Work Text:
“Binnie.” Dongmin’s voice coos softly as he shakes the younger boy awake.
Bin just groans softly.
“Good morning sleepy head. Happy New Year's Eve.”
“Is that why I’m being woken up?” Bin grumbles back.
“The hyungs are ready to start celebrating and they insist everyone be awake before they start. They both tried waking you up but you wouldn’t budge.” Dongmin laughs.
“They aren’t worth waking up for.”
“And I am?”
“Yup. You’re my best friend so I have to tolerate you.”
“Wow, I’m so honored.” Dongmin chuckles, reaching over and fixing some of Bin’s bed head.
“Don’t do that, I’ll fall right back asleep.”
“Aish. Come on up we go sleepyhead, breakfast is already on the table.” Dongmin says, standing up and pulling Bin up with him.
“Fine fine fine. I’m up I’m up. Let me put on a shirt and my glasses at least.”
“A shirt? You never wear a shirt.”
Was it just Bin’s imagination or was Dongmin pouting?
“Yeah. I’m sure the hyung’s will insist on a round of strip poker or something once they’ve had enough to drink, and I’d rather not start behind.”
“Oh. Yeah smart. I’ll leave you to it, hurry up if you want breakfast!” Dongmin reminds him before leaving.
Bin shakes himself awake, before putting on shirt and his glasses, and heading out for breakfast.
~*~
Bin was woken up at eleven in the morning. It was only one in the afternoon now, and the hyungs were already very drunk.
“IS IT TIME FOR STRIP POKER?!” Myungjun screams.
“God can we please at least hold off on that until the night is almost over? I am not drunk enough for that.” Minhyuk groans, downing the rest of the drink in his hand.
“Agreed.” Sanha hums.
“Y’all are such buzzkills.” Jinwoo pouts, draping himself over Myungjun.
“Binnie? Are you okay? You’ve barely drank anything. Usually I’m the only one who stays reasonably sober.” Dongmin asks, coming over to sit next to Bin on the couch.
“Mhm? Oh, yeah! I just uh, thought it would be nice if you had a more sober buddy. One less person you have to take care of.” Bin smiles back.
Dongmin pouts at him. “But you’re so cute when you’re drunk. I really don’t mind taking care of you. So don’t not drink for me. Obviously you don’t have to drink, if you don’t want to though.”
“M-maybe I’ll drink more a bit later.” Bin nods with a small smile.
“Is today the day?” Minhyuk quirks his eyebrow.
“Is today the day for what?” Dongmin questions.
“Bin hyung knows.”
“I do?” Bin asks.
“Oh we’re playing dumb? Okay I understand.” Minhyuk hums, sipping on his new drink.
“What’s he talking about Binnie?”
“I have no idea Min. Sorry.” Bin offers a small smile, when in reality, he wants to kill Minhyuk. How much does he know and how does he know?
“We’ll all know soon enough. Karaoke time?” Minhyuk smiles.
“YES OH MY GOD!” Myungjun screams.
“Great.” Minhyuk smiles, setting it up.
~*~
“Here.” Dongmin comes up to Bin, handing him one of the two drinks in his hand.
“What’s this?”
“I made both of us drinks. Minhyuk and Sanha are now drunk and the sun has set, which inevitably means we will be playing strip poker soon, which neither of us have had enough drinks to enjoy.”
“You’ve got a point there. Thanks Min.” Bin smiles, accepting the drink.
“Whooooooose ready for strip poker!!” Myungjun slurs, suddenly coming out of nowhere.
“Uh oh. Looks like I didn’t prepare soon enough.” Dongmin sighs. “Shall we down our drinks together?”
“That seems to be the best option. Cheers.” Bin laughs.
“Cheers.” Dongmin smiles back, before the two of them down their drinks.
“Hyungs!!!! You two set up the poker.” Minhyuk cheers, setting down his drink. “Anddddd you!! Come with me!” He commands, pointing at Bin.
“Me?” Bin asks in shock, wincing as the alcohol he just downed burns in his throat.
“Yes you! Let’s go!!!” Minhyuk argues, walking off.
“I’ll make us another drink.” Dongmin smiles at him.
