"Catch me if you can!" I yelled to my boyfriend Wally West, taking off at a full sprint.
"What do I get if I catch you?" He yelled after me.
I looked over my shoulder and gave him a sultry look before racing down the street. Almost instantly I felt arms wrap around my waist and lift me off the ground, squealing in mock surprise I pretend to try and get free, but I was exactly where I wanted to be.
"Wally put me down!" I laughed.
"Nope, I like you right where you are." He said, his breath tickling my ear.
I shuddered with the implications, turning in his arms I faced him, lifting my neck up I placed a chaste kiss on his lips, pulling away after a moment.
He smiled, "what was that for?"
"Your reward for catching me."
"Well if that's the case maybe I should catch you more often." He said leaning in to kiss me again, but this time I didn't pull away.
...
"Movie night?" M'gann asked everyone.
"I'm in," Artemis called from the couch where she was sitting sharpening her arrows.
"Sounds fun." Zatanna mused.
"What're we watching?" Superboy asked.
"I'm feeling action" Wally replied.
"What about a rom-com?" Batgirl suggested.
"I think we should watch a documentary," Megan suggested, everyone groaned.
"No way, I'm with Wally, action is where it's at."
"I would have to agree with Wally and Robin, action sounds like a good idea," Kaldurh said, walking into the room.
Megan sighed, "action it is."
So that was how we ended up on the couch all comfortable and warm, eating popcorn and watching some action movie. Megan and Conner were curled up in the big chair, Artemis and Zatanna on the small couch, I was sandwiched between Wally and Batgirl on the sectional. I was comfortable, I was happy, surrounded by my best friends and my adorable boyfriend.
I was too comfortable.
At some point during the movie I had ended up snuggling into Wally's side, he hadn't said anything because it wasn't that weird for us but when the movie ended and I announced I was leaving I made my mistake.
In my sleepy haze I forgot where I was, I forgot who I was.
I leaned over and gave Wally a lingering kiss on the lips and went to go calling, "Love ya, babe." Over my shoulder.
It wasn't until I heard Artemis' sharp intake of breath that I realized my mistake. Freezing in place I slowly unthawed and turned to look at him. He hadn't moved, I don't even think he blinked, he just held a finger to his mouth where mine had just been and stared at me like he didn't even know who I was.
Conner broke the silence,
"What the fuck was that?"
I couldn't respond, I just looked at Wally, my eyes pleading with him to understand, to not hate me.
"Robin?" M'gann said softly.
I didn't look at her, my mind frantically searching for a way out of this.
A hand touched my shoulder,
"Told ya it was a bad idea," Barbara said to me.
"Not the time Babs." I ground out.
"Isn't it?" She questioned.
I shot her the patented bat glare.
"Oh don't give me that look, Rikki, you are not nearly as good at it as he is."
"What did she just call you?" Wally choked out.
"I am so sorry, I should have told you, years ago actually, but it just never seemed like the right time, and I thought you wouldn't want to be my friend anymore. So imagine how I felt when I ran into you in Central city and had no idea who I was, it was like I had a second chance, a chance to be myself, and a chance to do all the things I couldn't do as Robin, " I took a deep breath and steeled myself before saying, "like love you."
He was silent for a moment, a look of utter shock on his face before he said,
"But you can't be, you're not..." He trailed off.
"But I am."
I sighed and took off my mask first, then my wig, the chest bindings would have to stay for now.
I'm not sure anyone was breathing except maybe Barbara, who was giving me an empathetic and encouraging look.
"I'm so sorry Wally."
I turned to leave but he was off the couch and in front of me before I could blink.
His hands cupped my face and stared into my eyes before he leaned in and kissed me.
"Caught you."
