Summary:

Kannonzaka's coworkers can't help but notice how much his roommate cares about him.

This is actually some silly little fic that I wrote to cheer myself up. I thought that maybe somebody else will also enjoy this, so I ended up posting it ;;;;

This fics contains spoilers from the latest Matenrou's drama track. And for those who don't know, Ogura and Mitsuya are Doppo's coworkers (I can't believe I made a character tag for them ( ꒪⌓꒪)) Honobono isn't mentioned, but it's mentioned the fact that Hifumi didn't have a good time that day (´；ω；｀) So please read at your own discretion!

Work Text:

Doppo Kannonzaka may be a little anxious and pessimistic, but he's a nice and polite guy, just maybe a little shy, and he really knows how to get the job done. When it comes to meetings and sales, he always puts his nerves aside and does an excellent job.

He's been working at E. L. Medical for longer than Ogura, but he doesn't stand out that much and is quite reserved, so he doesn't know much about him. That's why it comes as a surprise when Kannonzaka brings his own lunch to work.

"I didn't know you knew how to cook, Kannonzaka!" Ogura comments, taking a good look at his bento. "I only know how to cook basic stuff."

Kannonzaka's bento is extremely cute. It has star shaped carrots and the rice is shaped like a bear.

His lips curl into a grin. He didn't know he had a cute side. Although it's a shame that he won't be joining him to go to the convenience store. 

"Ah. No, that's not— " he says, looking quite flustered. "My roommate made it for me."

"You have a roommate, Kannonzaka?!" Mitsuya says, joining their conversation. "Ah, it must be nice to split up rent~" 

"You didn't have to bring money up …"

"My rent keeps going up, it's not like I can't help it," he replies with a sheepish smile. "But the place is really peaceful and it's not far from here, so I doubt that I'll move out from there."

"Yeah, It's kinda hard to find a peaceful place nowadays…"

As Kannonzaka and Mitsuya chit-chat, Ogura notices something that makes him smile. 

His bento came with a note from his roommate, telling him to enjoy his meal and to not overwork himself. 

 

 

"Sorry, I really have to reply to this." 

"Who is it?" Mitsuya asks. 

"My roommate…" Kannonzaka answers as he fumbles with his phone. "He worries when I have to stay working overtime." 

"Aww, that's so sweet of him!" Mitsuya cooes. "If I were him, I'd be fast asleep."

"The same goes for me," Ogura groans, joining their conversation. "I just want to collapse on my bed once we're done… I don't even feel like having dinner." 

"Really? I get all cranky if I'm hungry, so it's impossible for me to fall asleep if I hadn't eaten," Mitsuya replies, sounding a little astounded. Then he perks up. "Say, Kannonzaka, does your roommate also make dinner for you?"

"Ah, yeah," Kannonzaka replies, looking up from his phone. "I've told him many times that it's not necessary, but he still does it."

"Well, it is easier to cook for more than one person," Ogura says with a soft smile. 

Even if it weren't easier, he has the feeling that Kannonzaka's roommate would still cook for him. He really seems to care about him.

"It must be nice to have a warm meal waiting for you after work. I'm almost jealous, Kannonzaka." Mitsuya says, letting out a sigh. "Your roommate really sounds like an angel."

"He can really be a handful sometimes," Kannonzaka replies. Despite his words, he has a fond smile on his face. "But he's a really nice person."

Almost on cue, Kannonzaka's phone starts to vibrate.

"Ah, he's calling me," he says as he stands up. "Sorry, I'll be back in a second." 

 

 

"You know, I think that Kannonzaka's roommate is in love with him," Mitsuya says excitedly as they walk towards the convenience store for lunch. "Or at least, he has a crush on him." 

"What makes you think that?"

"You've noticed that Kannonzaka's lunch always comes with a little note, right?" Mitsuya asks with a grin, to which Ogura nods. "Well, the other day, when I asked him if he wanted something from the convenience store too, and I noticed that his lunch note was signed off with xoxo~ " 

" xoxo ? What does that mean?" Ogura asks, confused by his coworker's enthusiasm. "Is that his roommate's nickname? His name? Wait, is he foreign?"

"What? No!" Mitsuya looks at him disappointed. "It means hugs and kisses! Like, the x represents a kiss and the o a hug."

"Really? Like a secret code?" Ogura had never heard of something like that, but Mitsuya isn't the type to lie, and he wouldn't be this excited over nothing. "Wait, how do you know that?"

"It doesn't matter!" he replies simply. "Romance is fun, even if you're just a bystander! Do you think that Kannonzaka likes him back?"

Ogura actually gives Mitsuya's question a long thought. “Hmm… Considering how negative Kannonzaka can be, I guess that he brushes it off as an off-hand comment…”

"You think so? Every time Kannonzaka has to stay extra hours, the guy gives him a call." Mitsuya points out. "He always makes sure to make his lunch super cute and it even comes with a note… I wouldn't do things like that to someone that I'm not interested in. Kannonzaka must be blind if he hasn't noticed those things.”

"… You're right. The guy must really love him."

