Work Text:
Tonight is supposed to be date night for Ryan and Sophie, but Ryan is just so tired. She has had a busy week dealing with the board at Wayne Enterprises and dealing with the criminal underbelly of the Gotham streets. She has barely been able to get much sleep this week between her two endeavors; she is exhausted. Another downside to being so busy with work is that Ryan and Sophie haven’t had a lot of alone time together. Sophie has her own work during the day, so they don’t always get to see each other, and working in the Batcave doesn’t exactly scream “date night” so even though they do get to see each other often, it isn't the same.
Even when the pair doesn’t get to spend time together during the day, they try to at least spend the night together. Those nights tend to be them just sleeping beside each other, which is better than nothing just so they can be together. However, recently their schedules have been so crazy that they’ve been sleeping more at their own places separately. They try to be considerate of each other’s schedules and the late nights they keep and not try to keep the other from getting a full night’s sleep.
They even try Facetiming each other before bed, and they sometimes fall asleep on the phone together, but it isn’t the same. It’s one thing for Ryan to get to watch Sophie sleep through the phone and a whole nother thing for Ryan to wake up in Sophie’s arms with her asleep beside her. To be honest, Sophie is usually the one getting to watch Ryan sleep since Sophie is an earlier riser but on those days that Ryan does wake up before Sophie, she loves getting to watch the other woman sleep. Sophie always seems to have everything under control and tries her best to seem unfazed and collected for the sake of the team, but Ryan knows that’s she’s more stressed than she lets on, so when Sophie sleeps, it’s one of the few times Ryan gets to see Sophie completely at peace and carefree.
It’s Saturday, and Ryan has decided to take the day off of Batwoman duties and is leaving Luke and Mary to man the Batcave and take care of the city for the day. Sophie is spending the day with Jordan, helping out at the community center. They are supposed to go to brunch later, but all Ryan really wants to do is cuddle with her girlfriend and go to sleep. She slept at her own place last night since she and Luke didn’t get finished until around 3AM last night, and she didn’t want to go to Sophie’s and wake her up, but tonight Ryan is determined to get to sleep in the same bed as Sophie. The first step in making that happen is already in motion as Ryan uses the key Sophie gave her to let herself into Sophie’s condo.
Ryan makes herself comfortable as she drops the groceries she picked up on the way over, in the kitchen and then dropped her bag in Sophie’s bedroom. She has always loved spending time at Sophie’s place. The place screams Sophie Moore, and Ryan loves being wrapped up in everything that is her girlfriend. Even when Sophie isn’t there, Ryan likes to put on one of Sophie’s hoodies and bury herself in the bed while she waits for Sophie to get home which is what she does.
Ryan changes into a pair of leggings and one of Sophie’s oversized Point Rock hoodies but lays across the couch instead of in the bed. She doesn’t want to be in the bed without being able to wrap herself around Sophie. She grabs the mug of tea she made for herself, the blanket from the back of the couch, and wraps herself up and turns on the television to watch whatever cheesy rom-com is on Lifetime.
About an hour into the movie Ryan is laid across the couch, wrapped in the blanket, and barely awake when her phone rings. She grabs it off the coffee table in front of her and sees an incoming Facetime call from Sophie. She answers the phone, still wrapped up in the blanket, the only thing visible is her face and the one hand holding the phone.
“Hey babe, how are things at the center?” Ryan can’t help the smile that crosses her face just getting to see Sophie on her screen. Nothing will ever beat getting to see that gorgeous face in front of her, but Facetime is a sufficient replacement.
“Everything’s good here, we might actually get to wrap up early…wait, are you on my couch?” Sophie asks.
“Yes. I wanted to be here when you got home. I miss you, and we should skip brunch and you should just come home. I want to cuddle, so hurry up and get here.” Ryan pouts back at Sophie who just rolls her eyes and smiles back at Ryan. Sophie would be lying if she said she didn’t miss Ryan too and wanted to cuddle. Their schedules have been so crazy lately, and she misses having Ryan wrapped up in her arms and laying on her chest while they sleep.
