The air was cold in the Boiling Isles. A sudden rush of cold winds sweeps through and despite the living home's best efforts that cold still found its way to the house. Amity didn’t mind thought, getting to spend time in The Owl House was always fun. It had become like a second home to her. Often, she’d rather stay there than her own exceptionally large mansion. Blight Manor had large rooms, servants, luxuries but it didn’t have the thing that was most important to Amity. As if she could sense Amity thinking of her, Luz comes into the room with a nicely sized blanket in hand and plops it on the small bed.
“I figured we could use this to stay warm.” With an audible “woosh", Luz drapes the blanket over herself and Amity, enveloping them both. Her girlfriend's face turns beat red as Luz snuggles up to her, making a cocoon out of the blanket. The two girls' faces were so close that Amity became lost in Luz’s bright hazel eyes. Amity thought back to when she first saw Luz when the girl was pretending to be an abomination. How angry she was. Or the convention when she almost made Luz swear to never practice magic. Those days have long since passed and she wonders if Luz even remembers the mean things Amity said to her back then. But Amity can’t forget. In times like these when the two are together she often thinks back to those times. Wondering if she’s truly done enough to earn the love Luz gives her daily. Of course, she never says anything to Luz. How could she? “Hey Luz, do you by chance secretly hate me deep down?” Amity scoffs. She could never say something like that. She’d look silly.
“What?” Luz’s face perks up, puzzled. “Amity, why would I hate you?”
In a flash it hits Amity. Lost in her haze of thought she realizes she DID say that last part out loud.
‘What? Amity, who’s that? Haha. I was just thinking of a line from an Azura book. Yup total slip of the tongue. Wow is that my mother calling me from across town. WELP, I better get going!” In her rush of panicked word vomit, Amity begins trying to free herself from the blanket cocoon Luz wrapped them in but just as she feels herself making hurried progress, she feels Luz’s hand take hold of her arm.
“Amity.” Luz’s tone is strong and serious but soft. It’s not very often that Luz gets like this but when she does Amity knows it means she’s worried.
“I was just remembering how we met. How I treated you at first. Sometimes I feel like I didn’t earn this. Like I didn't earn you. What if we rushed into this?” Amity’s head was swimming with so many negative thoughts her head was spinning. Luz could practically see the gears moving, the self-depreciation bubbling and spilling over. Luz took her hand and caressed Amity’s cheek softly.
“Amity, look at me.” The purple haired girl's eyes moved from their spot on the ground and found themselves looking back into the light of Luz’s eyes.
“None of that matters now. So, what if we got off on a rocky start? I challenged you to a witches' duel remember. A DUEL! And rushed? The only thing rushing is me rushing into your arms every day. We’ve both seen each other at our worst and at our best. You’ve grown Amity Blight. You don’t give yourself enough credit, but I see you trying to be better every day and that’s why I love you.”
The sentiment is punctuated with Luz bopping her nose with Amity’s, causing the witch to turn bright red once again.
“Thank you, Luz. I love you too.” Amity snuggles up close to her awesome girlfriend. The two lay in a cozy silence until Amity can hear Luz drift into sleep. She’s glad she could talk it out with her, even if it started by accident. Amity knows this won’t be the last time. She’s hard on herself. It’s the way she is even if she’s aware it’s harmful. But she’ll try every day to be better. To let herself relax, loosen up and talk about what she’s feeling. As long as she has her Luz by her side. Amity knows there's nothing she can’t do.