 

 

Yesterday was an extremely crazy day at the office. Kannonzaka had suddenly gotten fired for a misunderstanding, but he was determined to clear his name and asked Ogura and Mitsuya for help to review all the things he had lost access to.

Of course they helped him. They know that Kannonzaka would never mess up his job like that.

Kannonzaka ended up getting his job back, which was awesome. However, the highlight of the day was seeing him stand up for himself and call Baldy out of his bullshit. That really has been a joy to watch. Mitsuya regretted not having recorded the whole moment. 

The day would have ended on a good note, if Kannonzaka hadn't stormed out after getting a call and then… Just what in the world could make him run like that?  

As soon as Kannonzaka arrives at the office, Ogura and Mitsuya surround him. 

"What happened yesterday, Kannonzaka?" Ogura asks, not even saying good morning first. "You had us worried all night!"

"Yeah, what happened? You stormed out like a madman!" Mitsuya also asks. "I was kinda impressed to be honest. I never thought that you could run that fast!" 

"That's…" Kannonzaka's expression drops immediately at the question, "Sorry, but Hifumi was in troub— " Then he stops talking, looking absolutely mortified as he looks at his surroundings. Probably hoping that nobody else heard what he just said. 

"Hifumi? Like MC GIGOLO?" Mitsuya asks, trying to be helpful. However, judging by Doppo’s expression, Ogura can tell that he's only making him more anxious. "What happened to h— " 

Kannonzaka immediately covers Mitsuya's mouth with his hand. "Please, let's not talk about this here."

The situation would be extremely funny, if Kannonzaka didn't look so scared.

He looks even more terrified than when he got fired… 

"Then, what if we go for drinks after work?" Ogura suggests, trying to lighten the mood. "I doubt that Baldy will make you work extra hours after what happened yesterday. How does that sound?"

"I'll have to ask my roommate first…" Kannonzaka replies, which earns him a questioning look from both of them.

"Sorry, I'll explain everything later," he says, letting out a heavy sigh. 

 

 

In the end, Kannonzaka ends up agreeing to go for drinks. But he said that he had to buy some cream puffs first, which only leaves them with more questions than answers.

They never thought that Kannonzaka could be so enigmatic.

"You never seemed like the type to like sweet stuff, Kannonzaka," Mitsuya says offhandedly, breaking the awkward silence as they walk towards an izakaya.

"These are actually for my roommate," he replies, raising the little the bag that he's carrying, still looking a little somber.

"Did you guys fight and this is an apology gift?"

"That's… not it." Kannonzaka lets out a big sigh as he stops in his tracks. "Yesterday he had an awful night. And since he's been into cream puffs lately, I thought that I could bring him some to cheer him up… I almost took today off, but he said that he'd be fine on his own."

An awful night? 

Ogura's eyes widen as he realizes the identity of Kannonzaka's roommate.

His coworker really is full of surprises, huh?

"Wasn't the one who had an awful night Hi— Oh…" Mitsuya stops talking as he puts two and two together. "Ooh!" 

His face completely lights up at the realisation that Shinjuku's number one host is Kannonzaka's roomate. Hifumi Izanami is the one who makes him cute lunches with even cuter notes and always worries about him when he stays overtime.

Ogura would like to share his happiness, but there's still something that is bugging him...

"I have to ask, why the whole secrecy about his identity?" he asks after a while. "I mean, he’s even come to the office a couple of times, hasn't he?" 

"People tend to get very infatuated with him… He has had pretty serious issues with stalkers. One of them even broke into our apartment." Kannonzaka explains with a gloomy expression, as both of his coworkers' faces drop with horror. What could they possibly reply to something like that? "It's not that I don't trust you guys. I'm just being extra careful. You never know who could be listening…" 

"I'm so sorry to hear that…" 

"Gee, when I think of hosts, I always imagine handsome, rich guys," Mistuya muses, looking apologetic. "I never thought that it could be that tough…" 

"Being a host is harder than it seems," Kannonzaka says softly, with a far-off look on his face, eyes full of fondness. For a moment, Ogura feels like he's interrupting something kinda intimate. "I really don't know how he does it, but he’s amazing like that…"

"You really love him, don't you?"

"Huh?" 

Ogura feels his blood freeze as he realises that he said that out loud.

"My bad!" he apologizes immediately, bowing slightly. He didn't mean to blurt out something like that. "I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to overstep— " 

"Yeah, you love him, right?!" Mitsuya interrupts him, looking way too excited. "Because he totally likes you back. I'm sure of that! You should go for it, Kannonzaka!" 

"W-What’s with you guys?” Kannonzaka stutters, blushing profusely. He lets out a big sigh before replying. “But, yeah… I do love him." Then he waves his hand, signing them to come closer. "I’m telling you all of this because I trust you guys, so make sure to keep this a secret.”

Both Ogura and Mitsuya nod quickly.

“We're actually dating."

"Huh?!" 

 

 

Once they arrive, they end up asking for a private room. There's no way that they could let Kannonzaka's love life slide, and it should be safer to talk about it this way.