“Okay Min.” Bin smiles back, before getting up to go find where Minhyuk went.
“In here!” Minhyuk says, suddenly appearing in the doorway of Bin’s room, grabbing his arm and pulling him.
“Okay okay!” Bin says, following Minhyuk into his room.
Minhyuk closes the door. “Were you… oh my… were you followed?”
“Maybe we should get you some water.”
“After this!!! I have very important top secret business!!!” Minhyuk whisper-yells.
“Okay Hyuk, I was not followed, what’s up?”
“Why aren’t you drinking.” Minhyuk pouts.
“I literally just downed a drink.”
“Yeah but normally you’re drunk with me by now!” Minhyuk pouts more. “However, I have a theory!” He giggles.
“Okay Hyuk, what’s your theory?”
Minhyuk looks around like they’re in a spy movie and he’s looking for the enemy. Once he’s sure the coast is clear, he slowly creeps closer to Bin. “That you’re finally gonna confess to Dongmin hyung by kissing him at midnight!!!” He whispers excitedly.
“W-what?”
“And you’re not drinking as much so you can remember it and do it properly!!!”
“Are you insane?!”
“Am I right? Tell me I’m right. Ohhh I’m right I know it!!!” Minhyuk jumps up and down excitedly.
“Would you- Minhyuk stop jumping!” Bin grabs him. “What makes you think I have feelings for him??”
“Ohh I’m sorry, was I not supposed to know? Was it a secret? If so, you didn’t hide it very well. You’re so obvious. I cant believe hyung hasn’t caught on yet. Do you want me to record it? I can be sneaky about it. All secret ninja style you know.”
“WE‘RE READY TO PLAY LETS GO PEOPLE!” Jinwoo shouts from the other room.
“No! You don’t need to record it! Wait-"
“OH SO YOU ADMIT IT!!”
“Would you shut up?!”
“Sorry sorry secret shhhhhh.” Minhyuk giggles back. “I won’t tell anyone don’t worry!! I’m gonna record it though.”
“Minhyuk-"
“You can’t stop me!” Minhyuk practically sings as he skips out of the room.
“Well. Guess that’s that.” Bin mumbles to himself before forcing himself back out to the others.
~*~
By the time the others become too distracted to continue playing strip poker, Jinwoo, Myungjun, and Minhyuk were all left to just their boxers, Sanha was in a shirt and boxers, Bin was shirtless but managed to keep his pants on, and Dongmin didn’t lose any clothes at all.
“Min.”
“Yes Binnie?”
“How is it that you never lose any clothing when we play strip poker?”
“Well usually I’m the only one with even half a working brain when we play so it’s pretty easy to beat you all. You made me a little nervous this time around, I will admit.”
“It’s not fair. You didn’t even lose your socks.” Bin pouts back.
“Would you like me to be wearing less clothes?” Dongmin questions.
“Huh?! I- uh” Bin panics and his face quickly turns red.
Dongmin only laughs in return. “I’m going to make everyone some ramen. Come give me something nice to look at while I do.” He nods before getting up and walking off to the kitchen.
“Something nice to look at? What on Earth does that mean?”
Apparently Bin contemplates for too long, because soon Dongmin comes back and pulls him up before dragging him to the kitchen. He then places Bin on a stool set near the stove. “Perfect.” He nods, before starting to work on his ramen.
Bin doesn’t think he can blush any harder.
~*~
After getting some food into everyone, they all sit contently around the television watching some New Year’s special they found.
Bin was happily scrolling through his phone until he suddenly became aware of a warm shape pressed up against him.
“Min? Are you okay?”
“Mhm.” Dongmin hums back, cuddling completely into Bin’s side, placing a hand on his abs.
While it wasn’t abnormal for the two of them to cuddle every now and then, Bin had always been fully clothed in the past.
“D-d-do you want me to put my shirt back on?” Bin asks after freezing for a moment.
“Nope. Just relax and let me enjoy it while I’m tipsy enough to do so.”
“Oh… uhhh okay.” Bin nods a bit, trying his best to relax while his heart beats a million times a minute.
Only two more hours until midnight, Bin isn’t sure his heart will last.