“I’ll be there soon, don’t worry, I promise.” Sophie is going to do whatever she can to make sure she gets to Ryan as soon as she can.
“Hey, sister-in-law!” Jordan pops up on the screen behind Sophie’s shoulder, waving frantically at Ryan.
“Hi Jordan,” Ryan responds. Ever since Jordan found out about her and Sophie finally getting together, Jordan will not call her anything other than sister-in-law. Ryan kind of likes it honestly. She always wanted a little sister, and Jordan has gladly stepped into the role for Ryan.
“Are you going to let your sister leave any time soon? I would really like to see her sometime soon.” Ryan knows that if she’s the one to ask, Jordan will do whatever she wants. Jordan is that annoying little sister that Ryan always wanted, but she is also the biggest supporter of her and Sophie's relationship. She would literally do anything within her power to make the Wildmoore ship sail.
“She’ll be home in 10 minutes, I promise! Go ahead Soph, don’t leave my sister-in-law waiting.” Jordan kisses Sophie on the cheek and moves out of the frame of the phone.
“Bye Soph. Call me later.” Ryan hears Jordan yell in the background.
“I’ll be there in 10 minutes, have my spot ready when I get there.”
Ryan pulls the phone back so she can show herself lifting the covers showing Sophie that she has a spot ready for her already.
“You know I always have a spot ready for you; now hurry up before it gets cold.” They hang up the phone, and Ryan makes herself comfortable and waits happily for her girlfriend to get home. Ryan has never been so excited to see Sophie as she is right now.
Ten minutes later, just as Ryan is about to drift off to sleep, she hears the front door open and the sound of Sophie leaving her boots by the door. She doesn’t sit up, but as Sophie’s footsteps get closer to her, she moves the covers so that she’s created space for Sophie to slide under the covers with her.
“Hey babe,” Sophie whispers. She isn’t sure if Ryan is asleep already, so she walks around the couch as quietly as she can, just in case. Sophie sees that Ryan isn’t asleep and is looking up at her with those big doe eyes. She can see how exhausted Ryan is, but Sophie can’t help but think that Ryan is the most beautiful woman she’s ever seen. She notices that Ryan is in one of her hoodies too, which Sophie loves, Ryan is so small that whenever she wears anything of Sophie’s it swallows her whole but she looks so happy and so comfortable that Sophie could never make fun of her being buried in her clothes.
Sophie kneels in front of the couch and kisses Ryan on the forehead.
“Your spot is ready for you.” Ryan pulls the blanket back more. Sophie stands up and walks off, leaving Ryan confused and a little sad. Her girlfriend is finally home, and all she wants to do is cuddle with her and take a nap, but it seems like her girlfriend doesn’t want to lay with her.
“Where are you going?” Ryan asks, rolling over to follow Sophie’s movements. She hates that her question comes out sounding like a whine, but her girlfriend just left her, and she’s upset.
Turning around at the sound of Ryan’s voice, Sophie goes back to kneeling in front of Ryan again.
“I just need to get out of these jeans, and I promise I’ll be right back; all I need is 5 minutes, I promise.” Ryan nods but still looks at Sophie pouting. Sophie can’t help but find the face adorable and kisses Ryan before going back towards her bedroom to change.
It doesn’t even take five minutes for Sophie to come back in her own sweatpants and hoodie combo and her hair wrapped up in her scarf, ready to lay with Ryan.
“Scoot up some,” Sophie asks. Ryan slides closer to the edge of the couch, and Sophie unwraps the blanket so she can slide in behind Ryan and wrap herself in the blanket as well.
As soon as Ryan feels Sophie’s arms wrap around her, she feels herself relax in a way she hasn’t in days. Sophie pulls her in close so their bodies mesh together perfectly and kisses the back of Ryan's shoulder before she buries her face into Ryan’s neck.
They lay there for a few minutes, neither of them saying anything, just taking in the feeling of being close to each other. Ryan feels Sophie’s breath on her neck when Sophie finally breaks the silence, “I missed this. I missed having you in my arms like this. We can’t go this long again without being alone and together like this.”
