“Do they even need friends?” Ao’nung asks, curiously. Tuk can already envision Ao’nung’s parenting. That poor baby. At least, they would have her.
“Are you even asking me that right now?” Neteyam replies, the stress in his voice palpable.
“It’s going to be ok,” Ao’nung reassures. He takes hold of Neteyam’s hands and squeezes them. “They can be friends with the ilu,” he then says with absolute sincerity.
“The ilu?!”

Summary
At sixteen, Neteyam has completed his iknimaya and is considered an adult. He's a warrior, finally allowed on the battlefield. They're perfectly on the path for them to win once again, something Neteyam is excited to be there for. Until, he's outcasted by his own father.
Neteyam's forced pick up what is left of his life and leave. Never allowed to step foot into his home again, he now has to navigate through learning to live anew, past relationships, and, the hardest, mourning.

"That is definitely something I want to know about!" Aonung interjected. Blurting again.
Neteyam looked at Aonung in befuddlement.
Aonung wondered how he should get out of the mess he had put himself in.
"Why would you want to know that?" Neteyam questioned, tucking a braid behind his ear and his gaze momentarily shifting to the sand beneath them.
Bashful.
The 15-year-old omatikayan never failed to make Aonung want to reach and touch whenever the said omatikayan acted like this.
'Because the only one that's supposed to be asking you to be their mate is me, duh!'
"Because I'm a very great judge of character," was what Aonung ended up saying instead.
Neteyam looked.
or Aonung wants to make Neteyam his mate, and his only obstacle is the omatikayan's oblivious younger brother.

Ao’nung has a stalker.
Over the past few weeks Ao’nung would notice Neteyam’s ikran close by. Perching on the closest root where Ao’nung was weaving new baskets, or flying over the water where Ao’nung was hunting for fish with his friends.
Her eyes were always staring into his soul and Ao’nung was sure she had built a grudge against him back on that cliff that day.
After Neteyam shows Ao'nung what scenting is, his ikran suddenly takes a liking to him.