~*~
“Hey, wake up, there’s only another half hour until midnight.” Minhyuk says, shaking Sanha awake.
“Did I fall asleep?” Sanha mumbles back.
“Yup. Come on, sit up.”
Sanha groans but he does as he’s told. “Hyungs, are we doing a group hug at midnight again?”
“That’s the plan.” Jinwoo hums back, coming back from the kitchen with another drink for him and Myungjun.
“I’m gonna record it.” Minhyuk smiles, working on finally putting his clothes back on.
“Does that mean we should all put clothes back on?” Myungjun asks, not even phased that Minhyuk wants to record.
“Pants at least.” Minhyuk nods back.
“Two people are being very quiet. Bin and Min what’s up?” Jinwoo asks, turning around.
Dongmin had fallen asleep cuddled into Bin some time ago, and Bin had gotten completely lost in looking at how soft he looked.
“Ehem. Earth to Bin?” Jinwoo asks, getting closer and waving a hand in his face.
Bin jumps a bit and finally joins reality again. “Sorry, what?”
“You good?”
“Yeah! Super good. Very good. Are you good?”
“Is he acting strange or am I very drunk?” Jinwoo asks the others.
“Both.” Minhyuk answers honestly.
“Sorry I was just zoned out. I’m good, really.” Bin smiles back.
Jinwoo just shrugs. “Whatever. Wake up sleeping beauty would you? It’s close to midnight.”
“Yeah sure.” Bin nods a bit.
“Anyone else want another drink?” Minhyuk asks.
“Please.” Sanha hums.
“Min.” Bin whispers, gently brushing some hair out of his face. “Min it’s time to wake up. It’s almost midnight.”
“Mhm? Almost midnight? Really?” Dongmin mumbles back.
“Yeah. About twenty more minutes.” Bin smiles back.
“Oh. Yeah, almost midnight.” Dongmin hums back, cuddling more into Bin. However after a minute or so, he tenses, as he moves his hand against Bin’s bare stomach and realizes he’s shirtless. “Oh my god I am so sorry.”
“No no, it’s okay. Really Min it’s fine I don’t mind I was rather comfortable.” Bin says quickly.
“Oh.” Dongmin mumbles, still sitting up. “Are… are you sure?” He asks quietly.
“I am. So don’t worry about it okay?” Bin smiles.
Dongmin nods a tiny bit. “Okay. Almost midnight you say, how about I make each of us one last drink?” He offers with a smile.
“Sure.” Bin nods back.
“Great. I’ll be right back.”
~*~
By the time 11:55 rolls around, everyone had one last drink in them and were at least mostly dressed.
“Minhyuk said he’s going to record. Maybe we should clean up a bit and be entirely dressed so we can post the video for Aroha.” Jinwoo suggests.
“We don’t have enough time.” Minhyuk hums.
“And I don’t wanna clean.” Myungjun groans.
“Let’s just film one tomorrow night and say we forgot to post it.” Sanha suggests.
“I’m sure I can clean up!” Dongmin nods, getting up immediately to clean.
“Hyung, there's three minutes left. Besides we’ve all had way too much to drink to look presentable enough to post.” Minhyuk groans.
“Oh. That’s true.” Dongmin nods.
“Let’s just go with Sanha’s idea then.” Jinwoo agrees.
Bin, on the other hand, was starting to get really nervous.
“Binnie? You seem tense, are you okay?” Dongmin asks softly.
“Y-yeah. Just thinking about something.” Bin smiles back.
“It’s almost the 60 second countdown. Can’t you think about it later?”
“Well…”
“Yes he can! No thoughts head empty, just do it!” Minhyuk interrupts.
“Just enjoy the bringing in of the new year, okay?” Dongmin smiles. “45 seconds to go.” He says, pulling Bin up.
“I’ll do my best.” Bin smiles.
“30 seconds, everyone get up!” Jinwoo hums, pulling Myungjun up.
“Exciting!” Myungjun giggles, letting himself be pulled up.
“I’m excited for this year to be over.” Sanha hums, getting up as well.
“And I’m excited for change to come.” Minhyuk smiles, hitting record on his camera and coming back to join the group.
“And in ten!”