Ryan turns around in Sophie’s arms so they are face to face. She takes in the look of love, adoration, and longing that never seems to leave Sophie’s face anytime she looks at Ryan. She presses a gentle kiss to Sophie’s lips because she can’t actually resist kissing Sophie when she’s this close.
“I totally agree, 1000%. We have to do better but right now we’re together and all I really want to do is take a nap.” Ryan says as she tucks her head under Sophie’s chin, making herself comfortable.
Sophie just kisses the top of Ryan’s head and settles her head on top of hers, and lets Ryan fall asleep. Sophie is tired but not as tired as Ryan; she’s seen how exhausted Ryan has been lately. Sophie knows that they always get better sleep when they sleep together, so she’s glad that she was able to at least nap together. They are supposed to go out tonight, Sophie got them tickets to a paint and sip, but they might not make it out tonight. They can always reschedule for another night because Ryan definitely needs her sleep more than they need a night out. They can still have a date night in the house. Sophie eventually drifts off for a much-needed nap but with an idea for when Ryan wakes up.
Ryan wakes up feeling more rested than she has in a while, she’s still a little tired, but as always, when Ryan sleeps cuddled with Sophie, she was able to get some good sleep. Ryan also notices that Sophie isn’t on the couch with her anymore. How did Sophie manage to get off the couch without waking Ryan up? She must have really been tired to not wake up at the extra motion. Ryan sits up, looking for Sophie since she isn’t on the couch anymore. It’s dark outside now, so it had to be getting close to the time for them to get ready for their paint and sip class.
“Soph? Where are you?” Ryan yells into the void.
“I'm in the kitchen; give me a second I’m coming,” Sophie yells from the kitchen.
Ryan turns around and waits for Sophie to come back to the couch. When Sophie comes back into her view, Sophie is carrying bags and blankets in her arms.
“What’s all that for?” Ryan asks.
Sophie sits the bags down on the coffee table and moves the table before laying the blankets out, making a pallet on the floor.
“I got wings from that vegan wing spot you love and we’re going to sit here on the floor and eat, drink wine, cuddle and watch a movie then we’re going to bed,” Sophie answers as she finishes setting up the blankets and sitting on the couch beside Ryan.
“But we have the paint and sip,” Ryan argues.
“I already talked to the people, and they’re letting us reschedule for next week. You clearly need a night in; I can tell you're still tired. You definitely look better rested than you did when I first got home, but you could definitely use some more sleep.” Ryan looks offended at Sophie’s words.
“So you’re saying I look bad?” Ryan retorts. Sophie can’t help but laugh because, of course, Ryan would take her words out of context.
“That’s not what I said, and you know it, babe.” Sophie jokes.
“Yeah, I know,” Ryan leans in and gives Sophie a kiss. When she pulls back, they both have a dorky smile on their faces. Ryan slides closer to Sophie and rests her head on her shoulder.
“You’re right though; I am still tired and wouldn’t mind a quiet night in with you.”
Sophie gets up and kisses Ryan on the forehead, and heads back into the kitchen. Ryan slides down off the couch and settles onto the blankets that Sophie spread across the floor. When Sophie comes back, she has two wine glasses and a bottle of their favorite Pinot. She sits the glasses on the table and pours them both a glass, and hands one to Ryan while she lights candles around the living room and sets the ambiance for the night. Sophie eventually grabs the food and joins Ryan on the floor.
They make themselves comfortable, and Sophie grabs the remote and opens Hulu so they can watch Brown Sugar. They both love the movie, and really Sophie wanted to watch that one Taye Diggs scene in the restaurant. It’s a classic and makes them both crack up laughing every single time.
While Sophie pulls up the movie, Ryan sets out the food for them. Sophie got Ryan her favorite wings and nonvegan wings for herself. Ryan has been trying to get Sophie to try vegan wings but hasn’t been successful yet.
