"Genetics: The Story of It" follows them from those small beginnings to becoming something too big to hold. They grew up in biology’s house, gathered twelve chaotic kids, and eventually had to move out on their own. The story is about what happens after you leave home: the mess, the freedom, the fear, and realizing your children have their own ideas about everything.
It’s a character study of a scientific field as a person: how knowledge evolves, how revolutions start small, and what independence actually costs. Also, there’s a lot of arguing about server racks and who gets the room with good ventilation.
The fic explores their daily lives, because independence is made of small moments. Genetics trying to establish a morning routine while CRISPR has already been awake for six hours "optimizing" the coffee maker.
Genetics thought independence meant freedom. Instead it means responsibility, doubt, and doing it anyway.
This is their life now. Chaotic, theirs, and just beginning.