Bin isn’t really sure who starts the countdown as his nerves sky rocket. He tries his best to chant along with the others as they count down to the new year, but his nerves are really getting the better of him. He shakes out his hands, looking at Minhyuk as the countdown reaches five.
‘You got this.’ Minhyuk mouths giving him a thumbs up.
“Three, two, one, happy new year!”
It’s like everything is moving in slow motion for Bin. The rest of the group starts to move into the hug, but Bin finally finds his confidence. He gently grabs Dongmin’s hips, turning him around, before pulling him close and kissing him.
Dongmin was slightly taken back, but quickly adjusts, wrapping his arms around Bin’s neck, kissing him back.
Bin is so lost in the feeling of Dongmin actually kissing him back that he doesn’t even notice the shocked gasps coming out of three of the others and the happy claps coming from Minhyuk.
Eventually, though he doesn’t want to stop, Bin pulls away and smiles. “I know it’s cliché, but new year, new me, right? And this new me is sick of trying to pretend that I only like you as a friend and nothing more. I like you a lot more than that. And if it’s okay with you, I would really like to explore those feelings a little more with you.”
Dongmin almost seemed overjoyed. “Are you asking me on a date or to be your boyfriend?” He chuckles.
“I- well… uhm.” Bin gets nervous as he flushes a bright red and scratches at his neck.
Dongmin just chuckles again, grabbing his hands away from his neck. “You are incredibly fun to tease.” He laughs, putting Bin’s arms around his own waist. “If I were you, I’d ask me to be your boyfriend.” He whispers to Bin.
If possible Bin turns even more red, but his smile doubles in size. “Boyfriend. Lee Dongmin, will you be my boyfriend?”
Dongmin pulls him into a short but smiley kiss. “I would love to be your boyfriend Binnie. I was really starting to think you would never ask.”
“What do you mean by that?”
“Well, I’ve had a massive crush on you for… about two years I think? And I was pretty sure you liked me too, but I can only flirt when I’ve had alcohol, so I knew any attempt I made at asking you out would be a disaster. So I left it in your hands.” Dongmin laughs.
“Are you telling me that if I had just gotten myself together two years ago we would have already been dating?” Bin asks in shock.
“Perhaps.”
“No matter. You’re mine now. Finally.” Bin smiles back.
“Am I really drunk and imagining the two lovebirds finally confessing or is it actually happening?” Jinwoo asks suddenly.
“No no, I see it too.” Myungjun hums.
“It’s about fucking time.” Minhyuk cheers after stopping the recording. “Anyway I’m about to fall over so I’m going to bed.”
“Can I just sleep here.” Sanha groans, half asleep on the couch.
“Wait, I’ll help everyone to bed. Give me just a second.” Dongmin tells everyone before turning back to Bin. “Stay with me tonight?”
Bin just nods with a small smile.
“If you want to go get ready for bed, I’ll get everyone else settled and be in soon okay?” Dongmin smiles back.
“Are you sure you don’t need help?”
“No, I won’t be long.”
“Okay then.” Bin agrees, going to start get ready for bed.
In the meantime, Dongmin helps everyone else to bed, ensuring they all have buckets in case they get sick and water and hangover medicine to wake up to. He then quickly cleans up their living room before going to find Bin.
“Binnie?” He asks when he sees he wasn’t in his room.
“Here. Sorry, I was just grabbing a phone charger from my room.” Bin smiles, coming into Dongmin’s room seconds after him.
“It’s okay. Do you need help grabbing anything else?”
“I can take care of myself. Get ready for bed Min.” Bin smiles back, working on setting up the bed for the two of them.
Dongmin just nods and hurries to go clean up for bed.
Soon the two lay comfortably in bed together.
“Binnie?” Dongmin hums out.
“Yes Min?” Bin replies softly, rubbing small circles on his back.
“Thank you for making the start of the new year so amazing. I can't wait to tackle whatever this year throws at us with you by my side as not only my friend, but my boyfriend.”
“I can’t wait to see where this new year takes us, Min. I have a feeling that this year will be one to remember.” Bin smiles back, pulling Dongmin close.
“Me too Binnie. Me too.”