“So you’re just gonna eat the chicken and not even give the vegan wings a chance?” Ryan jokes. She already knows the answer, but she likes messing with Sophie. Sophie will adamantly declare that vegan wings aren’t actually wings and are just fried vegetables in sauce.
“You say this every time Ryan, just because they bread the vegetables and fry them then dip them in sauce does not make it a wing, and I am not eating it. But you can enjoy them all you want. I will continue to eat actual chicken wings.” Sophie reacted just like Ryan knew she would, and she couldn’t help but laugh.
Sophie finally settles down beside Ryan. They sit close enough that their thighs touch, just wanting to be close to each other while they dig into their respective meals.
They enjoy the movie as they eat, enjoying watching Dre and Sydney’s love story and talking about their shared attraction to Sanaa Lathan. They both had a big crush on her when she was in Love and Basketball.
“How about you try just one wing for me, pleaseeeeeee?” Ryan leans in close to Sophie, holding up a wing to her face.
“Fine, but I want three things in return.” Sophie compromises.
“THREE? That’s a lot for one wing, Soph, but fine, what do you want?”
Sophie turns so she can face Ryan.
“One, gimmie a kiss,” Ryan cheeses and gladly gives Sophie a kiss. They get carried away, Ryan deepening the kiss and almost climbing into Sophie’s lap. “Two, you let me drive the Batmobile, and three, I get to use the Bat-signal once for a booty call. Do you accept my terms?”
“You’ll have to convince Luke to let you drive the Batmobile, that boy is protective as hell over that car, but if you can convince him, then I’ll gladly hand you the keys. As for the Bat-signal, you can absolutely use it for a booty call, more than once if you want to just don’t get too crazy. Deal?” Ryan holds out her hand for Sophie to shake.
Sophie bypasses Ryan’s hand and pulls her in for a kiss. ”Deal sealed with a kiss.” She smirks back at Ryan who looks a little surprised.
Ryan holds up one of her “wings” and Sophie takes it out of her hand. She looks at it hesitantly then looks back at Ryan, who is smiling, just waiting for Sophie’s reaction. Sophie finally takes a bite, and Ryan leans in, waiting anxiously for Sophie’s verdict on the wings.
Sophie hasn’t spit it out, so Ryan takes it as a good sign.
“It isn’t the worst thing I’ve ever had in the world, but if I have the choice between this and actual chicken, I'll pick chicken every day.” Sophie finally gives her review of the wings.
“That’s fair. I’ll take that. Thank you for finally trying one; now I don’t have to keep hassling you.” Ryan kisses Sophie on the cheek, and they cuddle back together and continue finishing their food and watching the movie.
“We’re gonna celebrate what? My divorce!” Ryan falls over onto Sophie as they both laugh hysterically at Taye Diggs in the iconic scene.
Ryan cuddles into Sophie after they finally finish their food and the bottle of wine Sophie brought for them to drink. She’s full, tipsy, watching one of her favorite movies, cuddled up with her favorite person in the world. Ryan would not trade this moment for anything. She’s warm and comfortable and starts drifting off to sleep. The next thing Ryan knows, Sophie is waking her up, and the movie is over; Ryan fell asleep and missed the end of the movie.
“Come on, let’s go to bed.” Sophie urges as she gets off the floor and helps Ryan stand too. Ryan is barely awake, so Sophie wraps her in one of the blankets and ushers her towards the bed. Sophie manages to get Ryan settled into bed and heads back to the living room to clean up, but she hears Ryan whining from the bed when she leaves.
“Soph, come back.” Ryan whines.
“I just need to clean up, and I’ll be back, I promise.” Sophie comes back and kisses Ryan on the cheek before going to clean up.
When she finally finishes cleaning up, Sophie goes back to her bedroom and climbs into bed with Ryan. Ryan immediately cuddles into Sophie. She buries herself as close to Sophie as physically possible. She wraps her arms around Sophie’s waist and presses her face into Sophie’s neck, leaving kisses there before making herself comfortable and drifting off to sleep with Sophie not far behind her.
