you think so too?” you ask while you start to decorate your empty tree.

“Tch, it just looks tacky,” comes the reply and you decide to just drop it, not in the mood to try and convince him of the beauty of your Christmas decorations.

Surprisingly enough, the both of you fall into a comfortable silence. For a little while, you think that maybe turning your back on someone like him might not be the best idea, but when you try to sneakily turn your head and take a glance at the curse, you catch him already looking at you.

Undeterred by your surprise at this simple fact, Sukuna keeps his gaze focused on you. Dark red eyes seem to see right through you and you feel vulnerable.

Being on the receiving end of his undivided attention and seeing how calm and unreadable his expression is, makes you fidget.

Heat crawls up your face and your ears burn as you turn your back to him again.

Busying yourself with decorating the tree again, you can’t shake the shivers that run down your spine as you think about those eyes still looking at you.

Soon enough, not much of the tree is left bare and you tilt your head up, looking at the top of the tree. Stretching up, you try to put the decorations on the branches at the top of the tree, struggling to reach them without anything to stand on.

A bigger tree seemed like a good idea at first, but now you aren’t so sure about that anymore. Suddenly there’s a familiar warmth at your back and a hand grabs the decoration out of your hand, hanging them on the branches for you.

One after one, the decorations are hung up and Sukuna moves to wrap his free arm around your shoulder from behind.

He does it in a very nonchalant way that almost makes you forget that he’d be able to snap your neck in an instant if he felt like it.

Sukuna feels you freeze up and a grin spreads across his face. “What? Scared, little one? Even though I helped you with your little decorating game?” he inquires, his breath hot against your neck.

You feel like a small animal trapped in a predator’s hold, waiting for the deadly bite that’ll end your life.

A shudder racks through your body, yet you shake your head in defiance. Leaning forward you turn on the string lights that hang on the Christmas tree, illuminating the room in many colorful little lights.

This little show of resistance seems to entertain the king of curses and you hear him chuckle lowly before he tightens his hold on you. His hand grabs your chin and turns your face towards him.

His face is awfully close and while you’re very familiar with your boyfriend’s face, the fact that this is Sukuna makes you nervous.

The closeness causes his breath to fan across your face and your widened eyes slowly get used to the proximity.

Your gaze flits to his lips and your breath accelerates – he notices.

A smirk tugs at the corners of his lips and he leans forward to capture your lips in a kiss. It’s heated, passionate, and yet it’s unlike anything you expected.

You thought he’d be rough, but he’s being surprisingly gentle with you.

As his lips part from yours after a while, you’re sure it’s written on your face how much you crave another kiss.

His thumb traces over your jaw and he quietly regards you. Your face is illuminated by the colorful lights of the Christmas tree and they add a certain glow to your face.

He isn’t one to be sentimental, but you do look very enticing to him at this very moment.

Sukuna hums, “Maybe these stupid traditions do have their perks after all.”

With that, he leans back in to press his lips against yours once more.