"Y'know, Kannonzaka, I always thought that you loved him, but I never imagined that you guys were already a couple," Mitsuya says with a big grin, raising his glass of beer. "For Kannonzaka's not-so-budding love!"

"C'mon, you guys really wanna make a toast for that?" Kannonzaka says, looking extremely flustered, but raises his glass as well.

"Why not?" Ogura asks with genuine surprise. "He makes you happy, doesn't he? Besides, we always thought that you guys were pining for each other. It's nice to know that's not the case." 

And so, they make a toast. 

"… Thank you…" Kannonzaka says with a small smile and takes a small sip." I'm not crazy about beer, but I gotta say that this is nice."

"Hmm… I guess that you'd prefer to be drinking champagne, served by a certain someone , right?~" Mitsuya teases and Kannonzaka almost chokes on his beer. 

"… He actually has today off." he mumbles, looking aside with embarrassment. 

"So you do want to see him!" Ogura chirps, wanting to tease him too. 

Fortunately, Kannonzaka isn't drinking this time, but even his ears get red at that comment, causing Mitsuya and Ogura to burst into laughter. 

"You guys are terrible…" 

They both laugh louder at that.

 

 

Given how tired Kannonzaka is and how almost always they end up working extra hours, they've never had an opportunity to go for drinks after work, or to do anything after work for that matter.

Ogura always thought that if they went to an izakaya, Kannonzaka would complain about his boss the whole time. After all, he seems to be the type to keep a lot of things to himself. However, to his surprise, his coworker turns out to be the type of person who gets all talkative and happy when drunk. 

And it's even more surprising to see him talking all lovey-dovey about his boyfriend. 

Mitsuya, on his part, is having the time of his life watching him like that. Ogura hasn't heard him laugh that loudly in a while. 

It's a nice evening. 

"He's always giving me cute nicknames, when he's the cute one… Should I call him honey-bunny ? Do you think that he would like it? What about baby ?" Kannonzaka mumbles excitedly. Then, he looks downward, knitting his brow. "Why isn't he in my arms? I want to kiss him all over and — " 

"Okay, that's enough! Stop!" Mitsuya interrupts him, covering Kannonzaka's mouth with his hand. "I don't wanna know about your sex life!" 

"I w-wasn't going to talk about that!" 

"So, Kannonzaka, what do you love about him?" Ogura asks, trying to change the topic.

"Oh, that's a good question!" 

Kannonzaka looks deep in thought. Since he's been all overexcited, he guessed that he would answer immediately, but it seems like he's really pondering what he will say. 

Ogura and Mitsuya can only look at him expectantly. 

"He's the strongest person I've ever known… He never allows himself to be held down by all the things that have happened to him and always moves forward," he starts saying with a small smile. "But not only that, I really like his childishness too. He always sees the bright side of everything and gets excited even over the smallest things… He can be a little infuriating at times, but he's so precious to me. Just being around him makes me happy… He has the most beautiful eyes I've ever seen, and his smile… Did you guys know that he likes to sing while he's cooking?" Then, he lets out a longing sigh. "Honestly, what's not to love about him?" 

"Damn, Kannonzaka. I wish that someone would say such pretty things about me too," Mitsuya says, taking a big gulp of his beer. "You better invite us to the wedding!" 

"Yeah, you better invite us!" Ogura says too. "So, how did you guys meet?" 

 

 

Their little drinking party didn't leave Kannonzaka trashed, but he's definitely walking wobbly and has trouble standing straight. Both Ogura and Mitsuya felt a little sorry for his state, so they decided to accompany him to his home to make sure that he arrives without complications. 

"Sorry for keeping you away from your honey-bunny, Kannonzaka." Mitsuya puts Kannonzaka's arm over his shoulder and grabs his side, helping him to walk. Ogura can't help but shoot him an inquisitive look. "What? It's not like I can say his name."

"Don't worry. He must have spent his day at the gym or the spa," he mumbles as he leans part of his weight on Mitsuya. "I hope he had a nice time."

"But he must be at home by now, right?" 

"Yeah." 

 

 

According to Kannonzaka this is where he lives, and his boyfriend should be home, so Ogura rings the doorbell to make sure that this is his apartment. 

In a few seconds, he can hear footsteps coming to the entrance. 

"Welcome home, Doppochin! Did you haー" the blond interrupts himself, upon seeing that he isn't Doppochin. Kannonzaka just told them that his boyfriend gives him cute nicknames, but hearing it directly from Hifumi's mouth is a whole new story. Ogura has to say that he finds it endearing. "Sorry-sorry, how may I help you?" 

He has only seen MC GIGOLO on TV and he has always looked regal and charming. However, seeing him in real life is a completely different experience, and he has to say that the screen doesn't do him enough justice. Even when he's in a more domestic fashion—wearing a hoodie, sweatpants and an apron—he looks absolutely dazzling. Ogura can almost see sparkles surrounding him. No wonder why he's Shinjuku's number one host. 

"Are you Kannonzaka's honey bunny?"
